Why Some Spurs Fans Think They're Winners - But Actually Have a Loser’s Mentality
Good morning, folks from THBN, the Spurs blog that brings you angles amid a sea of aggregators and regurgitation sites.
Recent Lilywhite articles have included:

Today we are tapping into something incredibly real...
The difference between what people think is a winning mentality...
And what it actually is.
The psychological divide between ...
Toxic supporters...
And genuine believers is massive...
And misunderstood by most.
So here is a short punch piece that doesn't sugar coat the issue...
And makes it perfectly plain to...
The social media experts...
And the protesters...
The error of their ways.

You don't know what you're doing rather showed the Spurs fans they don't! |
"You don't know what you're doing."
– Spurs fans, to Ange Postecoglou, seconds before the sub scored a screamer.
(Sub was Pape Matar Sarr, disallowed for a foul that took VAR 5 whole minutes to decide, but that’s not the point. The psychology is.)
💣 SECTION 1: You Think You’re Being Tough… But You’re Just Being Reactive
You chant.
You boo.
You abuse the manager online all week.
You march in protest, rage in Twitter spaces, and rip the team apart for “standards.”
But here’s the truth:
You don’t have high standards. You just have low tolerance.
That’s not a winning mentality.
That’s a toddler tantrum disguised as passion.
🧠 Core Traits
-
Low Emotional Regulation
They lash out fast - boos, chants, insults - because they feel something and act on it immediately. It’s reactive, not reflective. -
Control Issues
They can’t control the team, the manager, the result… so they try to control the narrative.
Abuse on X or other social media, calling for sackings, starting protest marches - it’s all about regaining a sense of power. -
Addiction to Outrage
Outrage feels like action. It gives a dopamine spike. So they do it again.
And again.
And again.
This becomes habitual, not purposeful. -
Black-and-White Thinking
There’s no room for process, evolution, or nuance.
You win = you're good.
You lose = you’re trash.
This is a fixed mindset (losing mindset) masquerading as a winning one. -
Status Signaling
Many of these fans want to look smart, look tough, or look more passionate than others.
But the need to be seen as right can eclipse the actual goal of helping the team. -
Lack of Resilience Training
They can’t handle “long builds.”
They quit on vision when results dip.
That’s not how winners operate.
That’s how children behave when they don't get their way.
🎯 SECTION 2: What Winners Do vs What You Do
Real winners believe through setbacks.
They stay composed in chaos.
They see value in process...
Not just scorelines.
Let’s compare.
Trait | Real Winners | Toxic Fans |
---|---|---|
Adversity | Lean in, stay calm | Lash out, demand change |
Results | Judge over time | Flip instantly |
Sub decisions | Say “let’s see if it works” | Chant insults before the ball is kicked |
Accountability | Ask smart questions | Abuse online then call it “banter” |
Vision | Stick with it | Jump ship at the first wave |
🧠 SECTION 3: The Psychological Truth
Toxic fans crave one thing above all:
Control.
They can't control the result...
They can't control the tactics...
So they try to control the narrative.
"Postecoglou's not good enough."
"Levy's a coward."
"Johnson is useless."
It makes them feel powerful again.
But it’s all fear.
Because deep down, they’re terrified to trust.
They don’t believe that joy is real.
So they sabotage it - every time it arrives.
🪞 SECTION 4: Your Inner Scoreboard
You think being the loudest critic proves you care most?
Wrong.
It proves you’ve never understood winning.
Winners go again.
Thomas Edison tried 10,000 times to invent the light bulb.
He's a failure to the toxic element.
Winners lose without losing themselves.
Winners back the guy doing things differently...
Even when it’s not perfect.
I remember skippering a 13 year old opening batsmen...
Playing men's cricket.
He wasn't strong enough to hit the ball hard and score runs...
But...
I saw something.
I had a chat with him.
Told him he had proved to himself that he could face these men...
Bowling full pace at him.
I told him to forget the runs...
They will come as you get older and stronger.
You just keep playing the shots.
It doesn't matter how many you score...
You are opening the batting for me every week.
He became our 1st XI captain...
And a Kent 2nd XI player.
Also in my time, by the way...
Was Chris Smalling...
The former Manchester United centre-half...
Now playing in Italy.
Winners aren’t flawless.
They’re just mentally strong enough to play the long game.
⚔️ SECTION 5: Spurs Fans… You’re Not the Best in London
The idea that Spurs fans are “the best in London” is one of the biggest lies on X by SpursWeb...
Who spend all week posting negative content.
Fans abuse the manager during a game...
Repeatedly.
You cheer for the opposition.
You boo substitutions...
Great for the player coming on!
You sabotage belief.
You turn on your own like it’s a blood sport.
You are not the best fans in London.
You are the most traumatised.
And instead of healing… you’ve weaponised it.
🔁 SECTION 6: But You Could Be…
The irony?
If Spurs fans dropped the performance of pretending to be winners…
And actually acted like winners…
You’d become part of something special.
Because Ange is a winner.
His career proves that.
His narrative proves that...
But most of it goes over the heads of fans and reporters.
He just doesn’t need to shout about it.
He builds it.
The question is: Can you?
A winning mentality doesn’t chant “You don’t know what you’re doing.”
It whispers:“I trust you to figure it out.”
