The THBN Wrap-Up

At some stage I'll probably do a comparison of this season but both have been much maligned by our fanbase, yet confidence is the key to both of them.

Fans on social media negatively affected the performance of Brennan Johnson and it was only when he cut these negative people out of his life, did he find confidence on goal, going on a streak of 6 goals in 6 games.

Timo Werner we knew was low on confidence in front of goal but has always been an attacking danger with his ability to beat his man on the outside,

His goal against Manchester City could be a turning point because although his following effort was weak, he actively took the responsibility on. In the second half his too efforts were with far greater confidence, trying a difficult finish into the top corner that missed by just a foot.

This has been a useful exercise because there is a player inside Timo Werner and he is a World Cup winner so unlocking his goalscoring potential, as has happened with Johnson,  would make us a more dangerous squad.

  • Brennan Johnson shows a significant improvement in goal-scoring efficiency in the early stages of the 2024/25 season, more than doubling his goals per game ratio. However, his assist rate has dropped considerably.
  • Timo Werner demonstrates modest improvements in both goal-scoring and assist rates, with a more notable increase in his ability to set up goals for teammates.
Johnson appears to be the more clinical finisher at the moment, while Werner contributes more to overall attacking play and chance creation.
