Lilywhite News featuring classic Western Rio Bravo

Lilywhite News

Good afternoon. The Tottenham train is preparing to load with passengers and continue its journey through the Wild West of the Premier League.

The Doc is treating the wounded caught in gunfire but Sheriff Postecoglou is keeping law and order in town.

The town council are panning for gold to give a bright future and our recent exploits on this front have been very encouraging, Van der Ven, Maddison, the revival of forgotten gunslingers, just like Dean Martin in the classic 1959 Western Rio Bravo.

John Wayne (Sheriff), Dude, a recovering drunk (Dean Martin), the young gunslinger Colorado Ryan (Ricky Nelson) and Stumpy (Walter Brennan) defending the jailhouse is all rather like the Spurs defence at the moment, with Ben Davies now also out injured.

Let's see who the cavalry coming over the hill are, potentially.

Timo Werner

I'm excited to see Ange Postecoglou reignite a talent who was expected to be the next big German international striker.

He hasn't hit the heights expected but that isn't to say we can't improve him and with all the chances we create, his finishing could be important for us...and at a value price.

This is the sort of signing I have been hoping we would make for years, a high-quality player not at the top of his game and thus a vastly reduced price.

They just need revival and a sports psychologist can go a long way to achieving that.

There have, as usual, been some interesting reads lately, the Resurgence of Spurs, our relationship with Base, a Wild West-themed post and a Train-themed post.

Check them out below:

Radu Drăgușin

Tottenham are progressing with a deal for Radu Drăgușin who now looks unlikely to join Napoli because of his image rights.

It has shades of Paulo Dybala all over again, the Juventus player we tried to sign a few years back and who said Spurs did everything they could but a legal dispute over his image rights prevented us from knowing who to negotiate and sign his image rights with.

Like Dybala, Drăgușin has sold his image rights to a third party and that has put Napoli off as they wish their club to have control over players image rights.

That has not put off Spurs though but it does mean we have to negotiate with three parties, Drăgușin and his agent, Genoa and the company owning his image rights.

Deals will have to be agreed with all three of them for a deal to go through.

Genoa have rejected a second bid from Spurs of €25 million (£21.52m) plus add-ons suggest one report, but another says a deal for €20 million (£17.18m) + €6 million (£5.16m) add-ons + Djed Spence on loan is about to be finalised.

Which report do you believe? Well. the second one is from Di Marzio, the man to listen to when it comes to Spurs deals in Italy, the Sky reporter being one of Fabio Paratici's best friends.

Our opening bid was for €18 million (£15.49m), which is simply a method of lowering the other parties expectations and bringing down the level of agreement. It's a standard business negotiating practice.

NO formal offer has been made by Bayern Munich after negotiations that Genoa delayed any Spurs deal for.

The Italian club are in no rush to sell, indeed they would rather sell him in the summer, but my sources tell me the deal is basically done.

We made an official offer (that means one in writing, usually after it's all been agreed verbally) and the paperwork is with the lawyers to check before the deal is signed.

Antonio Nusa

Tottenham have had a meeting in Belgium with Club Brugge over a deal for sought-after Norwegian international (4 caps, 1 goal) Antonio Nusa.

The deal for the 18-year-old (19 next April) would involve loaning the left-winger back, just as we did with Destiny Udogie.

Matías Soulé

Tottenham had a meeting with Juventus technical director Cristiano Giuntoli about a potential transfer for 20-year-old (21 in April) Matías Soulé.

The Argentinian U-20 right-winger is out on loan at fellow Serie A side Frosinone and Tottenham are keen on a deal and have been watching him closely since the summer.

Juventus are said to be looking for €20 million (£17.18m) for the exciting talent who has taken his chance out on loan.
  • Joint 3rd most goals (8)
  • 2nd most key passes (43)
  • Most successful dribbles (64)
His creative passing from the line attacks the spaces and he looks as if you would fit Postecoglou's system well, plus Juventus need to keep raising money.

Further Targets

This window Spurs will be looking at a central midfielder if a deal for
Pierre-Emile Højbjerg is finalised.

The players Ange Postecoglou is interested in to replace him are;
  • 28-year-old (29 in December) Kalvin Phillips at Manchester City
  • 24-year-old (25 on the 10th of January) Youssouf Fofana at AS Monaco
  • 23-year-old (24 February) Connor Gallagher at Chelsea
Éderson has not been forgotten either. The 24-year-old (25 in July) Brazilian at Atalanta in Serie A is an outsider at this moment though.

As I reported the other day, Juventus have not been convinced by Phillips and have rejected bringing him in this window, opening the door for Tottenham and Newcastle United.
