Post Match Spurs Chat

Hello, a general chat today.

Before the game yesterday, our possession stats under Antonio Contye was 49.8%, yet under Ange Postecoglou it's over 60%.

You can't score a goal if you have the ball and you can't concede a goal if you have the ball. Common sense dictates, the more you have the ball, the greater chance you have of winning, presuming you are trying to do something with it.

Spurs did.

My pre-game post on the Dutch 1974 'Total Football' (link opens in a new window) that big Ange Postecoglou wants us to play looked very apt with our centre-back scoring a belter on the stroke of half-time, curled into a top corner rather than just hit as hard as possible in the general direction.

Steve Nicol ESPN

"When you've got a group of players that dislike doing what they've been told to do then you can see the difference so quickly.

"You've just got a group of players who one day were told you need to be there, you need to be there, you need to be there, you need to be there and then once we get it [the ball], then we'll start thinking about what we're going to try and do the other side of the field.

"As opposed to a guy comes in and goes, right, listen, when we don't have it, yes we need to get some sort of some organization, but, I'll tell you what, soon as we get the ball I want people getting forward, I want people on the ball, I want you making runs, I want you making runs for the other guy who's getting the ball, I want you to open up and get after it...

"And if we're going to lose, I want us to lose with a crowd behind as willing us on, cheering as on.

"It's not always going to go the right way, but I'll tell you what, we're not half going to have a go at it. I mean for a football player to go from that to that it's like oh yes please thank you."

Happiness matters, enjoy what you do matters, hence why you should avoid the negative people in life, not just football, they are a noose around your neck, a noose around the clubs neck.

Heung-min Son

Heung-min Son

Since 2014, including his time in the Bundesliga at Bayer Leverkusen, Spurs captain Heung-min Son has scored 115 goals from his xG (expected goals) of 85.85, which is outstanding and of course, includes his understandably (playing with a hernia injury) poor season last season.

Big Ange says he's ideal for 'Angeball'. just like Thomas Broich (Brisbane Roar) and Kyogo Furuhashi (Celtic) before him.

The Vincent Kompany formula for getting better

Vincent Kompany has been a highly successful footballer having spent 11 years in the Premier League winning trophies for Manchester City. As their captain he knows how to handle matters when things are not going well so perhaps Spurs fands should heed his words.

He spoke after the Burnley game about how you go about improving and it isn't through the knee-jerk reactions fans display.

1. Keep people calm
2. Focus on doing the analysis of the things that need to improve
3. Deciding what you want to do as a next step to improve
4. See in performance how you perform against a similar level of opponent

Emotion gets in the way of that because people panic. It's at these times where you learn about the character of the players.

You also learn about the character of your supporters.

Are they positive (good character) or negative (bad character). You are not going to follow negative people into battle are you, you't totally lack confidence, it would be a massive hindrance.

But positive people, well that's a totally different kettle of fish, enthused you fight better, harder and achieve more.

One way you give yourself a chance of victory, one way you don't.

Are you going to feel better and perform better if people are cheering you on all week or being negative all week. It's not rocket science is it and yet...

There is a reason why Ange Postecoglou said in one of his first interviews after joining us that fans should be supporting every member of staff at the club to help achieve things quicker.

Tottenham Transfer Talk

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg turned down Fulham who offered £30 million. Atletico finally offer a loan deal of "2 million and an option to buy at £17 million. Obviously that was totally unacceptable, not Daniel Levy pricing him out of a move.

Tosin Adarabioyo refused to join Spurs because we wouldn't guarantee him a starting spot each week, hence why he wanted to go to Monaco and not us.

Connor Gallagher was a replacement for Hojbjerg, so with the Dane refusing moves he couldn't join, squad was big enough already.

Lloyd Kelly: Bournemouth didn't want any loan deals and didn't want to do any late deals either, despite entering the last year of his contract. Spurs will see what can be done in January and or next summer.

Davinson Sanchez has now agreed a permanent transfer to Super Lig side Galatasaray. The Colombian centre-back waited until the end of the window to see if any other European clubs came in for him with an acceptable deal for all parties, they didn't. The fee is around £12.6 million. The guaranteed element of the fee covers the remaining cost of Tanguy Ndombele's wages.

Ashley Phillips will be given an opportunity to step up and provide some cover until January. This gives him a clear development path with the real possibility of first-team football.

Tanguy Ndombele has agreed a loan move to Turkish side Galatasaray with a purchase option. This deal was agreed 11 days ago and like Sanchez, Ndombele waited until the end of the window to see if a top tier league UEFA Champions League side came in for him, they didn't. Galatasaray are only paying 25% of his wages.

Striker: Ange Postecoglou decided against a striker. As we saw Saturday, our Aussie head coach feels Sonny can handle that role freeing up a wing space for Solomon or Brennan Johnson.
