Spurs Chat - The Team and Scouting

Hello, knee-jerkers.

Today we'll have a Spurs chat about the team and scouting in a mere 1,010 words.

Yes, the Sheffield United performance was unacceptable and yes, the Milan performance was unacceptable, to be honest.

I wouldn't regard it as an improvement from last season, yes they were a tougher opponent, but it just highlighted how poor we currently are.

I completely get building foundations, totally, it is an absolute must, but there should be better foundations after 13 months.

Conte is not a silly man.

He knows that with an uncertain future, the players are not going to play, what's the point in their view, why do what a manager wants when you don't know if the manager is going to be there the following season.

Everyone assumes Contee is gone at the end of the season and Pochettino is back, basically because of press rhetoric, but the press knows nothing of course.

I keep an open mind on it, I can see both sides.

Build or change.

I'd be interested to know how many of these players Conte believes can not improve and how many can.

That would tell us how far along the foundation-building stage purs are.

Think about building a house, well in the UK anyway, building the foundations takes an eternity, then the actual on-top-of-the-ground building goes up quickly.

Conte has spoken before about needing 5-6 windows to build the club, which basically means totally changing the squad.

Off the top of my head, I'd say there are still 10 players to change.

Does the club have the stomach for that?

Let's think like one of our many knee-jerk fans for a minute.

Fans believe a manager should change a team so that it is capable of winning a trophy the following season, fans see a year as enough.

fans see that every player should be bought and sold in one window, totally forgetting that players might not actually want to come to Spurs or might actually not want to leave.

If you sack Conte and bring in Pochettino, for instance, you are now asking the players to IMMEDIATELY learn a new system and be bloody good at it IMMEDIATELY to get Top 4.

Another manager is not going to play this brand of football so it would take until the end of next season to get different foundations in place.

Do you continue with the building contractor you have employed or bring in a new contractor, with new ideas of how to do everything and all change again.

Professional football is NOTHING like the football you play or used to play, nothing like it.

Fans shout for a creative player, yet Spurs don't play a system that allows a creative player to operate, we don't play with a #10, we don't play with a central attacking midfielder, that isn't Conte's system.

From Spurs' point of view, the club has to be built within our means.

Conte was employed understanding that.

The club looks a long way from the finished article, but would a change in a few positions immediately changes all that?

The club needs to understand how long Conte sees this process taking and that MUST be relayed to the fans.

This is where I'd say the breakdown with the fans is.

The problem is, which the Tottenham Hotspur Supporters Trust (THST) should have realised is not "What is the club plan?"

We have been told that before, it's "How long will it take?"

That's what the fans really need to know, how long do we have to wait?

If people have a timescale, they can judge progress against that timescale.

A building contractor has everything planned out, he has timescales he is working to so you knowhen the end product is expected.

The Tottenham Hotspur plan is to rival Barcelona and Real Madrid, both on and off the pitch.

The infrastructure has to be built to achieve that and in that respect, ENIC, Daniel Levy and the board have been fantastic.

On the pitch, there has been the 4th highest NET spend in Europe since 1918/19, an investment the THST didn't even notice, such is their grasp of the situation.

The real question is, what has been done with that spending?

Have there been significant improvements in the quality of the squad?

Questions
a) Is Richarlison any better than Erik Lamela?
b) Is there discord between manager and players
c) Do the players 100% believe in these tactics
d) Are Spurs just a few players away from turning the corner and being a Top 4 side and trophy challengers?
e) How much of the foundations have been built?
f) Why was there an 'unacceptable' performance against Sheffield United with a trophy at stake?

I suspect, if you answer the last question, you'll have answered the rest.

Scouting

So, one of our scouts, Jeff Vetere, formally of Real Madrid, has been sacked for revealing Tottenham are targetting Kevin Mier on Colombian TV.

I have told everyone that staff CAN NOT reveal transfer targets and they would be sacked if they did and here is the proof.

This is also proof that journalists DO NOT know what is going on and merely give their opinion or invent or repeat the foreign press.

So who is this Kevin Mier chap nobody has heard of?

He is a 22-year-old (23 next May) Colombian U-20 international goalkeeper born in Barrancabermeja.

Mier plays for Atlético Nacional in the top Colombian division, the Liga Dimayor I and Vetere revealed in a TV interview with Win Sports TV that he was a 'key' target.

I have long said we need to scour South America to pick up talent because it is a cheap market, it is a poor part of the world where players are motivated to succeed to financially help their wider families.

Fabio Paratici will now have to find someone new to head up and restructure the developing player recruitment department.

This demonstrates the supporters complaining Spurs are doing anything, simply don't know anything about football.
