Spurs Summer Transfer Window Day 79
The end results this summer have been the Spurs Summer Transfer Window series and we have another rendition today, the Spurs Summer Transfer Window Day 79.
I enjoy this, every day I sit down at my laptop and I haven't a clue what I'm going to write about and something will inspire me, be it a comment, be it a quote, be it a tiny sentence, but once I start writing then it can flow and I'll still be tapping away two hours later, having interspersed it with research of various points.
I do this for enjoyment, I do this to keep myself better informed than most, I know the tricks journalists use to 'con' such as 'I have been told', which means they read it on the Internet, as does 'Sky Sources'.
Generally I don't employ them, sometimes I'll dip the quill in that ink though.
So let's see what I have been inspired to write about in your Exclusive Spurs Chat this morning.
I talk about the Kaisen approach a lot, it's that important, the way to big gains without making big leaps.
You analyse every aspect of the football club and you keep make small improvements that all add up.
Take for instance my calls for a set-piece coach, well we now have one that has netted us 3 goals in 3 games and 4 points as a result.
Last season we scored a total of 8 goals from set-pieces all season!
Not every small improvement is going to have that impact but i shows hat can be achieved.
Fabio Paratici is in charge of the football side of the club and has been overhauling us, overhauling the much maligned scouting network for instance.
You have heard me talk before about scouring South America for the next great talent and bringing South Americans over before they come to Italy or Portugal to blossom and then be sold on for huge fees.
There is an opportunity here that Spurs should be exploring.
Well, our new chief scout, Leonardo Gabbanini, who joined us from the worlds largest scouting network, the Pozzo scouting network, is not only an Italian market expert but a Brazilian one too.
We have brought in a first-team player who came through the youth ranks, Ryan Mason and a player who has achieved everything at club level, Yaya Touré to pass on that knowledge to our academy lads.
We have seen the immediate impact of the experience of high quality with Ryan Sessegnon already praising Ivan Perišić so the input of Touré for the academy lads ill be invaluable.
He was asked about becoming a Spurs coach and as everyone seems to say, he spoke about what a friendly family club Spurs is.
"I would like to take this opportunity to thank Tottenham. They are fantastic at the club. "Since I arrived there I feel like I've been in a family - it's amazing what they've been doing for me and I want to say thank-you to them."
Nottingham Forest vs Spurs
Nottingham Forest have had a mixed start to their Premier League (PL) campaign (W1, D1, L1) and are difficult to assess with so many new players coming in this summer, 17 in all now.
They sit in tenth-place and can be happy with their return after three games. Their goal is obviously to finish above the relegation places for the first time since 1995/96.
Forest had a dramatic 1-1 draw with Everton before easily beating Grimsby Town 3-0 in the midweek League Cup tie.
The Reds or Tricky Trees, who were founded in 1865, have scored in their last 12 consecutive home league games (W11, D1), but in the Premier League their defence will have to come to the fore.
This has been as issue as they only have two clean sheets from their previous nine league outings (W5, D2, L2).
I think at £19,000-a-week, Nottingham Forest have made a sensible signing in former Tottenham right-back Serge Aurier.
He has played at a good level, he joined Spurs from PSG, has European and international experience along with Premier League experience. Many will knock it, but that's quite a silly thing, Forest are a newly promoted side and signing proven Premier League players is only going to help them.
Only Chelsea have spent more in the transfer window than Nottingham Forest.
Tottenham secured a fourth clean sheet from our previous six Premier League (EPL) games with a 1-0 victory over Wolves last weekend, which extended our unbeaten EPL run.
Our last nine EPL games has seen six victories and three draws and Spurs have yet to concede a shot from within our own 6-yard box this season.
Since the start of the year only Liverpool (53) and Manchester City (50) have gained more points than Spurs (48), a stat that might surprise a few as it suggests e are not as far away from those to sides as is generally thought.
We go to the City Ground for the first time since 2005 and will do so again in the League Cup in November.
THBN Stats:
- Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Dean Henderson has never lost a game against Tottenham (W2, D1).
- Harry Kane scored in his last away game against Henderson.
- Forest have faced the most shots from open play in the PL this season (47).
- Harry Kane has now scored 185 EPL goals, overtaking Sergio Agüero (184) as the most prolific scorer for a single club in the league’s history.
Oliver Skipp remain out but does start training again next week.
All the regurgitation website and social media accounts have been giving you false information about Cristian Romero, who has not recovered from his abductor muscle injury.
He is not available for selection and indeed, doesn't even start training with the team until Monday. It always seemed fanciful to me, but you have to applaud his desire to play in every game.
No point in taking risks though, we'll be needing him in the UEFA Champions League in just over a weeks time.
The suspected month out proved to be not the case thankfully.
I'm looking forward to this game, not only to see Spurs but to have a look at Nottingham Forest and enjoy them being back in the big time with their history under the great Brian Clough, whp performed miracles with them.

It has been a summer transfer window where both Chelsea and Arsenal have gambled on reaching the Top 4 and getting UEFA Champions League football, as failure to do so could see them having to sell players on salaries they can't sustain for too long.
Manchester City, Tottenham and I think Manchester United are the only three teams to qualify for the Champions League while playing on a Thursday so Arsenal are up against tradition.
Squad depth ill be key and that is something Tottenham have addressed this summer. Antonio Conte has built a stronger squad than e have had before as he doesn't ant his work undermined through injuries.
I'm hoping next week sees Fabio Paratici make a late move for Antonio Conte favourite, Sergej Milinković-Savić, the 27-year-old (28 next February) Serbia and Lazio central midfielder.
It seems with no suitable clubs for Harry Winks in the Premier League he has decided to accept the loan move to Sampdoria, according to Fabrizio Romano and that he'll travel there this weekend.

The Kaizen approach is a good description of what we see around the club this last year or so. So many little improvements across so many areas. I think someone has also made the point that getting successful, and probably more importantly much loved, ex-players back in with duties that include a club ambassadorial role is a great idea. Hopefully it will help to build even stronger ties between the club and the fan base. It may even convince some of them to get a more positive attitude. No breath-holding on that last one but crossing fingers won't hurt ;-)
