Spurs Summer Transfer Window Day 78

Spurs Summer Transfer Window Day 78

It's the final countdown, the final week is already here for the window, today is Spurs Summer Transfer Window Day 78 and the club have many irons in the fire.

Exclusive Spurs Chat

The potential targets know who they are, we know who they are but there are always late spanners in the works when a player out of the blue becomes available and is passed around by an agent or club to potentially interested parties.

Nobody knows who is on Fabio Paratici and Antonio Conte's list, we know some, we don't know others.

It is well known our focus has been to shift players and bring a couple more in.

That means we have a set amount of wages to offer and a set amount for transfer fees.

Naturally the two purchases must fit within those cost parameters, it isn't a case of go buy one, then go buy another, the overall has to be calculated and the best pair for our budget sought.

That has been the case all window and we have chipped away at those resources to leave us in the financial situation we have now.

There has not been the incomings from sales we had hoped, but that scenario would have all been calculated at the beginning of the window to be reassessed part the way through.

One of those, at least two, coming in will be homegrown or English Football Association trained to qualify for the UEFA Champions League squad, be they currently in this country or playing abroad.

Yesterday I spoke about fear and the fact that you can't let it control you, but according to Dejan Kulusevski, that is exactly what has happened at the start of games and why Spurs have started slowly in every game.

"I don't know! I can attack the goal more, for sure. Sometimes I'm just in a different world when I play.

"I feel so comfortable sometimes, so I just play and have fun, but he doesn't want me to have fun - he wants me to kill the opponent in a sporting way!

"He was angry, but we were all angry at ourselves. Early in the game, we didn't wake up, we didn't play good. We played a little bit with fear.

"We have to improve. We have a good team like we showed in the second half, but we have to show that from the first minute. We have a lot of improvement to do.

"I feel that for sure [that's a game Spurs might not have won last season]. I think even if we're not playing at the top level everybody, we're still winning. That's very important.

"We have to win. It doesn't matter how you play, you have to win. It was a very good result, and we're very happy."

Fear inhibits, it's like we play a first-half not to lose and try to win in the second half, been that way for years, yet when Liverpool finished second under Brendon Rogers, they beat teams in the first half.

Fearless makes a difference, we have to learn the right balance.

I spoke about Mauricio Pochettino and his demand that players play out from the back at all times and not simply clear their lines with a Spurs player telling Andy Townsend that they would be dropped if they didn't obey.

Rangers are joining the royalty of Europe in the UEFA Champions League because PSG messed up playing out from the back.

We saw the friendly between Barcelona and Manchester City where Frenke de Jong scored because Man City messed up playing out from the back.

With no money in the game in Europe we are not being offered what we want for the players we want to sell.

They players we want to sell are not being offered the wages they want, however, all are aware that if they wait for a late loan move that Spurs will have to pay the remainder of their wages, thus a disincentive to agree a move away.

Of all the Premier League relegation contenders after Harry Winks on loan, perhaps Southampton are the most likely to stay up.

Leeds United, Nottingham Forest, Everton, Southampton, Fulham. I would have thought Aston Villa, Brentford, Crystal Palace or Leicester City might be his best options, if they want him.

Reports from Italy suggest Serie A giants Juventus have given up on signing Barcelona's Memphis Depay because his wage demands are too high.

Atlético de Madrid emerged yesterday as another potential destination for Spanish left-back Sergio Reguilón.

Being homegrown for Spain, this move seems more likely than some of the others that have been proposed.

Once again it is a potential loan move but a Champions League club is what he wants.

Chelsea centre-back Trevoh Chalobah is certainly a homegrown player Spurs have an interest in and he would be open to a move to Tottenham.

Our fellow Londoners would rather sell him abroad with Italian sides Inter and Roma interested.

Spurs would be interested in an initial loan move with an option to buy the 23-year-old (24 next July) right-footed former England Under-21 defender..

UEFA Champions League

Champions League Draw

Nobody can be upset with that draw can they, the UEFA Europa League winners who finished 11th in the Bundesliga, the team who finished 2nd in Liga Portugal and the team who finished 2nd in Ligue 1.

Eintracht Frankfurt

Eintracht Frankfurt

Eintracht Frankfurt employ a 3-4-2-1 system of play which they have for a couple of seasons so are well versed in it.

Inverted winger Daichi Kamade from Japan likes to drift central, hence their left wing-back getting forward a lot, which last season was thi best player Filip Kostić, who has since joined Juventus.

Kostić managed 3 goals and 8 assists, his potential replacements, Erik Durm, Timothy Chandler and Danny da Costa have one assists between them.

Centre-back Evan Ndicka, who doesn't want to leave this summer, is a aerial threat from corners.

This website will explain the Eintracht Frankfurt playing style for you (opens in a new window).

Sporting CP

Sporting CP

To gen up on the Sporting Clube de Portugal system, I suggest turning to The Analyst (opens in a new window) and an article from January 2022.

Marseille

Marseille

Finally in our group is Marseille and we'll turn to Get French Football News (opens in a new window) to learn about the frantic and flexible style of football they play.

The draw means Tottenham youngsters will once again play in the UEFA Youth League against the same teams and hopefully these games can be streamed on SpursPlay.
