Spurs Summer Transfer Window Day 75

Spurs Summer Transfer Window Day 75

Three games in and Liverpool haven't won a game, we have a head start on our rivals Chelsea and Manchester United too so Spurs Summer Transfer Window Day 75 is one to enjoy.

Spurs Summer Transfer Window Day 75

I have suggested several times over probably the last 3/4 years that Spurs TV should screen live our youth games and that is exactly what happened on SpursPlay on Sunday.

The Tottenham U-21 side drew 0-0 with the Manchester City U-21 side away from home and it was shown 'live' on SpursPlay.

It just shows that if I do keep repeating my suggestions people at the club do listen, mind you I have sent an email to Daniel Levy with my thoughts too.

It's very satisfying so I won't stop when I have ideas.

Set piece coach, first team psychologist, SpursPlay, increased emphasis on mentality, injury prevention expert, have all been ideas aired on this blog that have been taken up by the club.

There are just too many for it to be a coincidence.

Danny Murphy gave his Man of the Match to Rodrigo Bentancur.

Here is his match assessment on the evening BBC football highlights show Match of the Day:
"I was really surprised first off because after getting that late equaliser at Chelsea, I expected them [Spurs] to come out really on the front foot, high in energy but they were lethargic. A bit defensive, bit cautious.

"Wolves were goo. Wolves tried to integrate a couple of new players. they look like they've got some potential in the side. They're struggling for goals but they did alright first half."

"Second half, what he must have said to them at half time god only knows because they come out and the reaction was brilliant. The intensity was better, they got higher up the pitch."

"Look at this [picture above]. It's the first minute of the second half. Kulusevski is chasing down the ball, there's the four midfielders, the 343 he likes he likes to play. First 50/50 they had really won on a clearance in the whole game.

"It allows them to get more men in the box, gets the fans going. In the first minute momentum starts to change.

"Bentancur, Tottenham's best player today, super performance, making them make mistakes in midfield by an intense press.

"They didn't quite win it this time but they regain possession, start gaining confidence, more touches on the ball, which allows players to get forward, play with more freedom and play with more confidence.

"Spurs had a 2v1 on the right now and then of course on the left-hand side you see Ben Davies, not of course, but because he's confident he's coming out of the back three.

"This is your centre-half who hadn't really gone over the halfway line in the first half and he nearly gets himself in, if Son hadn't had it he'd probably get himself a chance there so the momentum was starting to shift and Tottenham were starting to be brighter.

"A quick free kick, Kane and Son relationship we've seen so many times, that hadn't happened in the first half. We didn't see any brightness, any sharpness.

"The best example, Spurs take a risk, try and win the game. Six defenders, six attackers, we're going to pressure, we're going to win the ball back.

"They make them play it long win the header, you've got control of the ball again. This is Tottenham playing with more confidence in trying to win the game instead of being cautious.

"They get an overload on the left-hand side. Perišić first start did well, good bit of skill gets his team a corner. The fans are up for it and what do they do off the set play, they get the winner because Harry Kane does what he does.

"The difference from the first half and the second of was immense. The only concern for Tottenham is why they started that way in the first place, but I think the manager deserves credit. Here's the difference [picture below]."

Spurs won the game thanks to Harry Kane's predatory instincts, he faked a move one way which Collins went for, checked and went the other way with Collins now out of the game ball watching.

Collins had kept Kane in check until that point but it only takes one mistake, one bit of excellent forward play and the ball is in the back of the net.

People talk about Kane getting tap-ins, but he gets tap-ins because of his movement, movement others don't have with the same regularity, otherwise they would get as many.

That alone shows it is an undervalued skill, anyone couldn't have scored it, everyone doesn't score it with the regularity he does.

He was quiet against Chelsea and scored the equalizer, he was quiet against Wolves and scored the winner.

Frank Leboeuf on ESPN:
"Tottenham are not convincing when they have the ball but are very good on the counter attack. Defensively they do the job and attacking they have somebody who can make the difference and Harry Kane is that guy."

Ivan Perišić

Ivan Perišić was talking to his teammates about the game straight after the final whistle offering advice before going over to the fans to applaud them and get straight back to making recommendations.

I have revealed he is having one-to-one's with Ryan Sessegnon, is the father figure for our wing-backs giving them advice, but he is also talking to young 22-year-old (23 next April) Dejan Kulusevski about his game.

Perišić is really using his experience to help the youngsters in the team and in my view is our best signing of the summer.

Dejan Kulusevski 22
Ryan Sessegnon 22
Djed Spence 22
Emerson Royal 23
Matt Doherty 30
Ivan Perišić 33

Harry Kane

Harry Kane's right ankle is swelling up after games and needs strapping up.

Son might need to step his game up and Richarlison might need to see more game time.

There will come a time when Kane needs a rest. How long that will be and how long for, goodness knows.

Sergio Reguilón

Newly promoted Premier League side Nottingham Forest, who have made 16 signings already this summer transfer window, are reportedly in talks to sign Spanish left-back Sergio Reguilón.

As with everyone else they want a loan move while Spurs want a sale, but may well be forced to loan him out and pay part of his wages.

West Ham United are the latest club to be mentioned, as a loan deal of course.

Bryan Gil

Tottenham and Valencia are meeting next week to continue discussions for Bryan Gil to play in Spain next season.

Valencia want a straight loan now with no buy option.

Eric Dier

Eric Dier has agreed terms with the club over a new contract, or at least his representatives have.

Ruslan Malinovskyi

Atalanta head coach Gian Piero Gasperini shocked everyone by starting Ruslan Malinovskyi against AC Milan, in the thick of transfer speculation around Tottenham Hotspur, Nottingham Forest and Olympique Marseille.

Former Everton player Ademola Lookman was expected to start this Serie A game in his place.

The game ended 1-1 on Sunday after Atalanta took the lead in the first-half and who scored their goal, yes, Malinovskyi.

Daniel James

Spurs have not stopped searching for homegrown talent and we have been scouting youngsters who, in certain circumstances, we might consider purchasing.

Planning a transfer window is a very complex affair, as you have to plan for every eventuality and have preliminary discussions with potential targets, however stretched the possibility of signing them is.

It is very much if this happens we do this, if this doesn't happen we do this or this or if something has taken more funds then a rejigging elsewhere has to take place.

Daniel James, the 24-year-old (25 in November) right-footed Welsh international (36 caps, 5 goals, 5 assists) and Leeds United winger is apparently on our radar.

He signed from Manchester United in August 2021 and has made 84 Premier League appearances in all, scoring 10 goals with 12 assists.

He has contributed to a goal every 264 minutes, Erik Lamela contributed to a goal every 216 minutes.

James is a very good ball carrier with pace and control, has the ability to strike a ball on the run, something you don't see wingers doing today as they play on the opposite wing, right-footers play on the left.

There really is nothing to say as nothing has happened just a journalist suggesting an interest.

Champions League Squad

The UEFA Champions League squad is dictating our transfer business at the moment so here is a reminder of the Spurs squad position.
