Spurs Summer Transfer Window Day 69

Spurs Summer Transfer Window Day 69

Looking at things with a calm head, I'd say until the new players are ready to be integrated into the team they should remain on the bench.

Why, when others are calling for change immediately, well, because we aren't playing Chelsea every week and under Conte we are the third best side in the league on results, second best on goals scored now, one behind Man City..

When August ends we have two games a week so there will be plenty of opportunity to start, whereas now they can be given game time as they learn their roles.

Having said that, I would have started Ivan Perišić verses Chelsea simply because he is next level to Sessegnon.

I said at the start of the summer transfer window that I'd replace Pierre-Emile Højbjerg, I'd have him as a squad player and personally I haven't seen enough of Yves Bissouma over 90 minutes, as opposed to Match of the Day highlight reels to make a judgement on him.

I think we are missing a top quality midfielder in that role and that we need to sell Matt Doherty (Emerson appears to be our first choice), who is non-English Association trained for European competition, to make way in the Champions League squad so we can sign one, in addition to Zaniolo.

Everything can't be done in one window though so maybe it has to wait a year.

Chelsea Second Goal

It seems some don't understand the role of defensive or central midfield players is to protect the back three, not expose them so sorry to disappoint you ladies but the fault was in front of the defence for the second goal conceded.

We were pulled out of position, our players were all pulled to one corner of the field and we paid the price, it isn't Kane's job to be the defender of the runner to our penalty box.

The ball was central and it's Højbjerg's job to be there. It needed greater communication and an experienced head to see the danger. That didn't happen.

To run through the middle of the field with no defensive midfielder to stop you is poor, whatever excuses to try to make.

This intellectual powerhouse that leaves comments (yeah he's anti-Levy, ant-ENIC anti-Spurs obviously) tells me Højbjerg was man marking and therefore not his fault.

Here is the graphic for their second goal just before the pass. Can you spot who Højbjerg is man marking because I can't.

The intellectual powerhouse claims Dier (#15) should have been in the centre but as you can see Dier is already marking a Chelsea player and can't leave him.

Romero is marking a Chelsea player and can't leave them.

In front of Romero is Bentancur who should be getting further forward and too his left, but is moving too slow.

Beside him, to his left is Højbjerg, who does not need to be there.

The graphic below shows the situation, the danger, the is no need for Højbjerg to be over there, no need at all, that's Bentancur's job.

He should have called Bentancur over quicker and moved himself more central, in other words to his left.

Below is the ball on it's way and Højbjerg has actually gone the wrong way and stepped towards Bentancur but the ball went to his left, not his right and we were left exposed.

Sorry, but Højbjerg had a big role in conceding that second goal.

Well that's cleared that up with facts.

Tottenham Snippets

Tottenham have lost just one of the last 13 games.

Against Chelsea we didn't receive a single yellow card, well not the outfield players! This last happened in another London Derby against West Ham United in March.

After two games, Spurs have already taken four more points than in the corresponding fixtures last season:

2021/22
Lost 2-3 vs. Southampton (H)
Lost 0-2 vs. Chelsea (A)

2022/23
Won 4-1 vs. Southampton (H)
Draw 2-2 vs. Chelsea (A)

Progress.

Conte Red Card

As suggested we should, Tottenham are looking into appealing the red card for Conte, who get sent off for basically nothing, given Tuchel was inflaming a situation and refusing to let go of his hand.

The hypocrisy of Thomas Tuchel, if that is what he said.

Sergej Milinković-Savić

Tottenham could return to signing Sergej Milinković-Savić this window, Antonio Conte is said to be a huge admirer of the player.

James Garner

Tottenham Hotspur, Everton, Southampton, Leeds United and Nottingham Forest are interested in James Garner who is valued at £14 million.

New Chief Scout

Tottenham have appointed Leonardo Gabbanini from Watford and Udinese as the new chief scout.

He started working for Spurs in May after leaving the scouting network created by owner Gino Pozzo, who also owns Udinese and Granada in Spain.

The Pozzo network has legions of scouts, it is the worlds largest scouting network.

Giovanni Lo Celso

Tottenham are paying 20% of Argentinian midfielder Giovanni Lo Celso's wages whilst he is on loan at Villarreal.

Tanguy Ndombele

Napoli are having further this week with Tanguy Ndombele and Tottenham. Whilst a fee has been agreed, his wages still need to be resolved, so much for him taking a pay cut to play!

The Napoli deal with Spurs is to be a €1m (£843,316 - US$1.02m - AUS$1.45m) loan fee with a buy option in the summer of 2023 ahead of the 2023/24 season for €30m (£26m - US$30.47m - AUS$43.38m).

These figures come from Gianluca Di Marzio, best mates with Fabio Paratici.

Illan Meslier

Tottenham continue to look around for a Hugo Lloris successor and are casting an eye over French U-21 goalkeeper Illan Meslier.

Meslier already has Premier League experience, albeit only two games, as the 22-year-old (23 next March) joined Leeds United from Ligue 1 side Lorient for £5.85m (6.95m - US$7.06m - AUS$10.05m) on July 27th 2020.

That will do for today folks.
