Summer Transfer Window Day 5
3 min read
Good morning folks and welcome to the Summer Transfer Window Day 5, it'll be such a better day than Day 4 don't you think, well it's a day nearer the weekend.
If you missed it, here is Summer Transfer Window Day 4
Now, what shall we discuss today?
Well, let's divide opinion.
Daniel levy stated, quite rightly, that the vision is for Tottenham to rival Barcelona and Real Madrid, both on and off the field.
Now, the anti-crowd won't want to accept the truth, but you have to build the off the field side first to achieve the on the field side.
And that is relative too so further down the scale that applies.
Tottenham has had to build as a sustainable club before it can invest in the team so that club income can afford to pay for that investment.
Should be obvious to any sane individual.
The club has been built up and work started on potential future revenue streams. The club can not settle for what it has now, it should always be looking to grow income in the short-term and the long-term.
Anyway, the point of this chat is to demonstrate where we are in relation to Barcelona and Real Madrid financially and help you understand there is a long way to go yet.
Manchester City haven't won the Champions League trophy yet with all there money, not have PSG.
We are the relative newcomers to that list, the others have been there for years and are winning trophies regularly.
Tottenham has had to build to get to the top table and we can't rest on our laurels now.
The attention to the playing side has clearly been made with the appointment of Fabio Paratici and Antonio Conte, who was Daniel Levy's choice of manager and he who convinced Conte to come, obviously explaining future investment plans.
Conte may well have been suspicious with this being a new phase of our development and no track record of it having happened under current ownership.
Yes, he has clearly kept up the pressure in press conferences, but the investment is there, thus the development plan that was outlined to Conte to help come and build gave him the opportunity to create something and forever be known as the manager who transformed our playing fortunes.
That's the legacy he is after, this isn't just about winning a trophy, it's a building project with trophies as rewards along the way.
There is the potential at Tottenham for a head coach to make a name for himself, even if he already has one.
Marco Ascensio
Players get offered around to clubs all the time, some are of interest if the deal is right, some are not and some simply wouldn't interest the player who might want a higher grade of football.
Apparently, and I don't know how true this is, but Spurs and Arsenal (why only those two clubs reported?) have been offered 26-year-old (27 next January) Marco Ascensio of Real Madrid.
As far as I am aware the left-footed right winger was offered to Manchester United and Liverpool as well for instance.
They have just signed some chap from Monaco for €80m + €20m add-ons (£68.32m + £17.08m) sold to them by Paul Mitchell, not bad considering the guy was only valued at €60m (£51.23m) lately.
You see everyone tries to maximise income from sales, not just Daniel Levy!
Ascensio joined Real Madrid in 2014, had a season on loan at Espanyol and has been regularly playing for Real Madrid since.
He has a contract until 2023 so would be cheaper than his true market valuation and would certainly make a decent understudy to Kulusevski and Eriksen!
