Summer Transfer Window Day 21

Summer Transfer Window Day 21

Hello readers and welcome to Tottenham Hotspur Blog News (THBN) and the Spurs Summer Transfer Window Day 20.

Well, yet another of my ideas is coming to pass, South American players, a first team sports psychologist and mentality training, Eric Dier, buy him then, make him the mainstay of our defence, Kaisen improvements, injury prevention, internet streaming and more, both on the field and off the field.

It's the difference between a winning mentality and the mentality of people who try to win. Winning mentalities don't settle for comfort zones.

News from Italy now talks of another of my ideas coming to fruition, a specialist set piece coach.

It is reported that Italian set-piece coach Gianni Vio is reportedly close to joining Antonio Conte's staff at Tottenham.

It is adding a little detail, but an important one, to our armoury, the Kaisen way.

People immediately think corners and free-kicks and totally forget an area where we need big progress and need to take a leap on the oppositions by developing throw-in set plays.

Our throw-ins are dreadful, they are not planned, players, quite frankly, don't know what to do and often lose the ball.

If we can improve our throw-ins and a simple throw in to feet, not bouncing as it arrives would immediately improve us, then we can keep possession more.

You score goals when you have possession, not when you don't.

Gianni Vio is the man Mancini used to help Italy win the European Championships in England, where we inexplicably threw kids into a penalty shoot-out, despite having penalty takers like Dominique Calvert-Lewin there.

Southgate brought on the wrong players to take penalties and cost England a trophy as a result.

Vio is a 66-year-old former banker who created 4,830 set-piece routines for Italy for Euro 2020.

Leeds United, Brentford and AC Milan have all benefitted from his coaching.

Al-Ain (UAE) brought him in to do a 20-day clinic and now it looks as if Spurs will.

Catania (Serie A) avoided relegation because 17 of their 44 goals came from Vio set piece routines, when he used to fly to them on a Thursday and return home on a Sunday.

For his coaching licence he wrote a thesis entitled, Set pieces: the 15-goal striker.

Would an extra 15 goals from set pieces help Tottenham? Hell, yes.

He told a Venetian newspaper who asked about his methods:

"All I’ll say is you need to analyse the players that you have and find solutions tailor-made to their skill set. There are players whose reading of the game is special. At the highest level, Sergio Ramos comes to mind.

"Wherever you put the ball, you can bet he’ll find a way to get on the end of it. Timing is the most important thing when it comes to finishing off a set piece."

Mentality plays a big part in the game here too as Vio is using psychology to confuse defenders, to put them in situations they haven't encountered and haven't been coached how to deal with.

You have read my articles on this before, but briefly you put worry into a players head and that anxiety of being out of their comfort zone causes mistakes, causes slow decision making or rash decision making and that creates opportunities to profit from.

Transfer News

Tottenham have spoken with Jordan Pickford to let him know we are interested in signing him next summer when his contract expires at Everton.

It is simply something for him to keep in mind when discussing a new contract with the Goodison club. Will they be fighting relegation again?

Richarlison will be a Spurs player soon. The discussions taking place are on how we pay, not how much we pay.

Everton want as much cash as possible up front and we want to structure it over the term of his contract so it is a question of finding a happy medium that suits all parties, plus how much of it should be bonuses and when they are triggered.

Where do I stand on him? I think he a good signing and I think he'll improve playing with better players and having more chances.

Former England international and homegrown midfielder Harry Winks is now close to joining Everton in a separate deal.
