Summer Transfer Window Day 16

Summer Transfer Window Day 16

Welcome to the Summer Transfer Window Day 16 and if you haven't read Day 7 yet, do so, that's an order.

It gives an overall picture of the Summer Transfer Window (Day 7) from a Spurs perspective and explains the base information we are working from.

Well, what can we tell you today, things are close, things are closer, things desperately close, no, I'll leave that to the clickbait journalists.

There are a lot of discussions going on at the same time as we juggle our options.

Last week we were holding defender talks, we are also discussing forwards now, although not all of them fit our 'play across the front three' criteria, like Raphinha.

Newcastle United, West Ham United and Arsenal are all trying to shop at the top table but none have the pull as UEFA Europa League is the best they can offer, or in the case of Newcastle, wages and signing on fees.

As we found when we were in their position, players are reluctant to sign until UEFA Champions League possibilities have been exhausted.

Richarlison, as I have posted previously, is our number one choice but Everton are asking £60m (€69.84m - US$73.58m - AUS$106.47m) for him, which we won't entertain.

Again as reported previously he wants to join and to back this up his agent is in constant contact with us.

His agent is no doubt trying to get Everton to lower their demands to a more realistic level as they priced him to keep him, not to sell him, but he wants to leave.

Understandably, when a Champions League club comes calling he wants to further his career at a higher level than Everton can offer.

They want Harry Winks but have no money so have asked for the former England international on loan, we prefer a sale. Everton are in financial trouble so there is bargaining to be done.

Lampard likes young players so could there be the possibility of offering Rodon and Tanganga, then there is Moura to consider too.

The Steven Bergwijn deal is basically done but it is being strung out in the media while we chat to forward replacements, then suddenly it will all come together.

As ever, we need players out of the door and not hanging on throughout the window, there are only so many wages you can pay.

I'm going to throw a prediction out there for our pre-season tour.

You will see Dejan Kulusevski get some time playing more centrally so we can have a look at his versatility, so far we have only seen him on the right.

As stated a while back now, we were offered Gabriel Jesus but turned him down, one that is a way down our list.

Italian winger Nicolò Zaniolo is a player we have been interested in for years but who is believed to want to stay in Italy and join Juventus.

But is that going to happen, Fabio Paratici is now in Milan and has met with Roma Sporting Director Tiago Pinto to discuss 22-year-old (23 next April) Zaniolo, who has had extensive injury problems and Joe Rodon.

Sampdoria and Marseilles have both made loan enquiries for young Spanish international winger Bryan Gil, who Spurs want playing Champions League football next season ideally. Marseille fill that criteria.

Antonio Conte has been offered 29-year-old (30 next February) Argentinian striker Mauro Icardi by PSG but our Italian head coach has said no thanks.

Tottenham, Chelsea and Manchester United, the Spanish version of AS claim, are discussing the potential of signing 28-year-old (29 in September) Atlético Madrid and Belgium winger Yannick Carrasco this summer, after details emerged of his £51.49m (€60m - US$63.17m - AUS$91.43m) release clause.

Portuguese international João Félix is also the subject of discussions with Atlético, who have been offered Giovanni Lo Celso by Paratici.

We have extensively scouted 22-year-old (23 next March) RB Leipzig centre-back Mohamed Simakan.

The right-footed French international (2 caps, 1 goal) is another who has emerged as being on our list of centre-back possibilities.

I have mentioned Adrien Rabiot to you before and his fee of between £12.88m (€15m - US$15.8m - AUS$22.85m) and £17.16m (€20m - US$21.07m - AUS$30.47m)  has emerged.

He donated the space to a charity and has chosen mental health support foundation ‘Shout’ to be the recipients.

“I am thrilled to be sponsoring Leyton Orient’s kits for a third season. I was born only a couple of miles from Orient’s stadium and am really happy to give back to the Club that gave me my first professional start.

“I am pleased to welcome Shout to this partnership. Covid has presented many challenges, and these have affected the mental health and wellbeing of many people. Shout provide a vital helpline and resources to the public, helping to positively improve mental health and wellbeing.

“The special charities I have chosen for the front of shirts all mean a lot to me, and I hope this platform will help them receive the exposure and support they need.”
