PL Transfer System Infiltration

PL Transfer System Infiltration

Free-agents

The transfer system in the Premier League is different to the draft system in American sport.

Players are a clubs assets and have a monetary value.

In America players are changed for other players or changed for drafting rights.

In the Premier League a new contract is negotiated and signed for each transfer.

In America only the ownership of the player is changed.

A transfer fee is basically compensation for a breach of contract between the player and his club.

I haven't looked up today's figure but even back in 2013 free transfers hit 29%, that figure will certainly be higher today.

A free transfer occurs when a player decides to run down his contract and doesn't sign a new one, usually to maximise his signing-on fee and wages at a new club or if his career is winding down.

The Bosman ruling of 1995 about the freedom of movement of workers and freedom of association, allowed players greater control.

A club could no longer inhibit a player from leaving for a more suitable contract.

If a club wants to sign a player who is under contract to another club then they must submit a written offer (official bid).

In practice, negotiations take place before this (unofficial bids) and only when agreement is reached or a buying club feels a selling club might accept, do a club make a written offer.

It is interesting the difference between the UK and the USA, could you imaging if agents had to negotiate with the Premier League over wages etc and clubs just then went to the central hub and purchased what option they wanted.

If the player then agreed to the move, his contract remains the same.

Or if we had a draft system where the lowest club had first pick of these players and if that player didn't want to play for them, then the club could negotiate a deal for him with another club.

Won't happen but it levels up the playing field.

OK, some of you think journalists all have contacts within a club being fed information or are even a mouthpiece for the club, which they are assuredly not.

In reality what happens is a bit like ham radio or monitoring police radio bands.

The modern version of that is WhatsApp group chats.

You see similar tweets from journalists and folk who have been chucked off forums on Twitter, which originate from their WhatsApp group, not the club.

Infiltrating WhatsApp groups is the modern form of journalism.

Oh yes, a transfer window happened, the little one.

So how did we fare?

Who cares, it is what it is, you can't change it.

Actually I'm quite OK with it...

Two players in who will play...

Four players out who would not have played (indeed they were told so).

Tottenham have trouble shifting players who are not playing in recent times.

Players have not wanted to let go of their wages.

Conte has acted like a winner acts, ruthlessly...

He has cut out those dragging others down and thrown out those he can't trust...

Much the same as I and others cut out the anti-crowd.

We coaches think alike you see.

Fabio Paratici has shown he doesn't think like a negative fan...

Or journalists pandering to them.

Clear the decks, bring me more players I can rely on, that was the simple message...

Ably carried out in preparation for NEXT season.

The summer is the big window.

We have cleared space...

We have reduced the wage bill...

Giving us room for manoeuvre in the summer.

Lots of free agents, lots of players with a year left.

Here is just 25 free agents in the summer.

  • Corentin Tolisso Central Midfield 27 Bayern Munich

I could have listed another 46...

Heaped with players you would know...

Free-agents

And another big list for players with a year remaining.

A lot of opportunity this summer...

That we couldn't take advantage of if we had overspent now chasing this season.

Paratici will be looking to bring in...

AT LEAST...

Another 4 players to meet the agreed 6 Conte felt he needed in his first two windows.

Some players now have four months to convince Conte they have a future at Spurs...

Sessegnon, Rodon, Sanchez, Doherty, Emerson and Gollini, I'd suggest.

The young players have to show enough to suggest they can improve to the standard Conte wants...

Whereas the non-homegrown players have to prove they shouldn't be swapped for upgrades in the summer.

I look forward to seeing our new boys...

Particularly the Swede...

And pushing for a Top 4 slot.

Have a great day...

I will.
