Tottenham Talk Jan 2nd

Dean-Henderson

Welcome once again to some Spurs chat and Tottenham Transfer Talk now the winter transfer window is open.

Watford 0 Spurs 1

Antonio Conte made it 18 points out of a possible 24 since he arrived and remains unbeaten after his first 8 Premier League games extending the record for a new Spurs manager.

We won, thank goodness but our old problems remained.

The biggest problem was a lack of movement up front, meaning we had no penetrative passes to make, hence we struggled to do anything in the final third.

A creative player needs movement ahead of them so they can play balls behind defenders and into the channel a player is moving.

If forwards are static, then playing the pass puts the percentages in favour of the defender.

Against a packed defence you have to go around them, your wing-backs become important and they have to deliver good balls into the box, neither Reguilón nor Emerson managed that, with Emerson being dreadful at it quite frankly.

It showed we have a long way to go to challenge Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City.

Tottenham Transfer Talk

Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United and Ajax are monitoring the situation of Dean Henderson who needs to leave Manchester United to get regular first team football if he is to pursue his desire to be England's number one.

The 24-year-old (25 in March) is under contract until 2025.

Randal Kolo Muani

Fabio Paratici looked into the possibility of taking 23-year old (24 in December) French U-21 international (7 caps, 228 minutes, 1 goal) striker Randal Kolo Muani on loan this month.

However, Nantes have decided to keep him until the summer when his contract expires.

It is thought he has agreed to join Eintracht Frankfurt then.

Álvaro Morata

Tottenham have recently made an enquiry for 29-year-old (30 in October) Juventus striker Álvaro Morata.

Juventus are looking for a new striker and the Spanish international (50 caps, 23 goals, 6 assists) is available for around 35m.

He has been on loan at Juventus since September 22nd 2020 until June 30th 2022 on a loan fee of £18.49m (€22m - US$25.02m - AUS$34.43m).

Barcelona are the favourites to sign him with Real Madrid and Chelsea also tracking him.

Clément Lenglet

Possible good news for Tottenham is that Barcelona want to sign 27-year old (28 in May) Spanish international centre-back Aymeric Laporte from Manchester City.

That will mean a centre-back leaving, likely either Clément Lenglet or Samuel Umtiti, neither of which are Spanish homegrown.

Barcelona have been trying to force Umtiti to leave but he has thus far refused.

We have tracked both and I reported only a week or so ago about our current interest in left-footed 26-year old (27 in May) French international (15 caps, 1 goal) centre-back Lenglet.

Following on from the young Italian players we are watching that I revealed in my last article, I though I'd list a few more players we are keeping tabs on.

Saša Lukić

Saša Lukić is a 25-year old (26 in August) Serbian international (24 caps,1 goal, 2 assists) central midfielder playing for Torino in Serie A.

Gleison Bremer

Gleison Bremer is a 24-year old (25 in March) Brazilian centre-back playing for Torino in Italy.

He is right-footed and under contract until 2023.

Maxime Lopez

Maxime Lopez is a 24-year old (25 in December) central/defensive midfielder playing for Sassuolo in Italy.

The former French U-21 international (12 caps) is under contract until 2025 and 90% right-footed.

Florian Wirtz

Changing country, Florian Wirtz is an 18-year old (19 in May) attacking-midfielder for Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen.

He already has 4 full international caps and has featured in 33% of his clubs league goals this season.

Bayer Leverkusen sporting director and former German international Rudi Völler, has no interest in letting his young star go and has tied him to a contract until 2026.
