Monday Spurs Chat and Tottenham Transfer Talk

Japhet-Tanganga

Do you regular readers remember me writing the importance of a left-footed centre-back as opposed to two right-footed ones.

I see Twitter is talking a lot about left-footed centre-backs now as if this is some fresh news, when in fact it is how we winning mentalities look at a situation and see the details others don't consider.

Having a left-footed centre-back add another diagonal ball, another problem for the opposition.

Playing a right-footed player on the left hinders his passing and telegraphs a cross-field ball as he has to change his body shape.

When defending it means he can intercept with his correct foot instead of trying to do everything with his right and getting into difficulties.

Naturally after a week we see so-called supporters complaining about no signings yet, even though Fabio Paratici has been ill.

These people need to get a life.

Charles De Ketelaere

Tottenham have been tracking the progress of 20-year old (21 in March) Club Brugge wonderkid Charles De Ketelaere for quite some time now report Voetbal Nieuws.

They also say that Conte has given Paratici the green light to pursue the striker, who is under contract until 2024.

Real Madrid, PSG, Chelsea and Leicester City have all been linked with him, to name but a few.

De Ketelaere has scored 9 goals and had 6 assists in 21 League games this season.

Transfermarkt value him as the most valuable player in the league and he is now a regular in the national squad too.

Japhet Tanganga

AC Milan have had contact with the agents of Tottenham centre-back Japhet Tanganga about the possibility of a loan move, but Spurs only want a permanent sale for €25m.

We have offered him to Juventus.

Tanganga hasn't had a great season, losing his head at Crystal Palace and costing us against Chelsea, as well as his poor marking for Morecambe's goal.

Against Chelsea he gave the ball away in our half, after which Sanchez (who once again had foot positioning problems causing him to steer the ball into his own net) did the rest, then instead of heading the ball for a throw-in, he tries to head it out at 90 degrees and headed it straight into Ben Davies.

The lad has a hell of a lot to learn and isn't anywhere near a top four player yet.

Against Morecambe Sessegnon has poor end delivery and poor vision for a pass in the final third, meaning he plays the ball too late.

If we want to challenge, then the performances Tanganga is turning in are unacceptable.

He needs to go somewhere and play regularly and if we sell him, then we need to start adding buyback clauses like Barcelona and Real Madrid do.

That brings us to a very good point about this window, clubs are looking to bring players in on loan deal, not permanent transfers.

Clubs are only interested in releasing out of favour players, who as a result may not be match fit.

It isn't window where a great deal is done as clubs don't want to ruin their season and need squad players to stay and cover for injuries.

We are signing Dušan Vlahović in the summer so which striker is going to accept a 6-month loan deal with Tottenham?

It'll be tough to sign one this window as a result.

Joshua Ajayi

Ramsgate have confirmed that 19-year old (20 in May) forward Joshua Ajayi has been offered a trial by  Tottenham Hotspur, and is off to White Hart Lane this week.

Ajayi, who prior to joining Ramsgate was a youth player for Crystal Palace, has been in superb form this season, scoring 19 goals on just 24 games.

Tottenham are not the only club taking notice and Rams boss Matt Longhurst told the clubs social media team that there was "imminently" going to be a bid for the player.

Nabil Bentaleb

Trouble maker Nabil Bentaleb has been a free agent for the last six months, after parted ways with Schalke 04.

The 27-year old (28 in November) Algerian central midfielder was once an international player (35 caps, 5 goals), though thanks to his attitude, he hasn't played for his country since 2018.

He was cast aside for having showed too much of a bad temper.

How he has officially joined Ligue 1 side SC Angers on a contract until 2025.

Tanguy Ndombelé

Tanguy Ndombelé once again showed no desire to play for Spurs with his performance against League One Morecambe.

He was rightly booed when he came off and hopefully we can get rid of him this window.

He has been offered to clubs since last summer and has been offered to Juventus once again.

Paratici explores possibilities of including him in swap deals so we'll have to see if he can pull a deal off.

Lucas Digne

Former Barcelona, PSG and Roma left-back Lucas Digne would offer us more of a threat down our left-hand side than Ryan Sessegnon, who lacks the vision in the final third and thus puts in poor crosses, when in position.

The 28-year old (29 in July) is out of favour at Everton with Rafa Benitez thinking he is uninterested at Everton.

He is a player we have tracked for years and is interesting Newcastle United, Leicester City, Chelsea, West Ham United, Aston Villa, Inter Milan and Napoli.

Mauro Icardi

Tottenham have been linked with 28-year old (29 in February) Argentinian Mauro Icardi, currently at PSG but wanted by Juventus.

First choice for Juventus is Dušan Vlahović, but his desire to join Tottenham is making it 'difficult' for them to do a deal so they have turned their attention to Icardi, who is very receptive to the move.

Juventus are still in financial difficulty so could be ripe for the picking, hence talk of us signing their winger.

Napoli, Newcastle United, AS Roma and Atlético de Madrid have made enquiries.

Antoine Griezmann

Tottenham are looking to Spain for 30-year old (31 in March) attacking winger Antoine Griezmann, who left Barcelona 4 months ago to rejoin Atlético de Madrid on loan.

The French international (102 caps, 42 goals, 29 assists) had joined Barcelona for £100.33m (€120m - US$136.33m - AUS$189.85m) in the summer of 2019.

Tottenham are exploring the possibility of bringing him to London on a deal worth £41.8m (€50m - US$56.81m - AUS$79.11m) and naturally are offering Tanguy Ndombelé as part payment.

He would add a goal threat to our squad plus quality depth, but his salary is a stumbling block, currently £15.05m (€18m - US$20.45m - AUS$28.48m) which equates to about £289,410-a-week.

Currently he has a right thigh injury and is out until February, thus a deal is far more likely in the summer.
