Tottenham Transfer Talk on Wednesday 6th Oct
Good morning folks, it has been a while since we had some Tottenham Transfer Talk so let's put that right today and devote this Tottenham Hotspur Blog News (THBN) post to the speculation that surrounds Spurs transfers.
Former Spurs player Paulinho, who was only ever interested in money, as his move to China demonstrated signed a three-year contract in June with Saudi Professional League side Al-Ahli.
It was worth €10m (£8.51m - US$11.6m - AUS$15.91m) a year (£163,664-a-week) but after only 58 days that contract has been terminated!
Nuno Espírito Santo
A report in the Athletic suggests that Tottenham are in a strong position with the employment of Nuno Espírito Santo whether he succeeds or not.His 2-year contract with Spurs includes a clause that allows the club to release him after next summer, without paying compensation, if he does not secure a top 6 finish.
That is one hell of a deal for the club and an indication from Nuno that he has great faith in his ability and that if he can achieve something with Spurs then he could break into the higher level of management market.
That would augur well for him both home and abroad in the future.
The internal motivation is there for him to succeed or he wouldn't have taken the job on such insecure terms, we wait to see if he can produce.
Lorenzo Pellegrini
Lorenzo Pellegrini is clearly a player admired by Spurs' Managing Director of Football Fabio Paratici, but as I mentioned several times during the summer, he wants to join Juventus.
Don't all Italians, just as all Germans want to join Bayern Munich.
That move eventually didn't happen and he remains at Roma under their new boss José Mourinho, about whom former Brazilian goalkeeper Júlio César, who won Serie A Goalkeeper of the Year twice and UEFA Club Goalkeeper of the Year, said recently:
“Without a strong mentality, you can’t play for Mourinho. He squeezes every bit from you like an orange.”
That was certainly a problem we suffered, however our fans blamed Mourinho and not the players, so the problem is and will be perpetuated until the squad can be re-built.
Fellow UEFA Europa Conference League side Roma are currently in negotiations with Pellegrini over a new contract which will substantially raise his €30m (£25.62m - US$35.42m - AUS$48.38m) release clause.
Will that see us drop our interest?
Franck Kessié and Nahitan Nández
We retain our interest in fellow Italian-based midfielders Franck Kessié (AC Milan) and Uruguayan international Nahitan Nández (Cagliari).
For me, we need a powerhouse like Franck Kessié to replace Oliver Skipp while he learns his trade.
It would strengthen our central midfield, which has been a problem for us this season and allow Skipp time to develop further, plus have someone experienced to learn from.
Kessié is 25 in December and the Ivorian has been playing in Serie A since 2015 when he was on loan at Cesena and played 37 games.
He has played 215 Serie A games in all.
Nahitan Nández would challenge Pierre-Emile Højbjerg as the right-sided box-to-box midfielder with sound defensive capabilities and Højbjerg could also cover centrally in case of injury or suspension.
That would give us Højbjerg and Nández challenging for the right side, Kessié and Skipp on central duty, backed up by Højbjerg, with Ndombele and Lo Celso challenging for the final berth.
Dejan Kulusevski
Tottenham are considering a January move for Dejan Kulusevski. Paratici signed the 21-year-old (22 next April) Swedish international right winger for Juventus.Spurs sent scouts to watch Kulusevski in the Champions League against Malmo earlier this month.
He is a fringe player at Juventus, has played 240 minutes in Serie A in 7 games and is under contract until 2025.
Harry Souttar
Tottenham are scouting 22-year-old (23 later this month) 6ft 7in Stoke City defender, Harry Souttar.Everton coach and former centre-forward Duncan Ferguson, went to cast an eye over the Australian international (7 caps, 6 goals) centre-back with the Toffees planning for the possible departure of Colombia international Yerry Mina.
He came through the ranks in Scotland, playing youth football at Brechin City BC, Celtic BC, Dundee United FC (2011-2014) and is the brother of Hearts player John Souttar.
Since joining Stoke City he has had loan spells at Ross County and Fleetwood Town (2 seasons) so the Championship side have already received more in loan fees than they paid for him.
He is the tallest player in the Championship and slender, meaning he is agile and deceptively quick so he might have to fill out that slender frame to stop getting bullied.
It goes without saying that he is good in the air but he is comfortable with the ball at his feet too and bringing it out from the back.
Souttar has attempted 64 passes into the final third, completing 34 of them and has on occasions captained the club.
According to TGR RAI Toscana, Fiorentina will continue to demand a €75m (£63.83m - US$86.98m - AUS$119.32m) release clause and Vlahović's agent is demanding that he has to negotiate any sale.
Dušan Vlahović
Interesting news, Fiorentina president Rocco Commisso has revealed they can't get Spurs target Dušan Vlahović to sign a contract extension."Vlahović has not accepted our huge contract extension proposal. We've been trying for months, but it's over."
You will recall at the beginning of the summer when our interest became clear that I revealed he had said he would be staying at Fiorentina for one more year for his development.
The strikers constant refusal to sign a contract extension seems to tie in with that.
For doing that he wants a 10% (€7.5m) fee.
That is a condition of him signing a new contract, without that assurance, he won't, which just shows you how agents manipulate players for their own gain.
The Italian club are not interested in that and won't give in to those demands.
Harry Winks
Harry Winks was told in the summer that he wouldn't get much game time and was advised to look for another club.
He even went house hunting in the Midlands, but in the end decided he didn't want to leave and would stay to fight for his place.
Unfortunately he has never been the same player since his ankle injury and if stories from Italy are true, he is actively looking for a new club with a view to a move in January.
Inter Milan and Roma have been suggested, how much truth there is in that is debateable and of course Valencia held an interest in him, as did Southampton, Everton and Aston Villa.
Vitesse Arnhem
Spurs play Vitesse Arnhem in the UEFA Europa Conference League on 21st October and 4th November.Vitesse have released their Remembrance kit which reflects the colours of the British 1st Airborne Division, who fought to hold their position on the bridges during the Battle of Arnhem.
Well that's it for this morning's offering folks.

That is not a clause in most contracts so to get it in there is excellent work from Levy.
You are misinterpreting things to suit your anti Levy ENIC agenda rather than in the light of the bigger picture and the contract as a contract.
Boycotting games is plain stupid, it reduces the income and then YOU will be complaining Spurs are not spending when YOU have been reducing the clubs income and thus ability to spend. You can't be that stupid surely.
It seems you are though with your dumb rhetoric.
You are living in dreamland fella and you don't appear to be much of a supporter, another of these 90 minute supporters, which equates to less than 1% a week.
Everything you suggest is anti-Spurs, the club you profess to support but don't, you merely follow.
Try putting your agenda to bed, then you'll be able to see more and have a better understanding as it is a proven fact that positive people see more than negative people.
Your first point I can deal with as it made sense before the fog kicked in. To the idea that we should be aiming at least for the top 4 I would say I have to agree - except actually we should be aiming to win the league every two or three seasons. AND WE ARE. That is the main goal.
However, to get to that position we do have to move from where we are now. It would be aremarkable feat for Nuno to take a team as Spurs were when he signed on, and get them into the ECL places in a single season. …
