Quick Match Report
The game went as I expected and indeed predicted in yesterday's post, a disjointed performance.
Alas, as Glenn Hoddle said at half-time, many of the players look like they don't want to be there.
One shot on target in the whole game!
Nobody stood out but you also have to understand that if you have players not making the right runs, then the passes are not there to be made.
A player then has to change his game and perhaps try to do more himself.
Unfortunately that leads to a team playing as individuals, not as a team.
Heads go down, siege mentality kicks in, desperation, frustration, so you're in the wrong mentality and that just makes matters even worse.
All these players have the skill, all these players train together every day, they play together in this competition, yet they do not improve, why?
Sorry to remind you again, but it is entirely down to their individual mentalities, they are not internally motivated.
You mentally train players or you have to replace half your squad, which is cheaper?
Quite fitting in the links to previous articles below is a recent one on Player Motivation!
Nuno ought to know this as a head coach and be bringing in psychologists to do something about it but football remains in the dark ages.
We have an innovative new stadium, but we do not have innovative new thinking coaches bringing that into the team.
Japhet Tanganga - sorry but he mentally panics and he needs to sort that out.
Why is he diving to head the ball a foot off the ground in our penalty area when he should be stepping forward and volleying it clear with his right foot?
Poor decisions toward the end of the game. I'm concerned that he doesn't have it mentally to be a top player.
Davinson Sanchez - another who is mentally weak, makes wrong decisions under pressure and lost it at the end when playing by himself rather than defending as part of a unit.
Joe Rodon - started with a silly pass from our own penalty area and didn't improve. Another who wasn't in control mentally and his performance suggested to me that he isn't good enough to challenge for a first team slot.
Ben Davies - the captain put in his usual dependable shift.
Harry Winks - another frustrating display from Winks who did at least care that we were losing. However he dwells on the ball too long, his passing is to the man not in front of him.
Dele Alli - I'm afraid it looked to me like Dele has thrown in the towel and his beginning of the season mentality has disappeared. It's his closing down that tells me again, he couldn't be bothered and was easily bypassed in the game.
Duels attempted: 9
Duels won: 0
Enough said.
Bryan Gil - not his best game and lacked composure at times, decision making too slow at times.
Giovanni Lo Celso - tried to be creative but with players not good enough around him. He fell into the trap of having to try and do too much himself and thus had a poor game.
Steven Bergwijn - once again through on goal and lacked the confidence to finish it, slowed, turned back, chance gone.
I appreciate it was a fitness game for him but yet another player who needs mental work to improve.
Dane Scarlett - runs around but made wrong decisions, got bundled off the ball easily and when he had the chance to shoot he didn't. He has a lot to learn and isn't really ready for this level yet.
Well that's it for this morning's offering folks.
