Tottenham Talk on Tuesday 21st Sept - Spurs v Chelsea
Apparently we shouldn't have bought Romero, the best centre-back in Italy, because his buy option was less than we have agreed an option for.
He is on loan at the moment!
Apparently we shouldn't have bought Emerson Royal because the buyback option he had was less than we paid for him.
We should have bought a cheaper option so we could buy a cheap striker who we don't spend enough on when we have Son to do the job who has 49 goals and assists from 57 games in the role!
And yet we should have spent the amount Arsenal did, who are lower than us in the table!
So when calculating our spend they include loans but when assessing what we spend they ignore loans!
Leave football to the grown ups fellas.
Tottenham more than matched Chelsea in the first half and this was the FIRST times these players had played together in any game this season.
Reguilón should have made a better along the floor cross behind the defence for us to score and Son should have done better with his first half chance to score.
That basically cost us the game.
Alack of clinical finishing, a constant theme of mine, a constant reminder of why every chance in every game should be taken with the utmost seriousness.
Had we scored we would have had control of the game so there are positives to take from that first half performance and the fact that was the first time that set of players had played together.
Apparently though, even though our start is a better start than Pochettino gave us, we should sack the head coach after just 8 games and start all over again.
The stupidity of so-called supporters with that view is truly astounding and bloody annoying.
If we play like we did against Chelsea we'll have no problems this season, Chelsea are, after all, expected by many of the expert pundits to be Premier League champions this season.
And our players had only trained together for one training session, with two of them (three when Sánchez came on) having only flown in the day before, hardly ideal preparation for a game against the potential champions elect.
The instant gratification kids polluting social media are poison.
Our supporters or so-called supporters are the worst in the Premier League.
The Chelsea game showed us there is something to build on, it showed us we are better than the failure mentalities believe, it showed us we should be supporting the club, not constantly calling for change.
I saw a tweet the other day form another so-called supporter asking who we should sell, after only 7 games, who we should sell. Unbelievable.
How can these people in their tiny minds claim to be supporters, I have nothing but contempt for them.
Incredibly, some of these failures, actually believe they should be telling the club how it should be run with their fantasy 6-point plan far removed from reality!
We are 7th with, apparently, no hope of finishing 6th!
Thank christ our fans don't work for the Samaritans.
There would be a wrist slashing epidemic if they did.
Support your club.
Right onto what happened during the game.
Nuno won the tactical battle for 45 minutes and Spurs were the better side, but crucially did not score.
Tuchel won the tactical battle for 45 minutes and Chelsea were the better side and crucially scored early and won comfortably.
So why ere the two halves so different?
Well, Chelsea build up play in triangles, often down their right and Christensen is charged with coming out with the ball from the back.
Nuno came up with a plan to thwart Chelsea's short passing build up game.
We used Son as the central striker in a 4-3-2-1 formation with Kane on the left hand side of the field and Lo Celso on the right just behind the South Korean.
If I use their right, our left as an example, Kane, Ali, Reguilón and Højbjerg worked as a four man pack hunting down Christensen, Azpilicueta and Mount to stop their short passing build up play and to win the ball back high up the pitch.
Chelsea were reduced to playing longer balls meaning Lukaku had to always have hos back to goal.
The strategy was very successful as we had a man overload.
We needed to score to go in at half-time leading, when we could have changed our defensive shape to counteract Chelsea changes.
However, Son fluffed his lines when he had his big chance and Reguilón put in a poor ball when behind their defence.
The game hinged on those two missed chances.
At half-time Chelsea brought Kante on to play right-sided defensive midfield so we were not overloading them anymore.
Christensen stopped coming out from the back and exposing their remaining defenders to counter-attacks.
Chelsea could now adopt their usual short passing build up game and we had to stop pressing, we came up with no answer to their second half system.
Their early second half goal made life incredibly difficult for us as they have only conceded one goal all season.
We had to expose ourselves to chase a goal and when Chelsea scored again that was game over.
Our heads dropped a bit and we were playing out the remainder of the game without the belief you need to have that extra edge.
The individual motivation in every player wasn't there.
There is that mentality issue again.
Had we scored during our dominance in the first half we might have seen a whole different result but alas we didn't.
It did demonstrate that all is not lost, it was a very encouraging first half performance to build upon so there is no reason for the misery ravaged doom and gloom merchants to work against the club in the way they do on social media.
The fact that they can't even recognize the first half display offers encouragement demonstrates that they don't want to, that they want failure.
To call for a managers head after 8 games is just plain stupid especially when Pochettino's record in his first 8 games was worse!
Well that's it for this morning's offering folks.
