Tottenham Talk on Wednesday 18th Aug Part 2
Hello and welcome to another Tottenham talk piece, this time, in an effort to always be thinking about providing you with something different, variety is the spice of life, I have produced a snippets post with facts and observations.
Facts and Observations
- It was a brilliant move to have a flag on every seat, it certainly helped to create an atmosphere and perhaps something the club should encourage every game.
- Manchester City's lineup on Sunday was the most expensive XI on record - £550m in total, their bench cost £350m.
- Jack Grealish and Raheem Sterling - the current and former most expensive English players - got shut down by Spurs academy graduate and Man of Match, Japhet Tanganga.
- "Nuno will in fact bring a more effective brand of ‘Mourinho-ball’ to Spurs than the man himself"
- Oliver Skipp contained a Grealish, Fernandinho, Gundogan midfield on his return to the Premier League. He looked like he belonged, reminded me of Nabil Bentaleb starting and looking immediately at home.
- Son Heung-Min has scored in every home game against Manchester City following Tottenham's move to the new stadium in 2019.
- Captain Hugo Lloris drew level with Darren Anderton as the player with the most Spurs Premier League appearances on 299. He will hit the 300 mark vs Wolves on Sunday 22nd August (away, starts 2pm).
- A tweet by a Manchester City supporter that didn't really stand the test of time!
- Pep Guardiola has lost four consecutive away games against the same opposition for the first time in his managerial career, to the great Tottenham Hotspur where 58,262 watched the 1-0 victory.
- This was the 4th time in a row Spurs have beaten financial dopers Manchester City at home without conceding a goal.
- When a side defends for 90 minutes, they tend to drop deeper and deeper which simply add to the pressure, adds to a centre-backs and full-backs anxiety and thus increases the amount of mistakes made. When you have a shield in front of them and a pacey counter-attack, then you can defend higher. The result was excellent performances from Dier and Sánchez.
- Japhet Tanganga's performance was a brilliant indicator of why you don't loan someone out until the end of a window. Surely he has moved himself into #1 position among our right-backs and presumably we will see Matt Doherty play in the Europa Conference League on Thursday in the Estádio Capital do Móvel, Paços de Ferreira, Portugal.
- The UEFA ECL tie will see Pierluigi Gollini make his competitive debut in goal and I would expect to see Bryan Gil and Romero get some game time. Should we play Harry Kane to help improve his fitness!
- Steven Bergwijn has pace and skill and was perhaps utilized wrongly under Mourinho, but he simply must finish his one-on-one finishing. Clearly he isn't confident and doesn't remain calm in those situations which is a sports psychologists role to rectify. Will he be seeing one to work on it, nope.
- Spurs kept players up the pitch instead of camping all 11 behind the ball thus having no get out. That reduces the numbers City can attack with and helped to nullify them.
- Simon Jordan: "Daniel Levy is not doing anything other than what any capable businessman would do: we've got the supply, you've got the demand, there aren't many centre forwards in the world you can buy, you want our one, write a cheque or get lost."
- Tanguy Ndombele is proving difficult to shift, he basically has wanted out since he arrived and now is no different, it's why he isn't involved. We obviously are trying to include him in swap deals as part payment but wages are the issue. He may well have to go out on loan but we want to sell him.
- Spurs are trying to shift Winks, Sissoko (interest from Dubia, Qatar,Saudi Arabia, France, Italy), Aurier to bring in fresh blood so you can see, especially in Winks case, that he thinks the other two can go and he can stay, hence digging his heels in and not wanting to go anywhere. Has he given in now he has removed Spurs from his social media accounts?
- Man City can't sell the players they want to sell and we don't want them, hence why they are struggling to put together a deal for Harry Kane that we would be interested in.
- Dele Alli has to be applauded for the effort he is putting in to turn his career around ahead of a World Cup next summer. He has been lazy for a few years living off his image and failing to put the box-to-box football in that Nuno spoke about. His head was all wrong and fair play to him, he has changed his mentality and is doing what he needs to do to get back to his best.
- Tottenham are to increase the salary offer to Villarreal center-back and Spanish international Pau Torres in an effort to change his mind about joining Spurs without UEFA Champions League football.
- Aston Villa, as the club have signed promising forward Caleb Chukwuemeka for £300,000 which will rise to over £1m if certain conditions are met. he has signed a 3-year contract.
- I see Italian site Tuttomercatoweb are now including different currencies (€60 million £51m/$71m) in their reporting. My influence is spreading!
- Said this right at the outset when he was first linked with us. Manuel Locatelli to Juventus, done deal confirmed. Total agreement completed with Sassuolo for €35m plus add ons. Contract until June 2026.
- Harry Winks has unfollowed Spurs Official on Twitter and doesn't follow the club on social media now, telling.
- Pursued by Borussia Dortmund, Napoli, Inter Milan, AS Roma, AC Milan, Juventus, Fiorentina, Barcelona FC, and Manchester City, it is Tottenham Hotspur Sky Sports Italia say are at the head of the queue for 24-year-old (25 next August)Borussia Mönchengladbach French international (4 caps, 1 assist) left winger Marcus Thuram. €27m (£23m - US$31.63m - AUS$43.65m).
- The ITK crowd are denying that Spurs have an interest in centre-back Kurt Zouma of Chelsea, they are wrong. Yes we do have an interest and you can also ignore the fan nonsense that they wouldn't do business with us, they would, they are not stupid.
Well that's it folks, until tomorrow.
