Tottenham Talk on Wednesday 11th Aug - Harry Kane Explanation

Harry-Kane-Explanation

Good morning once again guys and welcome to Tottenham Talk on Wednesday 11th Aug with Tottenham Hotspur Blog News (THBN) with a Harry Kane explanation.

The band of daily readers is growing.

For those of you new to partaking today, I do not respond to every rumour with a new post for advertising clicks otherwise you'd just be reading the same that everyone else rushes out.

I put up a post in the morning, often daily, but I do allow life to creep into my life sometimes and take breaks.

You'll get articles that will make you think and cover topics you won't find on the news regurgitation websites that infest the Internet.

New posts are going up 07:30am GMT and at weekends 08:30am GMT with a very occasional additional post, like today in which I cover more on the Harry Kane story.

Now that you are here, try reading for a week and if you enjoy it, welcome to the gang.

Obviously it's a great help if you post a link on your social media for other Spurs fans to find me.

Cheers and let's get on with it.

Wages

This is an overlooked area by the fan.

Just look around Europe and see the problems clubs have got themselves into by overpaying on wages and the pandemic bringing them down to earth.

Barcelona lost Messi because they couldn't financially afford to keep him, even though, as he says, he wanted to stay this summer, but couldn't.

Both Real Madrid and Barcelona have to cut their wage bills by order of LaLiga. Inter are in the financial mire after overstretching, they have a wages bill that needs a lot more than the absolute minimum 15% they need to reduce it by.

Sevilla are having to sell and buy cheaper option, as we know looking to do swaps, Valencia, French clubs apart from PSG and German clubs, all having to cut costs.

Players are being offered new contracts on less money, some, like at Inter, have been asked to forego wages.

Tottenham are going through a rebuild during these time so the players we want to move on are on wages too rich for other clubs, hence why Toby Alderweireld went to Qatar to play and why Sissoko might join him.

I discussed loan deals yesterday.

Our rebuild incorporates reducing the wage bill and reducing the age of the squad while improving it.

Players in Europe are generally on lower wages, take Cristian Romero, he was on £31,000-a-week (basic) at Juventus (on loan at Atalanta) last season.

He replaced Toby Alderweireld, who was on £150,000-a-week so we can easily double Romero's wages, and he was voted the best centre-back in Serie A last season, or treble it and still save money.

Highly rated young talent Bryan Gil was on £9,500-a-week (basic), now at Spurs he is on around £40,703-a-week.

Yet he replaces Lamela who was on £82,000-a-week.

Danny Rose is no longer sulking over his £62,000-a-week and Joe Hart has gone £27,500-a-week.

We don't need to replace Rose as we have Ryan Sessegnon back and with the savings we have lined up our future number one on roughly £60,000-a-week less than Hugo Lloris.

Paulo Gazzaniga was on £19,000-a-week so his and Hart's wage saving pays for Gollini basically.

I think we can all see already that we have an upgrade on Joe Hart so Gollini is bound to play all the cup and Europa Conference games. He will put genuine pressure on Lloris.

Wages wise, we look good for the future.

Serge Aurier £68,000-a-week, Moussa Sissoko £80,000-a-week and Dávinson Sánchez £67,000-a-week are all players we will move on and make savings on.

They will be replaced, not by lesser players, but by players on lesser wages, sound and prudent business.

Wages wise, we are no different to clubs around Europe all trying to cut their wage bills too.

Fabio Paratici

You have seen for yourself that Paratici has plenty of deals lined up ready to pull the trigger on any of them, as and when the conditions are right for everyone, player, selling club, buying club.

Tomiyasu has been organised for a while, there is a meeting this week to dot the i's and cross the t's.

Several centre-backs have been lined up, Koundé (if no Champions League club agree a deal), Lacroix (I suspect if Koundé doesn't come off), Duje Ćaleta-Car (player tells West Ham he has a deal agreed with Spurs) and then there is Milenković (but I now hear he is going to West Ham) and Conor Coady.

It depends on what money we have, the homegrown situation, where players want to go and where we want to spend the money we have, plus the situation whether Kane stays or not.

As a club you have to have plans for Harry being at the club and plans if he isn't, if Man City stump up the money instead of trying to pay with players.

The deal they offered was absolute nonsense, the cash element would have only paid for Tomiyasu!

Maxence Lacroix

I hinted yesterday about a player we had gone back in for who originally said he wanted to stay at his club, Wolfsburg and that was Maxence Lacroix.

Paratici has submitted a bid for the promising 21-year-old (22 next April) French centre-back, yes Paratici not Daniel Levy, he has been staying out of negotiations, only handling the Harry Kane issue.

I'm writing this on Monday and I hear Nikola Milenković is going to West Ham.

Harry Kane

Manchester City have until a week left of the window to stump up for a cash only deal.

That's what they have been told.

We are expecting to finalise a naming rights deal, which personally I don't see being signed until the transfer window is closed.

I talked about the importance of Harry Kane in commercial deals and that some deals will only happen if a marketing commodity (Bale, Kane) remains at their club.

As I mentioned, Gareth Bale had personal deals that were dependent upon him being a Real Madrid player, well the same situation occurs at Tottenham.

The naming rights deal will be signed if Harry Kane remains at the club, hence Daniel Levy giving out a firm he isn't for sale and slapping a £200m price tag on him, which has frustrated Kane.

Kane feels aggrieved because he has been priced out of the market and I'm afraid all the talk from journalists about Nuno deciding whether to keep him after they have a meeting is complete nonsense, the decision isn't his, it's Daniel Levy's.

Levy ain't gonna sell Kane unless he gets a big chunk of money as it affects the amount we might receive from the naming rights deal and indeed may even cancel it altogether.

From a club point of view off the field, it is important he stays, it kinda helps us on the field too!

So, all this talk of a bumper new contract and everyone is assuming that it will incorporate a release clause for him to leave next summer, in which case their wouldn't be any point in giving him a 'bumper' contract, you'd offer the same wages and just insert a release clause amount or insert that without an extension.

That's what all the reporters are guessing and all the social media regurgitators and all the ITK too.

Well, I'm suggesting that Levy and Kane are negotiating a chunk of money for Harry each season he remains at the club from the naming rights money.

It seems to me we are in a building bridges process and Harry might stay with a fat bonus each season.

Levy wanted £40m-a-season in a £400m naming rights deal.

If you were negotiating a deal and insisting Kane must be at the club, you'd want Kane at the club as long as possible and as the company discussing the deal, you'd want a reduction if he left.

You would guard yourself about him just staying for one season.

Add Kane into the mix and you get to keep your striker and you get a naming rights deal to help fund a rebuild.

There is always more to these things than meets the eye.

Sergio Agüero

Sergio Agüero had asked his lawyers to get him out of his Barcelona contract now that Lionel Messi had departed the club and there were some suggesting Spurs would be interested in taking him.

However the Catalan club have announced the Argentinian will be out for 10 weeks.

"The tests carried out on the player of the first team have confirmed the injury to the tendon of the inner twin of the right leg. The approximate stop time will be about ten weeks."

You can cross him off your transfer wish list.

Manuel Locatelli

Juventua and Sassuolo are meeting on Friday to discuss the transfer of Spurs target Manuel Locatelli.

Juventus have offered €25m + €7m in add-ons and wanted an initial 2-year loan period.

Sassuolo want €40m + add-ons and are open to only the first year being a loan.

Whilst his desire is to move to Juve, the two clubs are still a long way apart in their valuations.

Sassuolo may ask for a sell-on clause to be added and Juventus may offer players to make up the financial difference.

Various options but again it shown the lack of money around in Italy at the moment.

Paratici will perhaps know after that meeting whether there is a chance of Spurs signing Locatelli or not.

Moussa Sissoko

There has been an enquiry for Moussa Sissoko from Turkish Süper Lig side Fenerbahçe.

He is one of a number of names submitted by their manager, Vítor Pereira to the management.

The list includes Arsenal full-backs Sead Kolašinac and Cedric Soares, Club Brugge striker David Okereke, Alanyaspor striker Davidson, Dalien Professional (China) striker Salomón Rondón and Moussa Sissoko.
