Tottenham Talk on Saturday 28th Aug

Harry-Kane

Good morning all you Lillywhites and welcome to Tottenham Talk on Saturday 28th Aug with Tottenham Hotspur Blog News (THBN).

Right, that's a bit of keyword stuffing in the first paragraph done, something I dabble with now and again, so now we can move on.

We'll start the Spurs Chat section today, with a story in the press about this wonderful North London club, that simply isn't true.

It is Thursday morning 07:20hrs GMT as I write this so you can see I write these articles in advance and so this story must have appeared on Wednesday I think.

You may have seen a story by the champions of the gutter press, The Sun, from one of our finest dishonest journalists that the Spurs players are not warming to our new head coach Nuno Espírito Santo.

This is complete lies and shows the type of journalism that Charlie Wyett produces, dishonest journalism.

The players most certainly have warmed to him, some players who were set to leave now don't want to, Harry Winks and Dávinson Sánchez.

The story claims Nuno has a grumpy reputation - UNTRUE
They say he is grumpy around Spurs - UNTRUE
They say he asked all the players if they want to be at Spurs in a team meeting - UNTRUE

What a petulant little bitter and twisted child Pep Guardiola has turned out to be and all because we wouldn't give him his toy.

"Tottenham did not want to negotiate. They didn’t want to talk, so we didn’t talk.
"We tried to open the door but the big master of negotiations, Daniel Levy, who knows everything, wouldn’t.

"I wish him [Kane] all the best in the last years of his career doing well in London."

The last years of his career, he's 28, Ronaldo is 36!

Let's move on to happier things.

Well happier for some.

What else shall we talk about today, oh yes, why does Fabio Paratici line up several deals at once for the same position?

The answer is twofold.

Firstly he always has somewhere to turn to get a player he wants.

Secondly, he can use these other deals to get the best deal on the deal he wants, indeed he can play them all off against each other and by slipping all the details to the press, there is pressure on each club to be as accommodating as possible to get a sale they may possibly need to bring money in.

So it is a negotiating tool as well as having an ever ready supply of players to choose from.

Daniel Levy has maintained from the beginning of the Harry Kane saga, that he would do what was best for Tottenham.

He thus placed a price on Harry Kane that was not going to be met £200m.

Covid has reduced everyone's income and as I wrote before, has therefore scuppered Harry Kane's attempts to move.

He stay is as much about circumstance than anything else, City simply couldn't afford £250m-£300m in one window.

Tottenham have constantly been talking with Harry so he knew the score and now the guy a section of our fans hate, love Daniel Levy for doing exactly what they complain about him doing, demanding top dollar for a player.

Kane Injury Record

20/21 missed 18 days
19/20 missed 93 days
18/19 missed 93 days
17/18 missed 35 days
16/17 missed 73 days

You look at it and say it's a bad injury record or you look at it and say, he only missed 18 days last season, negative vs positive.

Adama Traoré

Tottenham seem sure now to give Nuno his wish and bring Wolverhampton Wanderers winger Adama Traoré to Tottenham.

The two sides are talking, Traoré is happy to move to Spurs, the structure of the deal just needs to be agreed.

We have been following several wingers and his performance against us finally made our minds up that he was the one to go for.

So what are the positives in this move.

Yes his finishing is poor, but, he causes havoc and draws several players to him, which creates space elsewhere for others.

Against us, he was picking out players, OK they missed the target, but that's not down to him and perhaps Kane and Son will give us a better return on his work.

Again I have to ask the question if this means Son is going to be kept more central or moved across to the right?

Son and Kane have to play, which only leaves one slot for Bergwijn, Gil, Moura and Traoré.

Gil's performance on Thursday night suggested we don't need to sign another left winger but he also played inside too and looked a real quality player in the making.

Moussa Sissoko

Moussa Sissoko completed his medical at our weekend opponents Watford on Friday, which would keep him playing every week in the Premier League, that is something he will be taking a take a pay cut for.

I don't care what others say, he has been a good servant to the club and was Player of the Year once, helped us get to a Champions League final too.

It was never a penalty which gave Liverpool the lead so early on and killed the game.

The fee is £5m (€5.88m - US$6.85m - AUS$9.45m) I believe for the 32-year-old and his departure will free up a space for a non-homegrown player to be signed, but which one?

Both Sissoko and Tanguy Ndombele were offered to Juventus for Weston McKennie but Juventus wanted a cold hard cash deal.

Serge Aurier

Lille want Serge Aurier and I understand his move his dependent upon the outcome of talks between Mehmet Zeki Çelik

The Turkish international and Lille right-back has agreed personal terms with Club Atlético de Madrid over a contract until 2026.

Atlético have offered Lille €8m (£6.86m - US$9.41m - AUS$12.97m) for him plus a player and the French club would like to replace him with Aurier, who would be a homegrown player for them.

That would leave Spurs with a second non-homegrown place we could fill and Takehiro Tomiyasu would be that man.

This move could see Kieran Trippier go to Manchester United, he wants to leave the Madrid-based team and see Damian Dalot go to Borussia Dortmund.

One transfer could kick off four. This is why transfers take so long.

Ilaix Moriba

Ilaix Moriba

Spurs are willing to pay a fee close to €20m (£17.13m - US$23.59m - AUS$32.27m)
and are in deep discussions over Barcelona youngster Ilaix Moriba.

He is the player I exclusively revealed the Lillywhites were interested in and had spoken to, on 20th July and again on 1st August, long before anyone knew anything about him.

Moriba is the highest earning youngster Barcelona B has ever had and he wants more.

I concluded that his wages would simply be too large for his age, the 18-year-old (19 next January) was asking for £100,000 minimum.

Indeed it is being reported that his father is asking for a lot more than that.

The news from Spain though is that we have reached an agreement over personal terms, that we have offered a contract until 2025 and that we are happy to pay the €20m Barcelona are asking.

He isn't prepared to sign a new contract at Barca, even though the central-midfielder has already represented the senior XI  in LaLiga 14 times (1 goal, 3 assists in 536 minutes).

He made those 14 appearances from February to May and started 4 games during the period. He played against Real Madrid, Sevilla and LaLiga champions Atlético Madrid.

Ilaix is open to the move, but Tottenham don’t want to pay the €15m (£12.85m - US$17.69m - AUS$24.20m) commission his father is demanding, but both sides are keen to finalise a deal.

Moriba had a €100m (£85.67m - US$117.94m - AUS$161.37m)release clause in his contract when he was just 16 years old.

We have chased talented youngsters before but never managed to sign to talent, it seems that is changing under Paratici's guidance.

RB Leipzig were going to sign Moriba, but were going to use the money they received from Bayern Munich for Marcel Sabitzer, which was an agreed €20m (£17.13m - US$23.59m - AUS$32.27m), but the German giants haven't progressed that deal yet.

Mariba, his agent and father had a meeting with Barcelona where they asked for Moriba to be allowed to join RB Leipzig for free but Barcelona refused, but it confirmed that he does not want to be at the Spanish side.

It would seem his agent and father have lucrative agreements in place with RB Leipzig who have asked them to try and secure a free transfer.

He will be a free agent next summer but Barcelona are not waiting, they want to cash in on him now, if he wont sign.

Barcelona have told him that if they can't find a buyer for him and he doesn't sign a contract extension then he will not play for the first team at all during the season.

Obviously Moriba doesn't want that.

This is what is pushing the deal in our direction.

Chelsea have been speaking but have been turned down and Real Madrid were chasing him too but now it's Tottenham who are pressing hardest for a deal.

How do you think a Spanish outlet I was doing some research with suggested Tottenham would be able to raise €20m?

Yep, sell Kane to Manchester City!

The very latest, from what I can find out, is that Barcelona are apparently desperate to get shot of Moriba and have accepted Spurs offer of €15m (£12.85m - US$17.69m - AUS$24.20m).

There are €5m (£4.29m - US$5.9m - AUS$8.07m) of add-ons.

The fee to his father being the only stumbling block now.

Losers Mentality

On Thursday we saw the losers mentality of journalist Matt Law who clearly has something wrong with his vision.

Matt-Law

There is no positivity there at all, just negative, the epitome of a losers mentality.

It is a perfect example of why successful people avoid these people and look for signs of someone having positivity, one of the keys to success.

It is a World Cup year and Harry Kane is the England captain, he will want to be leading England out and he has a duty to the nation to set an example.

This is why the FA and Gareth Southgate had a word with him and advised him to get a PR form involved, which just happens to be the same firm the FA uses.

He will, therefore, be motivated as successful people put episodes behind them and move on, they don't dwell on them.

Matt Law, by failing to understand the traits of a winning mentality demonstrates he doesn't have one and as I have said before, if you don't have one, even if you think you do, you have no idea of the difference it creates mentally, no idea at all.

It is like asking an average man in the street about the intricacies of crocheting.

He hasn't a clue, just some basic concept.

Tottenham have one of the best strikers in the world for another season.

Kane may sign another contract.

His value, in my book and I was spot on about Spurs valuing him at £200m, will be £125m next summer, at least, so if someone wants to pay it, fair enough.

Tottenham have a season to demonstrate that he can win trophies here with a squad overhaul underway.

His staying may secure the Naming Rights deal currently in discussion and the name of Tottenham Hotspur has been talked about throughout the world, a better summer of marketing you couldn't wish for.

There are plenty of positives a winning mentality takes form the situation and remember Harry Kane has a winning mentality himself, he doesn't have Matt Law's mentality.

Harry Kane will not act in the way Matt Law would react.

What happened, happened, he will draw a line under it and move on, which he started to do a week ago when bringing in a PR firm to repair his image.

We haven't even mentioned the fact that he is a commercial asset too.

Thursday night Harry Kane showed Matt Law the difference between the pair, straight on the ball and scoring within 10 minutes in an all-round display that said you'll always get top effort from me.
