Tottenham Talk on Saturday 14th Aug

Dušan-Vlahović

It is Saturday, but we have another day to wait for our opening game against Manchester City, so time for a little catch-up over your coffee.

Included in Tottenham Talk on Saturday 14th Aug with Tottenham Hotspur Blog News (THBN) is Spurs Chat and Tottenham Transfer Talk.

The girl from Surrey is from good stock, has quality, class, breeding, yet makes wrong choices, choosing Jack The Lad, chasing excitement and finds herself in Essex where she has to change.

She becomes brash, shops at Primark, becomes all image and overdoes the make-up before she is rescued by Kent who brings out her natural girl next door qualities and calms her down before a potential move back to Surrey and a re-establishment of her class and quality.

So where are Spurs in that cycle?

Relegation in 1977 was the Essex low point.

I'd have us residing in Kent at the moment aspiring to shop in Harrods but not quite there yet.

Pau Torres

Another centre-back to add to the list that Fabio Paratici lining up as an option was
24-year-old (25 next January) Villarreal centre-back Pau Torres.

He was short-listed by Real Madrid in January to replace Sergio Ramos, but the Spanish giants agreed a deal with David Alaba of Bayern Munich instead.

The other candidates on that Real Madrid winter transfer window list were David Carmo (SC Braga), Jules Koundé (Sevilla) and Pau Torres.

The Spanish international (14 caps, 1 goal, 2 assists) who plays alongside Ramos for his national team, is under contract until 2024 and had a €50m (£42.41m - US$58.67m - AUS$79.89m)
release clause in his contract.

However, having made his debut for Spain in November 2019, that went up by €15m so now stands at €65m (£55.16m - US$76.27m - AUS$103.84m) despite papers like the Manchester Evening News claiming United were willing to pay his £50m release clause, as did the Express!

Villarreal are financially soundly run and haven't been hit as hard as some other clubs in LaLiga by the pandemic so might not be as ripe as some other clubs for asset stripping.

Torres Latest News: Villarreal accepted our bid of €45m + €5m add-ons but Torres turned Spurs down saying he wanted UEFA Champions League football.

Positive Mindset

Given what Sonny said to reporters, you might actually take notice of it, exactly what I have been saying for years.

"We're looking positive, he [Nuno] looks positive. I think if you have a positive mentality in the changing room & on the pitch, that's so important."

He's right and the creation of that is helped by the environment, it isn't helped by protesting so called supporters, who only positively support Spurs for 0.89% of a one-game week.

Trying to create negativity around the club 99.11% of the time isn't helping to create the happy and positive environment that success requires.

Maksim Paskotši

Alfie Whiteman did go on a season long loan to Swedish club Degerfors IF, who play in the highest tier in Swedish football, the Allsvenskan.

The goalkeeper might be followed by 18-year-old (19 next January) Estonian international (5 caps) centre-back Maksim Paskotši, another who impressed in the pre-season friendlies.

Swedish Partnership

There are suggestions that Spurs have agreed a partnership with Allsvenskan side Degerfors IF, hence Alfie Whiteman going there on-loan for a season.

He is likely to be joined by Spurs Academy youngsters Maksim Paskotši and 18-year-old (19 next April) Spanish central-midfielder Yago Santiago.

Lorenzo Insigne

Tottenham have contacted 30-year-old (31 next June) Napoli captain Lorenzo Insigne about a move.

The Italian international left winger has a year left on his contract and extension talks have stalled.

Inter (offered €15m + Alexis Sánchez), Juventus, Zenit St Petersburg, Atlético Madrid and Everton are all showing an interest.

Napoli are asking for €30m (£25.49m - US$35.2m - AUS$47.99m).

Transfer Snippets

James Ward-Prowse is too expensive, around £30m (€35.3m - US$41.43m - AUS$56.47m) being asked by Southampton and as I said, Winks is digging his heels in and refusing all offers from interested parties at the moment, the latest being Atletico Madrid.

Young left-back Denis Cirkin turned down a contract at Tottenham to join Sunderland for first-team football. As I wrote previously, we have a buy-back option and a sell-on clause in the transfer agreement.

Wolves are now chasing two loans from Benfica, Gedson Fernandes and Carlos Vinícius but they are proving complicated due to Benfica wanting an obligation to buy clause for each, whereas Wolves want options to buy.

Sky Sports report that a deal for Serge Aurier fell through because of his desire to play in the Africa Cup of Nations in January that will keep him away from his club for a month.

Odsonne Édouard

Tottenham have sounded out 23-year-old (24 next January) former PSG youth player Odsonne Édouard, the Celtic striker we have followed since he was at PSG.

His contract ends next summer and Celtic don't want to lose him for nothing, they are asking for £18m (€21.18m - US$24.86m - AUS$33.88m).

In 102 Scottish Premiership games, he has scored 58 goals with a further 28 assists over 6,702 minutes, which equates to 74.47 full games.

Édouard has already turned down Wolves and Brighton are in talks with Celtic.

Dušan Vlahović

Spurs have re-started talks with Fiorentina over a deal for Dušan Vlahović.

As you all know, Vlahović is Paratici's #1 centre-forward target and we are in competition with Atlético Madrid.

Tottenham offer: €60m (£50.98m - US$70.41m - AUS$95.95m) including add-ons
Atlético Madrid offer: €60m + centre-back Nehuén Pérez

Paratici will increase his bid in the coming days with Fiorentina asking for €65m (£55.16m - US$76.27m - AUS$103.84m) + add-ons.

I'll do an extra post taking a more detailed look at him.

Dodô

Domilson Cordeiro dos Santos, commonly known as Dodô, is a Brazilian U-23 international (5 caps) who plays as a right back for Ukrainian club Shakhtar Donetsk.

Spurs have had an initial €20m (£17m - US$23.47m - AUS$31.99m) bid for him rejected, but negotiations continue.

Bayern Munich have bid €25m (£21.27m - US$29.49m - AUS$40.02m) for him and that has been turned down also.

Igor Gomes

You probably haven't heard of 22-year-old (23 next March) South American jewel Igor Gomes, a Brazilian U-32 international (5 caps, 1 assist).

The São Paulo FC attacking-midfielder has been followed by West Ham and Liverpool and Spurs are reported to be ready to make a bid of just over the €10m (£8.51m - US$11.8m - AUS$16.01m) West Ham have gone in at.

There is no money in Brazilian football so the pandemic won't have done them any favours financially either.

Igor-Gomes
