Tottenham Talk on Friday 20th Aug on Pape Matar Sarr
A further post with news hot off the press of what appears to be an imminent signing.
Defensive midfield is a problem for Spurs, we don't have any strength in depth beyond Skipp and Højbjerg.
There are reports from Joris Crolbois and Loïc Tanzi, two journalists from RMC Sport, a French publication, that Pape Matar Sarr is leaving Metz.
He says that the transfer to Tottenham Hotspur is almost complete and that Sarr's entourage has just returned to Metz to complete the deal.
His sale means they can present that to the DNCG, like they sold Diallo last year to solve this season's financial problems. The price has therefore dropped to €10m + €5m in bonuses
Sarr has been the subject of interest from Manchester City, Chelsea and Manchester United and reports by the same RMC, in August last year, said the three Premier League clubs were negotiating a €30m deal.
"When you hear of a departure at 18 years old, it weighs on your mind," Metz head coach Frédéric Antonetti told the press after last Sunday's 2-0 away loss to Nantes.
He seems to have some filling out to do, unsurprising given his age so is certainly someone we would be looking to develop for the future but using in the UEFA Europa Conference League this season.
Spurs have yet to agree terms with the player but having already had discussions they were happy with a transfer to proceeed and ball park figures were agreed upon.

Harry Winks is suffering from the same problem Eric Dier had.
He no longer has the mobility to play at elite level in that position, since his freak ankle injury against Aston Villa in March 2018, which kept him out for 150 days.
We may well have to sell him for between £12m and £15m, although we want £30m for him. Everton offered £12m.
However, we also need to move Moussa Sissoko who is a hard worker (usually), who never complains, but the 32-year-old (33 next August) is not getting any younger.
Whichever one we do manage to move, although we'd prefer to move both, we want to bring in a quality defensive midfielder.
Pape Matar Sarr is an 18-year-old (19 in September) Senegalese international (2 caps) who plays as a defensive midfielder for French Ligue 1 side Metz.

His agent travelled to London earlier this week to discuss a deal. I'll remind you that Harry Winks unfollowed Spurs on social media earlier this week too.
Then on Wednesday, Spurs representatives travelled to Metz and met their representatives in a local hotel.
Metz are in financial trouble and desperately need to sell to help balance the books, a financial requirement in France every season. Clubs have to submit finances and how they are going to pay for the following season to the Direction Nationale du Contrôle de Gestion (DNCG).

Why are top clubs interested in Sarr?
He has good technical ability with box-to-box energy and great progressive passing. In three years he will become Association and club trained for UEFA competitions, even though he represents Senegal.
Sarr has a good shot from distance and the strength to be strong in the tackle, something Spurs are looking for.
He has the defensive ability needed for the role and at 18, may not have the problem that we have found in Capoue and Ndombele, an 'entitled to a place' without having to work for it mentality.
