Tottenham-Talk-Tuesday

Have you noticed how weight loss advertising is all about mentality now, the psychology of the act of eating against the need to eat.

While any of us could have told dieters for years this, it is only now that it is being accepted, understood and used to make a difference to people's lives.

It is the same with supporting Spurs, with playing for Spurs, mentality is absolutely everything, without it you win nothing, you achieve nothing in life.

It seems to be the time of year that journalists are taking guesses what Nuno Espirito Santo is going to do at Tottenham.

Some don't seem to realize he isn't our manager, but our Head Coach, others seem unaware that he doesn't have the major say when it comes to transfer, they don't seem to know what role Paratici has and they certainly don't know what is happening with our squad.

We HAVE changed the structure behind the scenes, roles HAVE changed, but that of course won't stop the anti-Levy crowd even though it's all down to Paratici now in consultation with Nuno.

But make no mistake, Paratici has power, he is not a puppet doing what others want, he left Juventus to come to us with the remit of building our squad to challenge and has the authority to do so.

Juventus, during his time, signed a lot of quality free agents on high wages and our interest in Barcelona midfielder Miralem Pjanić would seem to indicate that we won't be adverse to that policy either.

Pjanić is under contract at Barca until 2024 but they want his salary off their books. The table below shows you his historical wage including bonuses.

Former Hearts boss Ian Cathro has been announced as a new assistant head coach at Spurs.

He was an assistant to Nuno at Rio Ave (Portugal), Valencia (Spain) and Wolves (EPL) and is a bit of a taskmaster with fitness.

Tottenham have name ex-Gillingham, Ebbsfleet, Maidstone United and Dover Athletic midfielder Stuart Lewis as our new under-18s coach.

He was our Under-16 coach and developed, among others, Dane Scarlett and Harry White, both of whom we have seen in the first team.

Stuart-Lewis

Spurs academy manager Dean Rastrick said: “Ryan’s return to the academy allows him to continue his outstanding work as a coach and player developer - something he is passionate about - and with Stuart stepping into the role of under-18s coach, we have a strong leadership team in place to aid the progress of our young players as they make the transition from the youth phase into the senior end of the academy.

“Something’s that very important to us is that both Ryan and Stuart have come through the system here and they’re strong believers in our principles behind youth development.”

Daniel Levy

Tottenham have a requested a pre-season friendly against Real Madrid this summer because of a clause included in Gareth Bale's transfer in 2013.

It was a clause that guarantees a friendly between the two clubs and given that fans are now allowed back into the stadium in a couple of weeks, will guarantee a full house and generate commercial sponsorship.

It is a shrewd move by Daniel Levy to generate the maximum revenue when most pre-season friendlies this summer will be domestic.

This will generate worldwide interest and remind people that Tottenham are a top team worthy of playing the best in the world.

Strikers

Tottenham are being linked with plenty of strikers and it is being incorrectly reported that they are replacements for Harry Kane.

I will keep saying it, that is not the case, they are replacements for Carlos Vinicius who has left the club.

Tottenham have been linked with a move for 21-year-old (22 next January) Fiorentina striker Dušan Vlahović, but my understanding is that he wants to remain where he is and sign a new contract.

Milan Škriniar

I reported for you all the financial issues at Inter Milan in an article dedicated to the problem of the owners getting money out of China and the fact their sponsorship deals, which have funded them, will all expire when the Chinese owning group sell or lose ownership by default for failing to pay a loan back to an investment company.

It is a bit like going to the pawn shop, getting a loan and being unable to buy back your item, you lose it.

Anyway, that means Inter can not command top dollar for their players and they need to get earners off the wage bill.

That plays into the buying clubs hands and therefore, if we pursue our interest in 26-year-old (27 next February) centre-back Milan Škriniar, we do not have to simply pay their valuation of a reported €50m (£42.89m - US$59.33m - AUS$78.80m).

Fabio Paratici will undoubtedly try to push that figure down by between €5m and €10m (£8.58m - US$11.87m - AUS$15.76m) including bonuses.

Every club values players, then bids below that valuation to meet the selling club in the middle somewhere, as a selling club overvalues their player to begin negotiations.

Fans don't seem to understand the basic art of negotiation for some reason, as they all know it in any other walk of life.

Their brains seem to go out of the window when it comes to football.

Denmark will hold a press conference at Spurs facilities, a nice touch given our link through Christian Eriksen and now Pierre-Emile Højbjerg.

Mikkel Damsgaard

We have been watching 21-year-old (22 in July) Mikkel Damsgaard for a while and have been linked with him for the last couple of summers.

Once again that is the case, as reported a month or more ago, but this time these is more substance to the links.

Fabio Paratici is an admirer and had him as a Juventus target so now we are hoping his links, with Damsgaard playing in Italy for Sampdoria, enable us to snap him up.
