Tottenham Talk on Wednesday 28th

Tottenham-Talk

Good morning Tottenham fans and welcome once again (because he religiously read every article don't you) to Tottenham Talk on Wednesday 28th.

Standing a yard from the patio doors (can we have our measurements back now please) there was a black bird with a grey head eating from the suet balls ten feet away from me.

It instantly reminded me of the Hooded Claw from Wacky Races, a childhood programme some of you in the UK might remember.

Amazing what sparks memories.

In my Spurs chat section today I'll remind you all of something I wrote a while back that you may not have noticed.

It was when talking about the stadium, Daniel Levy, transfer purchases and as a part of that discussion I said it would take 4 years for the real benefit of the stadium to kick in and that has been delayed by the pandemic and an empty stadium.

The stadium gave an immediate boost to our finances and we climbed above Arsenal both financially and in the table. OK, we were already above Arsenal in Premier League position on the field but that has certainly been consolidated.

Look at Arsenal and they can't financially compete for the top players anymore so have slipped down the table.

Money is important.

THE CLUB have to generate more money in our SUSTAINABLE model with an emphasis on youth development.

Incidentally I'll go off on a tangent - we should be creating and selling more youth players.

The Academy should be sending more youngsters out on loan, as per Juventus and the clubs in Italy I talked about and have tie-ups with clubs in Spain, France, Germany and Italy, perhaps Portugal too, to send these youngsters to and develop them.

I'm sure a mutually beneficial arrangement could be made to help some struggling clubs out while they develop our talent with first team football.

We then have assets that are worth more and can be sold for greater prices in the transfer market.

But, back to the stadium.

The pandemic has hit Spurs like it has hit everyone else.

We need to recover financially.

Spurs need to stabilise financially, as well as improve the team, something Mourinho couldn't do.

So a full stadium will first, bring more income to stabilise and then kick in to allow us to compete on a more even financial position.

We have increased our income but so have others, Manchester United and Manchester City have over £200m more income than we do WITH a full stadium.

It's why we continually look to add revenue streams to finance the club.

We know, whether the anti-Levy lot want to admit it or not, that income from the stadium will be invested in the playing squad, it's what it was built for.

A proportion will go towards transfer payment instalments and a proportion into the wages budget.

Listening to talkSPORT and Simon Jordon, the guy who has been there and done it and talk from experience and common sense with a greater grasp of the business than any fan, said that it will take 4/5 years for the stadium money to kick-in.

Fans won't see that, they won't understand that, they don't want to understand that.

I found his argument to a Spurs fan to be brilliant.

Simply paying the Devil's Advocate he said if Spurs said OK, it's your club so we'll triple the cost of season tickets and we'll match that money and spend it all on transfers, would you pay it.

He of course knew the answer would be no, even though the caller tried to avoid answering.

No you wouldn't, he said, but you are asking someone else to dip their hand in their pocket simply because they have more money. It isn't Tottenham's money, it's his.

How would you like it if someone came along and told you how to spend your money, well I just have, and you don't like it.

It isn't Tottenham's money, it's his money.

This is the reality that fans just refuse to accept and Simon and I, unsurprisingly, are on the same page stating the same thing at different times.

What he says validates what I keep saying and demonstrates I know what I'm talking about to a far greater extend than these, what are effectively anti-Spurs promoters.

It was to be a short chat but once I've started...

Tottenham Transfer Talk

Where shall we begin, with a bit of fun I think. These two tweets appeared one after the other on my timeline.

Real-Madrid

A totally different take on the same situation.

My understanding is that Real Madrid have already stated and it has been reported in the Spanish press as such, that they will look to fill the gap left by the departure of Varane to Manchester United with talent already at the club.

They have to reduce their wage bill, they have been ordered to, plus pay back illegal state aid.

They are financially strapped at the moment so offloading some high earners and replacing them with financially cheaper options in terms of wages.

This is also the beauty of Paratici's deadline approach (see yesterday's article) where we are not dependent on players waiting for the possibility of other clubs.

This is your chance to join Spurs or say goodbye to it on XYZ date.

Érik Lamela

Érik Lamela had an up and down time at Spurs but after he sorted his head out having initially wanted to return to Italy, he always gave it his all and fought for the shirt.

Talented but frustrating. As with many young players, a show pony that had to learn there MUST be an end product to the crowd pleasing ego boosting show.

Thanks and best wishes.

Érik Lamela

Deju Ćaleta-Car

Marseille defender Deju Ćaleta-Car has agreed provisional personal terms for a move to Tottenham Hotspur according to Croatian news outlet SportKlub.

The two clubs have yet to agree a fee for the 24-year-old (25 in September) Croatian international (16 caps, 1 assist), while other sources say a £20.5m (€24m - US$28.34m - AUS$38.37m) deal has been agreed.

I would suspect the World Cup runner-up would only be a back up option should we not get Jules Koundé across the line now that Sevilla have sold fellow centre-half to Espanyol Sergi Gomez to Espanyol and Bryan Gil to ourselves.

This could be Paratici moving quickly to secure another target, we'll have to wait and see as it's another that has come out of the blue.

Let's not forget though, that he agrees deal with many clubs and players so that should one deal not go through he has a ready replacement with a provisional agreement already in place. That may be what this is.

Liverpool tried to buy him in January he revealed a month later but Ćaleta-Car and Marseilles decided staying put would be the best option for him.

Liverpool saw him as a back up in case of any injuries.

We can't rule out this being a leak to put pressure on the other clubs involved in centre-half deals to get them done as per Paratici's deadline.

Personally, I don't think there is anything in it yet.

Bryan Gil

Bryan Gil has been announced.

Sergio Reguilón has welcomed fellow Spaniard Bryan Gil to Tottenham with the message  “This club is amazing. You will love it.”

Bryan-Gil

While on the subject of Sevilla, you'll recall I have said several times that the Spanish club will put all the pressure they can on Jules Koundé to complete a deal to go to Spurs and ITK is now suggesting they are doing exactly that.

As they have just sold his centre-back partner to Espanyol, we will have to wait and see.

Franck Kessié

What did I tell you?
Speaking in an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport, AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessié has pledged his future to AC Milan.

Clearly the transfer talk was simply to get the contract he wanted out of AC Milan, which of course I twice reported to you.

“I’m proud to have chose Milan and it is not my intention to leave. Indeed, I want to stay forever. He also addressed rumours regarding his future by suggesting that sorting out a new contract is high on his agenda once he returns from the Olympic Games in Tokyo.

“When I come back from the Olympics, I’ll fix everything. I just want Milan. Sporting director Paolo Maldini knows my thoughts. I want to be the ‘President’ of Milan for life.”

Cristian Romero

Do you serious believe Fabrizio Romano is being told every hour of every day exactly what Tottenham are doing, how much we are bidding, come on people grow up.

Now we are supposed to have told him exactly what Plan A and Plan B are!

What will it be tomorrow?

The trouble is these guys need to tell you something new every day when in fact days go by with nothing happening, for instance when you apply pressure by making a club sweat.

You can be negotiating without actually doing anything!

The financial arrangements are NOT changing day by day.

The Cristian Romero deal is basically done and dusted, it's not finances holding the move up but Governing Body Endorsement (GBE) and a work permit from the Home Office.

This is taken from the Football Association (FA) website.

"Post Brexit, clubs will not be able to sign players freely from the EU. Players from EU countries who want to play in the Premier League or EFL will be required to gain a GBE, like all other overseas players without the right to work in the UK.

"The GBE will operate a points-based system, where points are scored for senior and talented young players based on:
• Senior and youth international appearances
• Quality of the selling club, based on the league they are in, league position and progression in continental competition
• Club appearances, based on domestic league and continental competition minutes

"Players accumulating the requisite amount of points will earn a GBE automatically, while players just below the threshold may be considered for a GBE by an Exceptions Panel."

Finally folks, I keep seeing Aaron Ramsey's name mentioned, Spurs are not interested in him at all, his wages are far too high for a player of his age.
