Tottenham Talk on Wednesday 21st

The-Magnificent-Seven

Good morning folks and welcome once again to Tottenham Talk on Wednesday 21st July, two days before international from the European Championships start to return to pre-season training.

I had a lovely day out Tuesday and thoroughly enjoyed seeing my grandson for the first time since coming out of hospital.

Transfer news broke while I was out so as we spoke about Spurs TV again yesterday, let's get straight on with the Tottenham Transfer Talk.

Tottenham Transfer Talk

It's the end of an era, it's the end of the Magnificent Seven.

I will repeat for the anti-Levy numpties, Fabio Paratici is dealing with the transfers in and out, not Daniel Levy, Levy is NOT doing the negotiations, that's the role of our Managing Director of Football.

I took a break from research for a morning and another strong rumour surfaces.

I said there would be more swaps, more loan deals with clubs having no money and we have had talk of two involving Tottenham already.

First it was Dávinson Sánchez plus cash for Jules Koundé from Sevilla and now it's Érik Lamela plus cash for Bryan Gil, also with Sevilla.

After Covid, Sevilla have got to cut their cloth and recover financially so reduce wages and bring in money.

Monchi is doing that for them by selling assets but, as we see, bringing in swap players to replace them.

This even reduces the cost they'll pay in agents fees with essentially one deal to do instead of two separate deals.

Érik Lamela is 29 years old (30 next March)
Bryan Gil is 20 years old (21 next February)

We get a younger right winger with a greater sell-on value and one with hopefully a greater end product than Lamela has provided us with since his arrival.

The Argentinian is in fact our third longest serving player after Hugo Lloris and Harry Kane.

Spanish international (3 caps, 1 assist) Gil is under contract at Sevilla until 2023 having come through their academy.

His Dad Alfonso, and Mum Raquel, moved to Sevilla when he joined the club and his little brother is now in the Sevilla academy too.

Gil's market value has risen from €9m (£7.79m - US$10.6m - AUS$14.47m) to €30m (£25.94m - US$35.33m - AUS$48.21m) in the last 12 months.

Last season, when Gil played on loan at SD Eibar, he impressed everyone and is now one of the world’s most valuable under 21 talents.

The fee €25m (£21.47m - US$29.42m - AUS$40.02m) plus Lamela who, with only a year on his contract, would be valued around €10m (£8.63m - US$11.80m - AUS$16.08m).

The tweet informing everyone of this deal by Fabrizio Romano has been liked by Sergio Reguilón, which would rather suggest it is authentic.

We would be swapping one non-homegrown winger for another.

Little Cryuff has superb close control and dribbling skills in tight areas so draws plenty of free-kicks, all we need now is a free-kick specialist.

LaLiga chances created in the past 2 seasons:
  • Bryan Gil 122
  • Lionel Messi 118
  • Luka Modrić 117
Yes that's right, this guy creates more chances than Lionel Messi!

This is Tottenham taking advantage of the economic situation to offload and bring in talent, while solving a problem for another club.

Most dribbles by players aged 21 and under in the top tier leagues (France, England, Spain, Italy, Germany).

  • Jérémy Doku (Renne) 110
  • Jadon Sancho (Borussia Dortmund) 77
  • Bryan Gill (Sevilla, loan at Eibar) 67

Wyscout list Gil as the 2nd best Under-23 player in LaLiga last season and is a player on Barcelona's radar.

Paratici believes Gil is a special player in the making.

Spurs have yet, as I write this, to agree personal terms, although that isn't expected to be an issue.

Spurs have offered a 5-year contract with a starting salary of around £41,095-a-week (€47,500 - US$55,976 - AUS$76,362).

Players then get a wage increase each season in return for signing a contract extension, if they don't sign they don't get an interest.

Compare this offer to the total Eibar player wage bill that was 299,540-a-week last season 259,137 - US$353,036 - AUS$481,541).

Gil's weekly wage from Sevilla in 2020/21 was €10,577 9,151 - US$12,465 - AUS$17,006).

You can see the offer Spurs are making is a huge increase on his current salary.

In addition, Lamela earns £82,000-a-week (€94,797 - US$111,723 - AUS$152,422) so Spurs are taking half of his wages on the wage bill.

All round this looks like a very good deal for Spurs.

Érik Lamela has agreed to join Sevilla, which means his agent will have already discussed terms that Lamela is happy with.

The big issue for Lamela is that he will get to play every week.

Dávinson Sánchez

This will not be the only swap deal this summer, we are trying to include players in our deals, as you saw by the Dávinson Sánchez story.

Incidentally, Sánchez has been offered to Fiorentina as part of the Cristian Romero negotiations.

You see, it is not just the fee we are interested in but can we shift some of our players as part of deals because most would rather stay now we have a new Head Coach, who the players have really taken to.

Harry Winks

With Spurs having tried to offload him and Winks now deciding he would rather stay under a new Head Coach, I think Winks will still be here at the start of the season.

Moussa Sissoko

Spurs 31-year-old (32 in August) midfielder Moussa Sissoko is wanted by Napoli (Serie A), OCG Nice and Marseille (both Ligue 1).

He wants to join a side where he will play every week and favours a move to Nice where he would be a homegrown player.

The French international knows he has to take a wage cut to play there but is happy to do so as he gets to his last few years.

Under contract until 2023, but 32 at the beginning of the season and wages to consider, I would think suitors would not want to pay too much more than €10m (£8.63m - US$11.80m - AUS$16.08m) for him.

We would probably want double that so may have to settle for somewhere in between, unless we can include him in another swap deal.

As you know, Sissoko asked to be allowed to leave the club in search of first team football and the club have confirmed he would be a squad player rather than a starter.

A parting of the ways is therefore by mutual agreement and his agent is working to find him an exit route.

Enjoy your day folks, I will.
