Tottenham Talk on Saturday 31st

Tottenham-dressing-room

Welcome to the growing band of readers of Tottenham Hotspur Blog News (THBN) and today's piece, the 7,490 article, Tottenham Talk on Saturday 31st.

Nuno Espírito Santo has installed a tactical layout on the floor of the Tottenham changing room.

I despair at some of the thing these journalists put out for clicks to create advertising impressions.

The Athletic tell us Spurs have told Sissoko, Sánchez and Aurier we would like them to leave. How very gentlemanly of us.

Actually Sissoko and Aurier asked to leave and we told Sánchez months ago to find another club.

Remember all the reports of Spurs telling several players to find new clubs?

Well Sánchez was one of them, Winks was another.

Oliver Sipp and Japhet Tanganga could go out on loan, no they couldn't, Skipp is staying, that is a definite.

Tanganga is 99% certain to stay unless an excellent opportunity with guaranteed playing time in the Premier League presents itself.

He is not interested in going to Turkey and as I revealed yesterday, this is the club he wants to be at.

We can't get rid of virtually all the centre-backs we have in one window!

Cameron Carter-Vickers, Dávinson Sánchez, Toby Alderweireld and Japhet Tanganga, would only leave Rodon, Dier, Romero when he signs and one other purchase.

One injury and we would be struggling, Davies isn't really quick enough to play their in the Premier League unless it is part of a back three.

Takehiro, who is still expected to arrive but Japan are still in the Olympics, could provide cover, but then depending upon who was injured, would that leave us vulnerable at right-back?

Dier looks like he is staying.

Romero is still expected to sign but as you know, Paratici has several targets, all with provisional agreements in place, that he can turn to if Atalanta simply refuse to release him and continue to play stalling games.

The problem is with Atalanta, not with Tottenham.

I repeat though, Romero will join Spurs.

Right, time for your Tottenham Transfer Talk.

Joe Hart

Remember Thursday I discussed various options for Tottenham to cover costs on Joe Hart, well on Friday, the Daily Record (Scottish paper) claimed we are asking £1m for him.

His remaining salary at the end of August, which he is entitled to as we are ending his contract, is £1.045m.

The fee, therefore, that we are asking would appear to cover any pay-off we pay the former England number one for departing, hence the requested £1m fee.

Troy Parrott

Troy Parrott had a medical at Milton Keynes Dons on Thursday ahead of his season-long loan to the League One side.

We took the time on Wednesday, when we played them in a pre-season friendly to finalise the deal.

Hopefully the fans who have been suggesting he and Dane Scarlett as back-up strikers will now understand that he hasn't progressed enough for even a Championship side to take him.

He was in need of turning his attitude and therefore mentality around but going on loan to a League One side suggests he has a way to go, having struggled in the Championship last season in his initial loan at Millwall, where he didn't score a league goal.

Well, since writing this he has now joined MK Dons with no recall clause in the loan agreement.

Merih Demiral

Spurs fans do like to panic but Fabio Paratici has outline personal terms agreements with several centre-backs, such as Juventus man Merih Demiral, who Atalanta are interested in.

Spurs have already agreed a 5-year contract with him an annual salary of €3m (£2.55m - US$3.57m - AUS$4.82m) which equates to £49,039 a week.

By having these various agreements in place, if he needs to turn to alternatives, he has half the negotiation already tied up.

He then simply has to agree a figure with the selling club and a payment structure, which in these financially troubled times is not as easy as it sounds.

Borussia Dortmund have offered €30m (£25.5m - US$35.7m - AUS$48.2m) for him, Juventus are looking for around 16% more.

From Italy is the suggestion that Atalanta are set to sign 21-year-old (22 next February) Verona centre-back Matteo Lovato

Agreement is believed to have been reached for an €11m transfer fee.

Nikola Milenković

Tottenham are talking with Fali Ramadani, the agent of Serbian international Nikola Milenković.

Fiorentina have put him up for sale for €35m (£29.83m - US$41.59m - AUS$56.36m) according to QS-La Nazione.

However, they are also trying to negotiate a contract extension with just a year left on his current deal.

Ramadani is also in talks with Juventus, who like us, see his current transfer value as more like €15m (£12.78m - US$17.82m - AUS$24.16m).

He has been tracked by Inter Milan, AC Milan, AS Roma, Napoli, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Manchester City, and Manchester United.

Italian media suggests he is looking for a new challenge and is keen to move on.

Player Sales

Next week Spurs hope to see some movement out the door with plenty of interest, which I have reported in various previous articles, in Moussa Sissoko, Harry Winks, Cameron Carter-Vickers, Steven Bergwijn, Dávinson Sánchez, Lucas Moura, Jack Clarke, Oliver Skipp (going nowhere) and Serge Aurier.

Tottenham Player Departures

  • Juan Foyth (£21,500 wages, transfer to Villarreal for £13.5m)
  • Toby Alderweireld (£80,000 wages, transfer to Al-Duhail SC for £11.7m)
  • Erik Lamela (£80,000 wages free transfer to Sevilla)
  • Danny Rose (£65,000 wages free agent moved to Watford)
  • Paulo Gazzaniga (£20,000 wages, free transfer to Fulham)
  • Gareth Bale (around £240,000 wages, end of loan, returned to Real Madrid)
  • Carlos Vinícius (£20,000 wages, end of loan, returned to Benfica)

The Tottenham player departures so far, are estimated to have reduced our weekly wage bill by £526,500 a week plus bonuses, so you can say around £1.03m during the playing period of the season.

Income from player sales £25.2m.

We have bought and will of course buy players whose salaries need to be offset against those figure to get a more accurate reading of where we are.

Bryan Gil (£41,500 wages, £22.5m transfer fee)
Pierluigi Gollini (£? wages, initial loan, option to buy)
Ryan Sessegnon (£55,000 wages, return from loan spell)

Then we add on potential signings and their salaries, plus of course more sales like Sissoko (£80,000), Winks (£50,000), Hart (£27,500) and possibly Aurier (£70,000), another £227,500 a week.

Currently wages are not an issue, we can bring players in from abroad who are on lower wages. It's the level of football and belief that the players can help Tottenham return to the Top 4 and the Champions League.

Get back there and then we have to establish ourselves there, which effectively is what the European Super League was all about, staying at the top table with the top clubs.

That has to be our aim.

Romero, for instance, we have agreed wages which are lower than we are paying Alderweireld now.

Incidentally, the issue there is not that we won't pay the fee, but Atalanta are demanding more now, they have moved the goalposts as it were. At the moment the guy is still a Juventus player on loan at Atalanta and Juventus want the money agreed for Atalanta to buy him.

Atalanta are holding up Juventus and haven't yet secured a replacement for Romero, so won't finalise the deal until they have reached an unofficial agreement.

The price was €50m, now it's €60m and we are not playing that game.

It will be done.

Caleb Chukwuemeka

Spurs have now made an offer of £1m + striker Kion Etete for 19-year-old (20 next January) Northampton Town centre-forward Caleb Chukwuemeka.

Aston Villa have had a bid turned down, while both Glasgow Rangers and Norwich City have been following his progress.

Chukwuemeka has refused to sign a professional contract at Northampton despite his youth contract running out in January report the Birmingham Mail, however transfermarkt have him under contract until 2022.

He is mentioned as a winger in some places as he has played their often as well, he can play anywhere across the front line.

James Ward-Prowse

Southampton have rejected a bid of £25m from Aston Villa for England midfielder James Ward-Prowse.

The 26-year-old (27 in September) signed a new deal last summer until 2026 and Southampton have no desire to sell.

Spurs are looking at him and considering offering Harry Winks, who the Saints have been following, in a swap deal.
