Saturday Transfer Talk
Well I have had this written for a couple of days now and as events are moving on thought I'd better release it before it becomes out of date.
You will all have noted that we have been linked with a lot of wingers and strikers recently, that is why, the club need to replace both players, NOT that Harry Kane is leaving and needs replacing.
While we have to consider the possibility, Daniel Levy doesn't want to sell is isn't going to accept silly £100m offers for him, the fee would have to be double that and in the current climate nobody can really afford that.
A reminder for all those with out of date thinking, owners can not give money for transfer fees, FFP prohibits it, it was amended to stop Sugar Daddy owners, which then president Michel Platini felt was unhealthy for the game forcing other club to overstretch themselves financially.
Clubs across Europe are looking to reduce their wage bill in these time, Juventus for instance would sell Ronaldo and it's other high earners, often signed as free agents.
Bearing in mind that was Fabio Paratici doing that, it will be interesting to see how he operates at Tottenham, now he controls transfers.
For those of you thinking Daniel Levy will still control them, Paratici wouldn't have left Juventus if he didn't have full control and was just a puppet.
But that's the problem with many of our fans though isn't it, they don't take the time to think, to understand, it's all silly knee-jerk reaction stuff.
I'll use two tweets from a journalist to highlight the point, not just a football writer, but a Chief Football Writer at that!
Nuno has been a manager for more than a year so what was his football like prior to that at Wolves, at Rio Ave, Valencia and Porto?
His ideology doesn't stem from one season at Wolves where Matt Doherty and Diogo Jota were sold plus Raúl Jiménez, their Harry Kane, was injured for all but 10 games.
Dan fails to take the time to understand, to look at things in context, to look at the bigger picture, just gives us the usual narrow minded knee-jerk thinking we see from fans on social media.
He compounds that with his comments about Gareth Bale.
Gareth Bale is not a Spurs player and Nuno is not in charge of transfers either.
In reality, a move back to Tottenham is almost certainly out of the question on his wages when there is rebuilding work to do elsewhere and thus possible pressure on wages if we go for a quality centre-back.
Secondly, we are being heavily linked with strikers and wingers which suggests, as already reported, that we have already made a decision on Gareth Bale not to pursue an extra year.
Bale himself, it has been suggested, wants to return to Real Madrid and play under Carlo Ancelotti.
There is nothing to indicate a potential return to Tottenham and so logically, looking at the bigger picture, there isn't a chance, apart from the fact that anyone can move anywhere, which you could apply to every player in the world.
Dan, again it appears, hasn't thought the matter through and that is the problem with some of our agenda driven fans.
After last season, where Bale didn't set the world alight and the European Championships where he only appeared in flashes, he no longer has the WOW factor that might, just might appease some fans if Kane were sold.
So even that doesn't appear as a possibility.
It is time for fans to change the way they think, it is time for them to seek out the positives and actually support the team on social media, as Paratici asks.
Just supporting on match day isn't good enough.
We are a big club with a sustainable financial future mapped out in accordance with Financial Fair Play rules, rules that are going to be tightened up after the pandemic.
UEFA have announced they will be stricter when they are amended, they are not being scrapped as some seem to think.
Sugar Daddies will still be prevented from giving money for transfer fees, I suspect their will be much tougher rules about paying loans back and rules surrounding wages relative to income.
Another Dan Kilpatrick post again shows a lack of thinking and perhaps a total misunderstanding of how Tottenham are going to operate given our new structure.
Dan doesn't seem to think Paratici has any real power, but is just a puppet for others, to do their bidding and just get the players they ask for.
There would be no point appointing him if that were the case, any one of our hierarchy can do that as can agents like Jorge Mendes who act as go betweens.
Daniel Levy will give financial input, but it is Fabio Paratici who will decide what players are bought to suit the clubs desired style of play that Nuno is being asked to work towards.
It will not be Nuno who decides who comes and goes, he will be given players to work with, who suit the style, by Paratici, more of a Head Coach than a manager role.
I don't think many of our fans have cottoned on to how we are going to do business yet and that should be part of a Chief Football Writers job to appreciate and understand that.
I repeat, Paratici has not left Juventus and joined Tottenham to be a puppet of the manager, but to build us a squad the way he built the Juventus squad.
Journalists seem to be stuck with traditional straight jacket thinking.
You will note Nuno is our new Head Coach, NOT our new manager, the title is significant, he has less control than Pochettino had for instance, was was Head Coach and then became manager with a bigger, indeed final say in transfer targets.
Not a role Nuno will have at Spurs.
Our fans are going to have to update their thinking and understanding of how the club is run, given our change to a more foreign approach.
Now I warned you all about Jorge Mendes and the way he works.
Fiorentina president Rocco Commisso has spoken about him on the club podcast and isn't happy how the agent operates.
As far as I am concerned, an agent should not be allowed to work for the selling club and the buying club on the same deal, there is a definite conflict of interest.
Neither should he be allowed to work for the selling club, buying club and player, made even worse if the manager or head coach is a client of his as well.
It isn't enough that they just have to declare the conflict of interest and then go ahead.
On 29 June 2020, Juventus announced that they had reached an agreement with Barcelona for the transfer of Pjanić in a deal worth €60 million, plus a maximum of €5 million in bonuses.
Fabio Paratici seems to be having an impact because he has convinced Takehiro Tomiyasu that Spurs should be his destination after he was set on Atalanta.
Transfer Talk Snippets
A few quick snippets to start.
Good luck to Steven Caulker, once of Spurs, after his move to Turkish giants Fenerbahçe.
Reports from Italy suggest Lazio asked PSG to pay €40/45m for El Tucu, better know by Spurs fans as striker Joaquín Correa.
Guillem Balague has selected 3 England players in his XI of the last 16, John Stones, Harry Maguire and Raheem Sterling.
Spanish specialist daily SPORT have suggested that Tottenham have asked to take Miralem Pjanić on loan from Barcelona.
Pjanić has been made available by the Spanish giants and Juventus have been looking to take him on loan as well.
The 31-year old (32 next April) Bosnian international (100 caps, 15 goals, 27 assists) central-midfielder has only been at Barcelona a year.
The Spanish club need to reduce their massive wage bill and have made several fringe players available, Pjanić only play 619 LaLiga minutes all season.
From what I understand, he prefers a move back to Juventus.
I see Fabrizio Romano is claiming Harry Kane will have a medical after the Euros with Man City and that €120m (£103.26m) is a done deal.
That's not what I am hearing and that also way undervalues him by at least 50% in our eyes.
We have moved into pole position to sign him ahead of Atalanta, but this is football so nothing can be taken for granted with the Italians having Champions League football next season.
On our side is the fact they they can not match the wages we can offer.
The latest is that Manchester United have phoned the Bologna chairman Joey Saputo to enquire about Tomiyasu.
Serge Aurier wants to leave, which we have known for several months now, so presumably if Tomiyasu arrives he will be departing.
I can't see Matt Doherty being sold, neither before Nuno arrived or after.
The Spurs squad needs a refresh and there won't be too many tears from our fans if Aurier is replaced.
The figure I hear Paratici needs to hit is €23m (£19.80m - US$27.24m - AUS$34.50m) including bonuses.
The latest I hear is that Bologna and Spurs have agreed a fee but not now to pay it yet but everyone expects the deal to happen.
AS reported last summer, Toby Alderweireld wants to end his career at Ajax and the club have known all season that he would be looking to leave this summer.
I see everyone is reporting this as fresh news, but in fact it is a year old!
