Tottenham Transfer Talk Wednesday

Tottenham Transfer Talk Wednesday

Harry-Winks

The pitch at Tottenham is currently being re-laid ahead of the new season, a far cry from the 70's when heavy muddy pitches were the norm, water on the surface etc.

Times have moved on and a lot more attention is paid to the playing surface to keep it in tip top condition today.

Good morning, it's Wednesday and welcome to Tottenham Transfer Talk Wednesday, which my detractors still read!

They have their anti-Spurs agenda, despite claiming to support the club, which they only do for a maximum of 90 minutes during a game, that's not support in my book, neither is it a success mentality.

It is the job of every fan to create the right environment and atmosphere surrounding the club to maximise our chances of success.

Anything less and you are working to achieve failure, thus you shouldn't complain if the club achieve what your lack of support deserves and helps to create.

That'll go over the head of them though, never mind.

The reality is we have only actually interviewed 4 candidates seriously, with initial conversations with others, like Gerrard to establish interest and requirements, like bringing assistants.

A normal interview process for a job that fans may panic about but that we don't actually need until around 12 July when international players start to return, once they have taken their holidays after the Copa America and Euros elimination.

Our fans don't seem to realize that clubs abroad work to a different model than English clubs, at least how they perceive English clubs to be run.

Abroad, a manager does not handle transfers, he doesn't even say what type of player he wants or even what style to play.

The club and Director of Football decide the style and the Director of Football buys players for that style.

The manager or Head Coach as they are known throughout Europe, has to work with what he is given.

Obviously there is talk amongst all parties but it's the Director of Football who orchestrates and the club hire a Head Coach that suits the style of football required.

The is greater emphasis on the manager over here but if we are moving back to the foreign model, as we used to operate with Paratici orchestrating affairs, then we need a manager who is comfortable with that scenario.

With no immediate rush, we'll see who that will be.

A day has gone by and it hasn't affected the club one jot that a manager hasn't been appointed, it is merely the egos of supporters, whose own lives aren't affected one jot either.

What is the difference between appointing a manager last week to next week, absolutely nothing.

Chill out people, there is more to life than getting your frilly knickers in a twist over a manager search when many a potential candidate, like Joachim Löw are still involved at the Euros.

Martín Satriano

Tottenham, Chelsea, Everton, West Ham and Arsenal are all interested in Inter Milan 20-year-old (21 next February) 'wonderkid' Martín Satriano.

The powerful forward scored 14 goals and provided eight assists in 25 Primavera 1 (Youth League) games.

The right-footed Uruguayan striker is also qualified to play for Italy.

His agent, agent Nick Maytum, has spoken to FCInterNews.it and told them that he is aware his client is being watched but that he is happy to stay at Inter.

“He is 100% focused on the Primavera. He knows he has to work everyday to improve and become even stronger.

“Then it is clear that Martin dreams of making his debut with Inter’s first team before the end of this season.

"He often trained often with Antonio Conte and his Serie A debut would be an important step for him, but obviously to get there he must keep working hard with the U-19s.

“I can only say that it is normal for the most famous clubs in Europe to follow the greatest talents who are shining in various leagues. It happens everywhere, even at Inter where it is no coincidence that every year they build a winning team.

“But these words of mine must not be misrepresented, nor should we speculate. Martin is very happy with the Nerazzurri, as can be seen from everything I have said."

Pretty clear he won't be moving anywhere this summer.

Frank Kessié

Tottenham have been watching 24-year-old (25 in December) Frank Kessié for several years now and he is coming to the end of his AC Milan contract.

The Ivory Coast international (44 caps, 3 goals, 5 assists)  central midfielder is under contract until 2022 so is entering the last year of his deal and will be available for free next summer.

It is unlikely AC Milan will let that happen so he could move on this summer.

His agent, Massimo Brambati, has confirmed that Spurs and Inter Milan are interested in signing his client via an interview with TuttoMercatoWeb.

“Today, having a contract expiring in 2022 with an important player, one of Milan’s strongest, is a danger. Here is a basic error by the club.

“Now [Kessie] is the one who holds the knife by the handle and can decide what is best for him rather than the club. I know that in addition to Inter there are two Premier League teams interested in him, including Tottenham.”

Inter have already signed Hakan Calhanoglu from AC Milan after his contract ran out and Italian national goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma is also leaving at the end of his contract for PSG.

The Italians are obviously in contract talks with Kessie but they haven't reached an agreement yet and it sounds to me as if they are using the media to put pressure on AC Milan.

The agent quotes smack of threat so I'd expect a deal to be struck keeping him there.

Sérgio Oliveira

Unreliable Portuguese newspaper O Jogo, who often invent stories like Lamela being for sale for £5m a few years back, suggest Tottenham could soon make a bid for FC Porto midfielder Sérgio Oliveira.

The 29-year-old (30 next June) Portuguese international (12 caps, 1 assist) central midfielder is under contract until 2023 and is a Jorge Mendes player.

Currently he is a little used (14 minutes across 2 games) substitute at the Euros, or he was until Portugal were eliminated.

Olivera has picked up 8 trophies in his career, 2 Portuguese titles, 2 Portuguese, Cups, 2 Portuguese, Super Cups, a Greek title and a Greek Cup.

He was recently linked with a loan move (January 2020) to Nottingham Forest in the Championship.

The latest news is that he is likely to go to Italy and join Fiorentina.

Last season he had a superb season scoring 20 goals and a further 7 assists, including 5 goals in 8 UEFA Champions League games.

Harry Winks

As reported previously, Harry Winks was seen house hunting and playing golf in the Midlands, suggesting a move to Wolves or Aston Villa was on the cards.

Former Wolves legend and former England international centre-forward Steve Bull was asked if Winks could replace 34-year-old (35 in September) João Moutinho.

He replied that he thought he was top class and would welcome him at Wolves.

Moutinho has been linked with a return to Porto and it seems 25-year-old (26 next February) is a prime candidate to replace him.

With Oliver Skipp returning to Tottenham next season, playing and developing him is likely to be one of the tasks assigned to a new manager.

Several players have been told they can find a new club and Harry Winks appears to be one of them, which is not a surprise given behind the scenes behaviour last season.

Manuel Locatelli

Again, while others were reporting Tottenham are trying to sign 23-year-old (24 next January) Manuel Locatelli from Sassuolo, I was telling you he wanted to join Juventus and Juventus were interested in signing him.

Well, nothing has changed, Locatelli, an Italian international (13 caps, 3 goals, 2 assists) defensive midfielder who has played three games at the Euros, scoring twice against Switzerland, is not yet talking with Juventus.

Juventus and Sassuolo plan to talk again next week with the Juventus offers currently considered too low. I'd expect them to eventually find agreement over a move to keep him in Italy.

Fabio Paratici may want to bring him to Spurs but it will be an uphill fight with the players understandable desire to join Juventus and play in the Champions League.

Transfer Payments

Many a fan think Daniel Levy is the only manager who makes responsible 'low-ball' offers for players, when in fact every club does it both home and abroad.

As mentioned Juventus have had more than one offer rejected by Sassuolo for Manuel Locatelli.

While chasing Giovani Lo Celso, we looked at an alternative, Bruno Fernandes, not our first choice as the anti-Levy smattering incorrectly claim.

We offered €45m plus €20m in bonuses, as confirmed by Sporting president Frederico Varandas.

“Twenty million in goals which were about Tottenham becoming the Premier League winners, which they never were, and winning the Champions League, which has also never happened. So I found these goals extremely difficult to accomplish. And I understood not to sell Bruno Fernandes.”

Arsenal are now trying to buy Albert-Mboyo Sambi Lokonga who is a Belgian who plays as a central midfielder for Anderlecht.

The Gunners offered less than €15m with bonuses that included winning the Premier League, so highly unlikely to be achieved.

Anderlecht want nearer €21m including realistic bonuses.

A deal will eventually be struck, but it demonstrates every club tries to buy cheap, sell high, it's standard business practice.

These fans who shout sell for peanuts and pay whatever are in a fantasy world, clubs can't operate like that, they have to be sustainable, they have to be self sufficient to abide by FFP rules, which will be tightened up after this Covid pandemic is over.

Haris Seferović

The next name off the conveyor belt of players we have been scouting is 29-year-old (30 next February) Swiss international (77 caps, 22 goals, 9 assists) striker Haris Seferović.

He doesn't seem to fit our young player DNA and would surely decrease in value in a couple of years so I can't see this one going anywhere, unless as a back-up striker.

The Benfica man under contract until 2023 scored twice to knock the French out of the Euros on Monday and is worth €20m-25m (£17.19m-21.49m).

Uğurcan Çakır

According to Turkish news outlet Sporx (Turkish reports are generally unreliable), Wolves have joined Tottenham in the hunt for Turkish international (11 caps) goalkeeper Uğurcan Çakır.

Çakır is just one of several goalkeepers Spurs are following for when Hugo Lloris departs, whenever that may be.

The 25-year-old (26 next April) captains Turkish Super League club Trabzonspor and is being followed by a host of clubs including Lille, Liverpool, Inter Milan and AC Milan.

Turkish sources, who indicate the club are in financial trouble and need the transfer fee, are looking for €20m (£17.19m - US$23.78m - AUS$31.65m) for their highly-rated stopper.
