Perception or Truth

Perception-or-truth

"It is not a matter of what is true that counts, but a matter of what is perceived to be true."

That quote from former US Secretary of State, Henry Kissinger was his cynical take on politics.

But apply it to football and particularly to Spurs fans and it seems to be depressingly accurate.

We live in a current world of undeserved reputations.

Go to Twitter and you see fans quoting, what they call the Dybala debacle, yet it is a known fact that the matter was totally out of our hands, the player has admitted that himself.

Yet the perception of our anti-Levy fans is that its his fault.

Then there is Jack Grealish.

New owners were in the process of negotiating to buy Aston Villa and they stated that if he was sold they would not buy the club, so he was never actually for sale in reality.

That fact is ignored and Levy blamed.

The new stadium is to generate the funds for transfers but due to Covid is empty and not earning, yet that seems to be Levy's fault.

An owner is not allowed to give money to buy players or pay wages, yet the anti-Levy crowd believe others owners do (which they don't) and blame ENIC.

All those perceptions are wrong, yet they are all perceived to be true.

That, for those of us who take time to understand and research, is frustrating.

We have seen protests because of these incorrect perceptions.

Even the Tottenham Hotspur Supporters Trust (THST), who ought to know better, have fallen into the same trap.

Nobody knows what is happening with Conte because Daniel Levy is not telling the press, nor is he phoning everyone on Twitter and telling them.

Conte isn't telling anyone either, the negotiations are completely private.

Journalists guess and fans perceive their guesses to be true, when in fact they are simply idle speculation.

It is how Alasdair Gold has built a following.

It is perceived he has contacts or the club put news out through him when in fact they don't, he simply gives you his opinion.

"It is not a matter of what is true that counts, but a matter of what is perceived to be true."

What will be will be so let's simply wait and see who we eventually appoint as a manager.

It doesn't bother me as it isn't something I can affect.

If you can't affect something it is pointless worrying about it, it's a waste of energy and never brings positive results for your health or happiness.

Putting your perception into the existing belief system you have built will give you the perception of truth that you want, yet only facts are reality.

Your perception should be based on facts, correct facts, not incorrect perceptions that fit your belief system agenda.
