Hugo-Lloris-Update

Hugo Lloris and Mauricio Pochettino were very much on the same wavelength at Tottenham and now that our former manager is at PSG, it is natural thee is speculation.

Hugo's form declined, he began making lots of mistakes, leading to goals and dropped points, although many of our fans pointed elsewhere to centre-backs.

A goalkeeper commands his area, when he stops doing so he is half the keeper he was and the defence are under greater pressure with more work to do amid uncertainly, a recipe for mistakes.

It is widely thought that Lloris has already agreed to join PSG, which makes sense since they are the Premier French team, he is the national goalkeeper and captain, he is a homegrown player who doesn't diminish the squad but adds to it.

He is 34-years-old (35 in December) too so to finish his career in his home country makes sense, plus he is guaranteed to win trophies there, with little to no competition.

Spurs have, therefore, been looking for a replacement.

I take issue with Football.London again writing an article, as they regularly do now, purporting to be the truth about XYZ, when in fact they are anything but, they are merely their opinion articles, not at all based on any information.

They claim Spurs would have to spend big to find a keeper of that quality but that simply isn't the case.

That demonstrates a lack of understanding of transfer business and player valuations.

Mourinho has been urged to sign 25-year-old (26 in July) Lille goalkeeper Mike Maignan.

As reported in L'Equipe, João Sacramento, who worked as a video analyst at Lille for 2.5 years, and Nuno Santos, who coached him from July 2019 to November 2019, have been encouraging José Mourinho that he is the man to take over from Lloris.

They say the pair believe his potential is enormous and now is the time to sign him.

Well half of Europe thinks so too, indeed some feel he will be the next top keeper in Europe.

Maignan only has a year left on his contract, so will be available at a relatively cheap price, between £15.74m (€18.5m - US$21.75m - AUS$28.61m) and £21.28m (€25m - US$29.37m - AUS$38.56m) are the figures being suggested.

That's a snip for a top keeper, way cheaper than Pope with no loss in quality. He isn't extending his contract and Lille can't afford to let him leave for free.

Lloris has a year left on his contract too so if we want a fee for him we need to sell him this summer.

What could we ask, £12m (€14.10m - US$16.56m - AUS$21.75m) and remember another French homegrown player, Serge Aurier (Ivory Coast captain) would love to join PSG too.

A double deal makes sense, given the fact we have Japhet Tanganga coming through who Mourinho sees as a right-back.

Selling both would pay for Maignan and the wages saving would pay his wages and leave some left over too.

There is another option, that is to keep Lloris for another season and let him leave as a free agent next summer.

Now why would we consider doing that?

Well, André Onana, 25 on 2nd April, will be a free agent that summer.

He is currently serving a 12 months drugs ban, which ends of February 22nd 2022.

His contract ends in June 2022.

It's an option.

Onana came through the Barcelona academy and was valued at £40m (47.02m - US$55.11m - AUS$72.59m) at one point.

He's a highly rated keeper.

As we saw for England, Pope is a liability with his two left-feet so it is no wonder we are looking elsewhere at cheaper, but better options.

Quite why some Spurs fans complain at that is somewhere beyond common sense.
