Are Spectators Important or just Cash Cows?

Tottenham Hotspur vs. Brighton & Hove Albion
Match Report - Sunday November 1, 2020
Teams are struggling, Spurs are not alone.
What we are seeing is the effect of no fans in the stadium.
We are seeing the impact they have and it's significant.
There is an opportunity here for Spurs supporters who attend games.
They matter because they are now proven to affect the result.
Players are having to play in empty stadiums, like Sunday park footballers, just in better facilities.
It is all down to individual players right now and who can motivate themselves with no fans to boost their ego.
There are more goals in games where the players are not as motivated and therefore not playing at the level they would normally play at with a crowd.
That tells us a lot about the mentality of each player and managers should be making a not of those who maintain their level during this time and those who don't.
Those who do are better at motivating themselves and they are the players you want, the rest are weaker mentally and therefore replaceable.
When a player scores a goal, does he turn to his teammates and celebrate or does he run to the camera for his ego boost?
He isn't running their for your benefit, he is doing it so you will idolize him and offer praise to him, even though he can't see or hear it.
He isn't doing it for entertainment, he is shouting, me, me, me, it's all about me.
Now, some can motivate themselves to play and enjoy playing, some need the adulation for motivation and without it, can't produce the same level of football.
I wrote years ago and Mourinho repeated it in a recent press conference, each game is only worth three points.
Those who can motivate themselves best during this time are the sides who will win.
Home advantage has gone out the window.
There is no crowd baying for blood, it's just 11 vs 11 playing Sunday morning football for higher stakes.
Do you worry about going to an opposition's ground, no.
Do you feel you have an advantage at your ground, generally, no.
What did Brighton have to fear with no crowd there?
Nothing.
The game was simply that they had more of the ball, but we did more with it.
I could easily write a long piece about this, but the simply question is are clubs, will football bodies, give more importance to the paying fan?
I think not, but no fans has surely given all clubs and the ruling bodies a kick up the backside.
They, and incompetent referees who make decisions that are not in accordance with the laws of the game (foul on Hojbjerg for instance), do have a big bearing on the outcome of a game.
Fans do make it tougher for the away side, that is evident from the results.
