Spurs Transfer Tittle Tattle

Hello once again folks on what looks to be a rainy day, drizzling at the moment down here.

Another game out of the way which created some talking points but we'll look at the Spurs Transfer Tittle Tattle.

Something to bare in mind this window is the loan situation.

It will be changing next season after a FIFA proposal to stop top clubs stockpiling players, thus spread them around more evenly.

Juventus generally have around 50 players out on loan or part owned at other clubs while Chelsea have 28 players out on loan.

FIFA have proposed this be reduced to 8 loan players to include loans in and loans out.

It will not affect academy players as to begin with it is for international loans for players 22 and over.

In 2022/23 they propose a reduction to 6.

Countries would be expected to adopt similar rules for domestic loan deals within 3 years.

Currently any number of players can go out on loan but at Premier League level only 2 may come in on loan at any one time and only 4 per season.

Currently on loan we have Gedson who we have the option of turning into a permanent move next summer should we choose to do so.

He looked better in pre-season and is a highly talented player so this season will be an important one for him to push on,unless we cancel his loan, which would be a surprise.

We also have Gareth Bale on loan from Real Madrid so that is the maximum we are allowed at the moment.

This tells you that everyone reporting we have offered a loan deal for Milan Škriniar has to be wide of the mark unless we are returning Gedson to Benfica.

Talking of Benfica, they have turned us down over Rúben Dias but there is still plenty of time for renegotiation given Benfica have pressing financial issues with no Champions League revenue, they need to raise money this window, however their valuation is a distance from ours.

Income
Kyle Walker-Peters £12m
Total Receiving £12m

Outgoings
Pierre-Emile Højbjerg £15m
Sergio Reguilón £27.38m
Matt Doherty £15.12m
Joe Hart FREE
Gareth Bale FREE LOAN
Total Spent £57.5m

How much of this is spread over several payments over several seasons for Sergio Reguilón for instance which reduces outgoing this accounting year?

Kim-Min jae is very much on the back burner now.

I think the game against Everton shocked everyone and showed improvements were needed now, not later.

That game looks to have clearly had an effect on our transfer business.

Gareth Bale was opportunistic and only happened because Bale wanted to return and Real Madrid simply wanted him out the door as soon as possible.

We have a fantastic deal for him which we can extend by a year should Bale be happy.

We enquired about Sergio Reguilón and that deal was done fairly quickly.

Now it is being reported in Italy that we have agreed terms with Milan Škriniar, whether that is true or not I don't know but we are certainly apart on price.

They are asking for a reported £54.8 million (€60m - US$69.94m) while we are more £36.53 million (€40m - US$46.56m).

It has taken a while but it does look as if we are going to get Milan Škriniar.

We are also in discussions with Norwich City for 22-year-old (23 next January) homegrown centre-back Ben Godfrey and with West Ham for 23-year-old (24 next January) French centre-back Issa Diop.

Both of those were listed in the article on the list of centre-backs we were interested in way back at the beginning of June.

Striker wise, we have spoken to Celtic about Odsonne Edouard but they are pricing him out of a move at present, Habib Diallo remains an option, 32-year-old (33 next June) Islam Slimani at Huddersfield (formerly Leicester City) has been considered but only as a fact finding level.

I'm not sure why people have been talking about 28-year-old (29 next February) Haris Seferović at Benfica when it's his teammate 25-year-old (26 next March) Carlos Vinícius that we are really interested in, but like Dias they are asking too much at the moment.

I didn't bothered to mention 24-year-old (25 in December) Norwegian striker Alexander Sørloth who the press were all over but was always going to the Bundesliga with RB Leipzig.

Personally, I think we are waiting to see what we have to spend on a centre-back and the homegrown situation before we sign a striker.

Having said that and despite what Alasdair Gold is trying to tell you, Spurs are negotiating with Napoli for Milik and those discussions are ongoing.

We have two things in our favour negotiating with Inter.

Firstly the fee for Christian Eriksen was probably not one lump sum but instalments, as most transfer fees are and secondly as a part of the deal we get the full proceeds of a future friendly game between Inter and ourselves (don't know whether that is home or away).

We could therefore wipe out the money Inter potentially owe us plus an agreed amount for the future friendly so we could be talking over £10 million (€10.93m - US$12.77m).

We still have to move some players out, either with loan fees or outright sales.

If loans then I'd expect us to calculate what a player costs us a year and ask a loan fee that covers that minus the players wage they would be expected to cover.

Thus a player on loan doesn't cost us anything.

Talking of loans going out, Burnley, Aston Villa and Brighton are all rumoured to want Ryan Sessegnon on loan for the season, which would give him the game time he needs.

I'd expect us to ask for £3-4m for a season-long loan.

10 days to go and a lot to happen still.
