More Transfer Tittle Tattle

Spanish newspaper Sport are reporting that Spurs bid for Lucas de Vega was turned down but that we will be returning with an improved offer for Barcelona B prospect.

The highly-rated 20-year-old (21 next January) Brazilian has been chased by a host of clubs including Sporting Gijon, Malaga, Tenerife, and Real Zaragoza.

Thought to be interested in a move to the Premier League and to Spurs to work with José Mourinho, he impressed on loan at Segunda Division B side Cartegena last season.

There are huge obstacles to any deal.
1. Spurs have bid €2 million (£1.8 million) up front
2. Barcelona want at least €4 million upfront
3. Barcelona want an additional €4 million in add ons

And the biggest of all:
4. Barcelona want their usual buy-back clause to be included in any deal given his huge potential.

Obviously we do not entertain buy-back clause as it would mean we are essentially developing a player for someone else rather than ourselves.

If we buy a player, we must have control over his future, not another club have control.

We rarely get a player from the two big Spanish clubs for this reason.

Barca have apparently said he is not for sale and will be playing for Barcelona B next season, yet are still happy to talk money which doesn't add up.

His release clause is €100 million.

That should tell you everything you need to know about release clauses in Spain and Portugal, they bare no relation to market value, they are just to tie a players hands and prevent them leaving, as we have just seen with Lionel Messi.

Our doom and gloom panic merchants who can't handle fear and up in arms (aren't they always about something) because we haven't signed a striker yet even tough the window doesn't shut until 5th October.

David Ornstein have written and the gullible have lapped it up, that Spurs do not have a striker or strikers in mind which is totally untrue.

Of course, he may not know have been informed that we are in discussions with strikers, hence the fake news but it is all in hand so there isn't really anything to fret about.

Kane, Son and if need be Moura, Alli or Bergwijn can all do a job against weak opposition, afterall Spain played and won the European Championship Final 4-1 without a striker and Barcelona adopted the tactic too.

A striker will come in obviously.

Spurs Fixtures
Sun 13: Everton (H) - Kane
Thu 17: Plovdiv (A) - Kane (45 mins)
Sun 20: Southampton (A) - Kane
Tue 22: Orient/Plymouth (A) - Rest Kane
Thu 24: Europa League (A) - Kane (possibly rest )
Mon 28: Newcastle (H) - Kane
Tue 29: Carabao Cup - Rest Kane
Thu 01: Europa League - Possibly needed/possibly not
Sat 03: Man Utd (A) - Kane

Kane will be needed for the Premier League games but he can easily be managed through this period given the weakness of some of the fixtures.

I'm still expecting the arrival of Kim Min-jae.

My guess at the first week of August was out because the Chinese refused to release him.

They also changed their transfer window rules for this season, shutting down in August and creating a third transfer window in September.

The club are confident of him arriving but negotiations with the Chinese are apparently difficult with two different cultural mentalities engaged.

Plenty of strikers apart from Habib Diallo still on the possibles list like:
  • 21-year-old (22 in October)  Patson Daku (RB Salzburg, Austria)
  • 21-year-old (22 next June) Rafael Leão (AC Milan)
  • 21-year-old (22 next January) Donyell Malen (PSV)

Arek Milik
Negotiations between Napoli and Roma have not resolves the issue, not have negotiations between Roma and Milik so he is now turning his attention to his other options and that means Spurs potentially.

His is not a world beater, just a name that has been bandied about a lot this window and is thus more of a name in supporters eyes.

Early in the window it was reported that he was Mourinho's first choice and had we rushed in ti overpay for someone else, we may not be in a position where his reported first choice becomes a viable option.

He only has a year left on his contract having refused to sign an extension so his original €50 million price tag was never realistic.

Time pressure will bring that down as will the unwillingness of clubs to come anywhere near it.

The latest news from the Italian media is that Napoli are looking for €33 million for him even though he only has 10 months left on his contract.

That needs to come down further, Eriksen cost €18 million with 6 months left before a pandemic decemated club finances around the world so really that figure needs to halve.

I will say there has been nothing on Napoli-based Radio Kiss Kiss who have a Radio Goal sports broadcast on the station, this week with Ciro Venerato, a Rai Sport journalist.

We, apparently, are his third choice and it has taken this time for his two preferred options to fall by the wayside.

If only the 20-somethings and 30-somethings understood the transfer window, but they don't.

I don't understand people who wake up and wonder what they can complain about Spurs today rather than wondering what they can support.

We'll sign a striker when everything falls into place, when the cogs of the wheel meet to unlock the vault.

Have we come down to two of the three strikers I highlighted Habib Diallo, Arek Milik (Artem Dzyuba)?
