Tavares loan with option to buy at £13.51m

Tomás-Tavares

Hello once again, a short Tottenham Tittle Tattle post this evening with a few rumours flying around at the weekend and a game to take a look at as well.

We have the usual situation where every newspaper wants to come up with a new name and one such this weekend is Benfica right-back Tomás Tavares.

No, not a member of the 70's pop band, bet that has jogged a few memories, but a 19-year-old (20 next March) Portuguese U-21 international (2 caps).

He has the height we are looking for at 6'2" (1.87m) so someone might be on the ball here.

He isn't a name I have heard mentioned but then we have lists of players in each position we are interested in at reasonable prices so filling the positions isn't going to be the concern it perhaps has been to some fans in other windows.

Tavares started his football career at Benfica in their youth system.

He signed his first professional contract with the club on 2 July 2018 and made his professional debut with Benfica B in a 2–1 LigaPro win over U.D. Oliveirense on 23 August 2019.

On 10 September 2019, Tavares made his senior debut starting against RB Leipzig in the UEFA Champions League, a game Benfica lost 2–1.

He made his Primeira Liga debut as a 12th-minute substitute in a 1–0 home win over Vitória de Setúbal on 28 September 2019.

Far too early in his career to read anything into his stats and I'd have thought we are watching him to see how he develops rather than with a view to signing him this window.

While the Mirror suggest Atalanta are looking at him, Boavista (founded on 1 August 1903 by British entrepreneurs and Portuguese textile workers in Porto) are in talks with him over a loan move report the Portuguese press.

I have also seen reports AC Milan are watching him too and I have also seen a report in Portugal suggesting he could be on the way to Tottenham on a season long loan with an option to buy set at £13.51m.

£13.51m
€15m
AUS$24.69m
US$17.69m

I believe the Mirror story emanates from an A Bola story, not a particularly reliable source.

This is the same paper who suggested Erik Lamela was being sold for £5m one year after we had bought him for £30m!

Does that put their information into perspective?
