Sessegnon and Pizzi

Sessegnon-and-Pizzi

Morning folks, hope you are enjoying your Sunday morning, we it is complete now my article is here.

Windy but warm out yesterday and snow in New South Wales, Australia with one reporter saying it was the best story she had ever covered, guess that tells you how rare it is.

For many it will have been the first time they have seen snow, the first time children have been able to make snowmen and go tobogganing.

I found a stream with some foreign commentary, no idea what language, but that allowed me to concentrate on the game and not the commentators or ex-pro's often biased opinion.

Watching it, what it did was raise one big question for me.

It wasn't Bayern Munich, Juventus or Real Madrid, no disrespect, it was Ipswich Town and Ryan Sessegnon wasn't seen anywhere near left-back.

Have we given up on the idea of him being an attacking left-back?

Have we now decided the former Fulham youngster is now a winger and we'll develop him in that position?

My reasoning for thinking this is not just this game, but the fact that we are actively looking to offload Erik Lamela, even though Mourinho like him and the fact that we are now also looking to bring in a new left-back.

Sessegnon was given plenty of time in a more attacking role, indeed scored the first after just 6 minutes.

A lofted pass by Dele Alli, a bit of a miscontrol that wasn't latched onto by the League One defenders and his reverse shot when slowly into the corner.

I know these games are a fitness exercise and players often play out of position just to get some game time but surely, if he was going to be a left-back we would have seen him in the role at some stage.

I know we rate Sessegnon, think that he will turn into a top player when he develops, both physically and mentally so maybe he is to take the place of Lamela or perhaps we are looking for an experienced player for a couple of years while he develops?

Transfer News

If newspaper A Bola are right, and the Portuguese press are not exactly reliable, Spurs have asked about 30-year-old (31 in October) Pizzi, a right-sided midfielder from Benfica.

Pizzi

Luís Miguel Afonso Fernandes

Position: FW-MF (CM-WM)  ▪  Footed: 87% Right*

172cm (5'7½") 66kg (146lb)

Born: October 6, 1989 (Age:30 years 321 days)(Age: 30-321d) in Bragança, Portugal pt

National Team: Portugal pt

Club: Benfica

The Portuguese international has 14 caps for his country, scoring 3 goals and having 2 assists.

He was the Portuguese leagues, Liga NOS, second top scorer with 18 goals with an additional 14 assists and in 2017 was the Portuguese Footballer of the Year.

Pizzi has won:
1 UEFA Nations League Trophy
1 UEFA Europa League Trophy
4 Portuguese Championships
1 Portuguese Cup
2 Portuguese League Cups
3 Portuguese Super Cups

Safe to say he has some winning experience and with José Mourinho clearly looking to bring people in with a proper winning mentality instead of this feeble try to win a football game mentality, he seems to fit the bill.

Pizzi played at Spanish side Atlético Madrid, although he only make 16 appearances, so has spent experienced the expectation a big club has and the pressure to produce that it provides.

His statistics look good, he clearly knows where the goal is.

Reports suggest Spurs have made a €15m offer with Benfica looking for 20m.

£13.51m - 18.02m
€15m - 20m
AUS$34.69m - 32.92m
US$17.69m - 23.59m

Pizzi earns €5m salary at Benfica, which equates to £66.62K per week.

It would seem to me that we have determined, apart from Son Heung-min, our wide men do not score enough.

Erik Lamela banged them in in Italy but isn't doing so in the Premier League and perhaps we are trying to revamp our wide department.

Pizzi would simply take over Lamela's wage so there wouldn't be an adverse effect on our wage bill.

One non-homegrown out, one non-homegrown in.

It would create a front three who can all score goals rather than relying on Kane and Son.

A front three would make us a more threatening prospect to defend against.

This story seems to fit in with our transfer business this window so  it may well have legs.

Enjoy your Sunday folks.
