Marcel Sabitzer

Marcel-Sabitzer

An additional Tottenham Tittle Tattle article today in response to a request on this sunny day after the rain of yesterday, still it saves watering the plants doesn't it.

Lovely bit of mice and pasts last night and there is still more left so add in some peas and that is tonight sorted on top of some penne pasta, which reminds me I must make some macaroni for pudding, can't stand it with cheese, not right, not right at all.

Anyway good folk and the not so good folk, onto this evenings topic, Tottenham transfer talk.

I have been asked once again about Austrian international Marcel Sabitzer, the RB Leipzig midfielder and whether Spurs will sign him.

Sabitzer is a 26-year-old (27 next March) right winger who can play centrally in midfield with 42 international caps under his belt, scoring 7 goals.

He is under contract until 2022,he is very interested in playing in the Premier League and is interested in playing for Spurs.

Do Tottenham hold an interest?

Yes, we have spoken to him, yes, we do have an interest in him,but will RB Leipzig want too much for him.

It is thought the German Champions League semi-finalists wants in excess of £30m for him.

Their business model is to buy players cheap, develop them and move them on for profit without much homegrown development of young players, which goes against the whole German ethos and why they are a hated club in Germany.

They are an advertising tool for the drinks brand, thus Sabitzer will definately be available for the right price, whether that is our price is another matter.

It would probably take a loan deal with option to buy to secure him or money raised from the sale of another and Tanguy Ndombélé looks to be one of few who could raise that sort of money.

Overall he is ranked 14th out of 273 creative players and 20th out of 922 midfield and attacking players in the top 5 leagues in Europe.

That gives you a good indication of his importance.

He finished 6th in the Bundesliga for passes into the penalty area (57).

He finished 10th for shots (71).

He has above average passing, the number of shots he has is above average, above average goals per shots and shots on target.

His G+A and overall chance creation is above average.

He doesn't dribble a lot but is above average when he does.

He gets a lot of touches of the ball in the defensive and mid third of the pitch making him important in build up play and his ball retention is good.

Defensively his tackling stats are good and he is above average for interceptions for a creative midfielder, although he is below average for his pressing so an area to work on.

Sabitzer, as his figures suggest, is an above average player in most areas of the game.

He progressoes the ball, is an incisive passer, contributes goals and is efficient defensively.

So what are the chances of a transfer?

Slim i'd say.

There were newspaper report in March suggesting interest but nothing concrete this time around and you must remember tabloid tactics.

Before a game a newspaper will take a player, preferably a major player and create a story around them, often a false transfer story and often to the opposition.

They see this as relevant and feeding a large pool interested in the game, truth takes a back seat.

He was asked about Spurs interest in March and guess who we were playing in March!

“Oh, I’m basically open to everything. I have nothing to rule out. We will see.

“I have been able to play in England a few times, including with the national team. I was thrilled by the atmosphere in the stadium. How the spectators read the game and celebrate the individual scenes, the fans really know about football.

“There was sometimes a tackle celebrated, sometimes a diagonal ball. I like to watch the Premier League and imagine that playing there is fun.”

Nothing very specific there at all just a general acknowledgement of the game in this country ahead of a tie against us.

Transfer depend upon what we can raise and that's why it is sellone buy one at the moment while keeping a tight reign on the controlling factor at the moment, wages.

Selling Aurier not only frees a non-homegrown space, but it frees up wages as well and the same applies to Tanguy Ndombélé.

I'm not getting excited by these rumours.
