Spurs Chasing Two Strikers

Spurs Chasing Two Strikers

Good evening folks, well it is here on the Kent coast where it looks as though we will have a decent day tomorrow.

In Tottenham Tittle Tattle tonight we take a look at two stories, each  involving a striker that Spurs are interested in.

Tottenham have offered 16-year-old (17 in October) Stoke City U-23 striker Mohamed Sankoh a deal as we look to win the race to land the young Dutch forward.

That race includes a host of clubs that include Chelsea and Atlético de Madrid. Sankoh will qualify as homegrown if he remains under the English Football Association for another two years, even though he is a Holland U-17 (3 caps, 1 goal) and Holland U-18 international (3 caps, 1 goal).

He was born in Sierra Leone so could still represent them.

In March last year he played as a centre-back in an U-17 international against Czech Republic in the UEFA European Under-17 Championship qualification.

Why is there a race?

Probably because he has scored 18 goals in 23 games U-18 games for the Potteries club.

Former Lokomotiv Moscow chief executive Ilya Gerkus has said he knows for a fact that Tottenham made an approach for 31-year-old (32 in August) striker Artem Dzyuba in January.

"I know this is not bulls***, I know his agent, the man who did this. I know what Mourinho wanted Dzyuba. I know this for sure. Mourinho knows who Dzyuba is!"

Russian captain Dzyuba is thought to favour a move to the Premier League once learning of Spurs interest and has made it clear he will not be signing a new contract at Zenit.

We spoke to him in January and he isn't signing a new contract, is that coincidence?

It isn't an easy move to finalise, few Russian players make it to the Premier League but we do have history with Sergei Rebrov and Roman Pavlyuchenko.

Dzyuba led the line well for Russia at the last World Cup in his home country where he showed his heading and his finishing were of a quality we could use.

He stands 6'5" (1.96m) tall, has strength, bravery, a good leap, good concentration levels and is a good team player to go with his heading, finishing and penalty taking ability.

He would really give us an aerial threat, the sort of threat we had when Peter Crouch was taking us into the UEFA Champions League under Harry Redknapp.

I could see Harry Kane being able to play off him if required, given his adaptability so he wouldn't be just a backup striker. The more I think about it the more it becomes a sensible option.

His weaknesses would include agility, acceleration, crossing and dribbling, the things you would expect of such a tall man.

The striker becomes a free agent this summer and therefore a move to the Premier League would not only give him a fresh challenge, but he'll get a wage increase while keep our wage bill under control.

Fmdataba.com suggest his current wage is £2.88m (€3.2m - AUS$5.24m - US$3.62m) which equates to £55,305 (€61,539 - AUS$100,727 - US$69,650).

You can see him being given £65,000 (€72,287 - AUS$118,346 - US$81,828) at Spurs.

That would make him a lot cheaper than Olivier Giroud but without the proven Premier League goalscoring record, however he is younger.

This story is an interesting one.
