Marcus Edwards back at Spurs

Marcus Edwards back at Spurs

Spurs are negotiating to buy a certain Marcus Edwards from Vitoria de Guimaraes for £16.37m (€18m - AUS$29.44m - US$20.20m) according to TodoFichajes.

They suggest negotiations are at an advanced stage, which would scupper Manchester United;s chances of signing him.

I believe Spurs had a 50% off clause inserted in his free transfer to them if we bought him back.

The problem he had at Spurs was a mental one, his attitude was I deserve a place so I shouldn't have to compete with others to be selected, the same with so many "entitled" youngsters today.

Instead of learning their trade, they run away to Germany, some play, some don't like 20-year-old Reo Griffiths who moved to Lyon on a free transfer and hasn't played.

Or 21-year-old (22 next March) Kenan Bennetts who moved to Borussia Mönchengladbach and has played 1 minute and been on the bench twice.

He has only played 2 Bundesliga West games (88 and 61 minutes) scoring 1 goal.

Marcus Edwards now hopefully, has got his head on properly and understands you get what you work for, not expect things to be just given to you.

Under-23 players with the most goals in Liga NOS (G + A) in 2019/20

1. Toni Martínez: 11 (9+2)
2. Trincão: 11 (8+3)
3. Pote: 10 (5+5)
4. Marcus Edwards: 9 (5+4)
5. Galeno: 8 (5+3)
6. Filipe Soares: 8 (4+4)
7. Anderson: 7 (7)
8. Lincoln: 7 (1+6)
9. Kraev: 6 (5+1)

Talented, if he has bulked up and has the right attitude then he could not only be a cheap option, but a good one to and another one of our own.

Poch wanted to keep young players at Tottenham which is fair enough but it can stifle.

As I wrote a few years ago, we should have tie ups with teams in Holland, Belgium, Germany, Spain, Italy and France to develop youngsters.

WE should be looking to help these clubs by loaning out quality youngsters to get first team football

Then, when they get to about 22 make a decision on their future, will they make it at Spurs or do we sell them.

Clubs are cash strapped around Europe, even before the pandemic, it just seems to make sense to help them out and help ourselves at the same time, a win-win situation for everyone.
