Ligue 1, Free Agent, Keepers

Ligue 1, Free Agent, Keepers

Morning folks, after looking at how Tottenham's transfer window is likely to pan out in the last article (link at the bottom of the page), Tottenham Tittle Tattle today begins with French football and news of a PSG youngster we are tracking.

Lille manager Christophe Galtier has been interviewed by Canal Football Club, a French TV program running since 2008 and commented upon the troubled transfer market in French football.

"There's only one Ligue 1 club currently not forced to put players up for sale, and that's of course Paris Saint-Germain. Everyone else must do exactly what we're doing. They just don't dare to acknowledge it."

That is why Premier League clubs are constantly linked wiuth players from France, perhaps more than usual this summer.

On that theme, Adil Aouchiche has told PSG that he doesn't feel a part of their project and that he wants to play so will be leaving on a free transfer.

Who is he?

He is a 17-year-old (18 in July) France U-18 international (12 caps,2 goals) attacking-midfielder valued by Transfermarkt at £4.86m (€5.42m - AUS$8.88m - US$6.13m).

At the 2019 European Under-17 Championships he was the top scorer with 9 goals beating out-and-out striker and another player Spurs are tracking Odsonne Edouard of Celtic.

Yet Aouchiche was playing as a central-midfielder with defensive duties!

His national coach, Jean-Claude Giuntini, said of his protégé's performance. "He is no normal player."

At the U-17 World Cup in Brazil he was allowed to play further forward in his favoured position as an attacking midfielder wearing the #10 shirt (the number he favours) and in 6 games had 6 assists, scoring 1 goal himself.

He was voted the second best player of the tournament.

Aouchiche began training with the first team last summer and became the youngest PSG debutant when he made his debut on Matchday 4 starting against Metz  and playing 65 minutes aged 17 years, one month and 15 days.

He has been in 4 squads but they are his only Ligue 1 minutes.

Loïc Tanzi is a daily reporter for RMC and he comments that;
“Adil Aouchiche is better when he plays behind the striker. He's not very tall, but very quick, he understands the game and has the right timing when it comes to playing the final pass.”
He is a very skilful dual footed youngster who is expected to go to the very top of the game, but is not happy at PSG and will be having further talks with them as well as fellow Ligue 1 side St. Etienne.

As you would expect, he is tracked by clubs across Europe and Spurs are no exception.

You can be sure we will be making contacting to sound out the possibility of a move to Spurs, as will many many others.

It is reported Barcelona, Real Madrid are monitoring his situation and that Italians Fiorentina have already made him an offer, something his entourage deny.

Moving on to goalkeepers, the press have been telling you about.

Michel Vorm will be leaving once the season ends and Spurs will require a third choice keeper.

Do we use a youngster coming through like 21-year-old (22 in October) Alfie Whiteman, buy an experienced third choice, re-sign Vorm or buy a future number one?

We still have the uninspiring Paulo Gazzaniga but I can never get over the lunacy of the Chelsea game. If that is in his mental make-up then it will come out again when under pressure.

A keeper who is afraid of getting hurt isn't a keeper I want to see between the sticks.

We are watching many keepers as you would expect but with funds tight I think others areas will take priority this summer.

Pau López who we came close to signing but when that fell through he went to Roma.

They now value him at £28.67m (€32m - AUS$52.38m - US$36.25m) which suggests a missed opportunity for us.

Transfermarkt value Spanish international (2 caps) López at £17.1m (€19.08m - AUS$31.23m - US$21.62m).

We continue to watch him but that isn't the bracket we are looking in for a goalkeeper at the moment while Hugo Lloris is at Spurs.

We are tracking many goalkeepers like Dean Henderson at Sheffield United on loan from Manchester Unites.

He has extended his loan spell until the end of the season and I'm told he is probably signing another loan deal with them next season.

Transfermarkt value the Keeper Ole Gunnar Solskjaer expects to become Manchester United and England number 1 at £13.05m (€14.56m - AUS$23.84m - US$16.5m).

Another keeper we are tracking is Aralanta stopper Pierluigi Gollini, the 25-year-old (26 in March) Italian international who is valued by Transfermarkt at £11.7m (€13.05m - AUS$21.38m - US$14.79m).

If Roma lose Lpoez then they will seek to replace him with the former Aston Villa and Hellas Verona goalkeeper who is also followed by AC Milan and Inter Milan.

Atalanta value him in the £22.2m (€25m - AUS$40.93m - US$28.32m) range.

Who else are Spurs watching?

  • Ajax goalkeeper André Onana has been watched but the Ajax asking price of £26.7 million (€30m - AUS$48.73m - US$33.61) is too steep.
  • We hold an interest in 19-year-old (20 in August) Bosnia and Herzegovina U-21 international (1 cap) goalkeeper Adnan Kanurić, who is currently contracted to Slovakian side SKF Sered having moved from Stoke City in February.

    He is valued at around £5m (€5.58m - AUS$9.10m - US$6.28).
  • Sevilla are the favourites to sign highly rated Trabzonspor goalkeeper Ugurcan Çakır because he wants to be first choice and play immediately, something he can't do with Hugo Lloris in the way but he is a keeper we have been watching extensively.

All but one of those is more than we want to pay this summer so options in the keeper department are limited.
