A CB and a CF

A CB and a CF

Good morning folks and welcome to the blog that goes where other blogs won't go, away from what is regurgitated in the media.

Today from the overcast Kentish coast, well talk front and back, central defender and centre-forward.

Recently I was asked about the rumours of Spurs being interested in Stefan Savić so I wrote an article explaining all.

For newbies I'll cut and paste the relevant section.

The current story is a mixing of stories really.
  • Savić's agent has said his client would leave Atlético de Madrid if a decent offer came in, meaning come and get us, we want more playing time or as a message to Diego Simeone to play him more.
  • Secondly Spurs track him and each time we are in the market for a centre-back we enquire about his potential availability and the ball-park financial requirements to buy him.
  • Thirdly a reporter, this time working for Todofichajes creating a story that Tottenham need an experienced centre-back with Vertonghen leaving so suggesting that could be filled by Savić.
  • Thus a rumour is born that Spurs want Savić, that José Mourinho wants Savić, that Daniel Levy doesn't want to pay the £13.48m (€15m - AUS$24.98m - US$16.64m) Atlético de Madrid want, despite that being an imagined figure itself, but that is another story in itself.

The latest news is that is agent, Zarko Pelicic, is now saying his client will be staying at Atletico Madrid which just shows it was simply a publicity stunt to put pressure on Atletico to move nearer to the demands Savić was making.

A story that never was,the way the press work nowadays I'm afraid.

An irresponsible striker who never grew up is available on a free transfer, could Mourinho harness him?

Personally I wouldn't want him at the club, he doesn't have the values we need and could be a disruptive influence, he was at Italian club Brescia.

Mario Balotelli is the man in question.

The 29-year-old (30 in August) Italian international is now a free agent, after Brescia owner Massimo Cellino rescinded his contract due to his continued lack of discipline, say newspaper La Repubblica.

Balotelli regularly didn't bother to turn up for training.

Now there is a player who needs regular sessions with a sports psychologist as nobody has bothered to find out what motivates him. He doesn't know himself clearly.

Would he behave better at a bigger club? Does he see Brescia as too small for him to bother with?

In 36 internationals for Italy, he has scored 14 goals and had 4 assists with 9 yellow cards and 1 sending off for two bookable offences.

He started 62% of games, he played 60% of the minutes and had a goal participation score of 22%.

It is 10 years since he joined Manchester City and made an impact.

Aug 2015 AC Milan (loan)
Jun 2016 Liverpool

How would his ego take playing, I was going to say in front of 60,000 fans, but in front of nobody?

I think if someone could harness him they would have a goalscorer on their hands, he has the ability, he just needed the direction that football doesn't give, but should give in my view.

Mourinho has managed awkward figures, could he handle Balotelli?
