Virus to wreak havoc for Spurs summer transfer market

Latest Coronavirus spread map with thanks to The New York Times

People have stopped buying Corona, the mentality of the human race today makes you despair at times.

Anyway onto the football.

The virus pandemic is going to play havoc with the summer transfer market.

All football is suspended, well virtually and there are travel restrictions in place. Some areas are in lockdown.

Not much scouting going on is there!

Scouting departments can pour over data and watch endless games on video, but that is all a precursor to sending a scout over to watch in person, which simply isn't going to happen for the rest of the season, if there is a rest of the season.

The European Championships will be cancelled, arguments will about what to do with the season.

You can't award trophies because you feel someone deserves it, utterly irrelevant and you can't relegate a side who might have had a tougher set of fixtures than a team you allow to stay up.

By the same token, you can't promote sides that way either, it makes a mockery of the competition.

I am in agreement with Spurs and West Ham's request to the Premier League to null and void the season.

Back to scouting.

How much have clubs done? The players we are interested in have been watched, but do we have enough data now to make a decision?

Are we still unsure about certain players or have we simply not seen enough of certain players?

What do we do, take a guess?

I'd suggest this transfer window is going to be a lot more of a hit and miss affair in general.

There might even be players further down our potential list that we haven't even cast an eye over yet, although generally, clubs prefer to watch a player over an extended period of time to see how they react to many different situations.

If the summer transfer window was now, how prepared would clubs be?

They can't scout first hand much anymore.

Will transfers this summer be more hit and miss?

Does Harry Kane want to leave?

Does Hugo Lloris want to leave? Quite frankly he hasn't been good enough for quite a while now and needs to be replaced anyway.

Is Jose Mourinho happy?

Did he, like everyone else including our own supporters, overrate our squad?

I informed someone before the season that we were not the third-best squad in the league, which they didn't like.

We knew how to play a system, that's all and we don't have the players lined up to seamlessly slot into that system as I outlined we needed before Mauricio Pochettino arrived.

I ama staunch Daniel Levy supporter but he has helped cause the problems we now find ourselves with.

It is now like starting from scratch again and building a squad suitable for the way Mourinho wants to play.

The break will allow Mourinho to effectively have a pre-season with the players and instil in them how he wants them to play. That can only help us next season.

Now is not the time to panic.

Now is the time for rational decisions.

From what I understand our transfer policy is not going to change. We are not going to go out and buy finished articles unless they come cheap. That means sourcing players coming towards the end of their contracts.

Stay safe everyone, yes, even my haters.
