Tottenham Transfer Talk on Thursday with THBN

The last article talked about how Spurs can improve each player and indeed how you can improve your own life.

These things are proven to work but are dismissed by Sunday morning footballers who are not prepared to do what it takes.

Have a read, it could just change your life.
5 Ways To Improve Spurs Immeasurably

Scouting

Tottenham scout David Pleat was at Brentford to see them defeat Stoke City in the FA Cup 3rd Round on Saturday, which Brentford won 1-0.

I'm afraid I can't tell you who he was watching.

Central-Midfield

There is a lot of talk about various clubs being interested in taking Adrien Rabiot on loan with a view to purchasing at the end of the season including Tottenham, Arsenal and Everton but Juventus have no interest in letting him leave.

The only club they will offer him to is Manchester United as part of a deal to bring Paul Pogba back to the club.

Centre-Back

It has been suggested that Spurs have made a formal offer for AC Milan captain Alessio Romagnoli.

The 24-year-old (25 in 4 days) Italian international (12 caps, 2 goals) centre-back is being followed by Barcelona and PSG. He is under contract until 2022.

Importantly, he is left-footed and can also play left-back, which would seem to indicate that we are looking for a replacement for Jan Vertonghen, who as you all know has not signed a contract extension so could leave for Ajax in the summer.

Right-Back

Tottenham are looking to offload Kyle Walker-Peters who I have been suggesting for a long while simply isn't good enough for a club with our aspirations. Clubs generally do not want to buy in January though and only look for loan deals in so I'd expect to him join a fellow Premier League club on loan.

We would prefer a homegrown player and we all know we are watching Max Aarons but there is no mileage in Norwich City selling him in January.

Staying in the Premier League is worth more to them than the extra they can get selling him now instead of the summer. If you also take into account Norwich would earn an extra £2m for each place they climb the table, he could help them offset the difference anyway.

It was suggested to me on Twitter that Norwich were in financial trouble, well that isn't the case as their turnover last season was £33.7 million (€39.64m - AUS$64.21m - US$44m) and they get around £100 million (€117.63m - AUS$190.59m - US$130.57m) in three payments from the Premier League this season.

Huddersfield received £96m (€112.94m - AUS$182.88m - US$126.32m) last season and finished bottom.

If Norwich were relegated they would get parachute payments for the following 2 years of £54 million (€63.53m - AUS$102.87m - US$70.49m) and £45 million (€52.94m - AUS$85.73m - US$58.74m).

The East Anglia club expect to make a minimum of £20 million (€23.52m - AUS$38.10m - US$26.10m) profit this season.

There is no urgency to sell Aarons, indeed it could be detrimental to them.

Nélson Semedo is a possible alternative we are looking at, a player Jose Mourinho has tried to sign before.

The 26-year-old (27 in November) Portuguese international (14 caps) is a right-back (although he can play left-back) at Spanish giants Barcelona.

He has started 11 of the 16 LaLiga games he has been available for and all 4 Champions League games he has been available for.

On £90,000 a week, he has 3 assists and 3 yellow cards. In 102 Barcelona games, he has scored just one goal and has 8 assists.

Defensive-Midfield

There is a report in Croatia from tPortal that mentions Spurs, no more than that, as having recently started taking an interest in Croatian youngster, Ivan Lepinjica.

Description

The 20-year-old (21 in July) is a defensive midfielder standing 1.9m (6ft 2in) tall playing for HNK Rijeka in the Croatian league.

The report talks about clubs from Italy and England watching him including Juventus, Udinese, Atalanta, Sampdoria, Fiorentina, Leeds United, WBA and Chelsea.

They go on to say Chelsea have made an offer of between £2.55 million (€3m - AUS$4.86m - US$3.33m) and £3.4 million (€4m - AUS$6.48m - US$4.44m) with the club wanting £4.25 million (€5m - AUS$8.10m - US$5.55m).

tPortal suggest that the Croatian U-21 international (5 caps) can play a variety of roles from attacking midfield to centre-back.

Jose Mourinho does seem to have a preference for taller defensive midfield players to aerially protect the centre-backs at the moment, thus maintaining a solid defensive structure from long balls by the opposition keeper.
