Tottenham Transfer Talk on Sunday with THBN

Tottenham-Transfer-Talk

I notice our fans are now warming to the player I was saying all summer is going to the top of the game, Giovani Lo Celso.

He has the vision that a creator needs and hopefully can simply slot into Eriksen's position once the Dane leaves.

Regarding January transfers, fans need to remember that we only have two more Premier League games, Watford away and Norwich City at home. Arguably that gives us a little bit of time to complete deals.

Having said that Gedson Fernandes has chosen Tottenham over West Ham and the deal with Benfica is expected to be completed next week. He is reportedly coming over to finalize terms which have been agreed with his agent in principle.

I reported yesterday on this and listed several reports, this was one of them and the one I believe to be the accurate one.

Benfica needs to sell so they have accepted our bid, which might actually be even a little bit lower, around £30.65 million (€36m - AUS$57.94m - US$40.03m) after his loan period finishes.
  • Tottenham want an initial 18-month loan deal with a £33 million (€38.74m - AUS$62.37m - US$43.09m) option to buy
That will leave us with no places so to sign a striker we have to sell Eriksen.

Japhet Tanganga will sign a new long term contract soon and it looks as though he has a big future in front of him. He impressed both Jurgen Klopp and Jose Mourinho on his Premier League debut.

Spurs are watching 22-year-old (23 in October) Brighton centre-back Ben White while he is on loan at Leeds United. Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United are also both watching him.

Right-Back

Whilst Spurs are in the market for a right-back, we play more with wing-backs. Our targets are not available this window so it is likely we will wait until the summer to sign someone.

Barcelona offered us Nelson Semedo, rather than Spurs seeking him out, but we would want a loan option rather than having to buy. He isn't our first choice right-backs anyway.

Our list of right-back options includes:

  • Youcef Atal 23 (Nice) Algerian - non-homegrown - injured and Nice don't want to sell
  • Max Aarons 20 (Norwich City) English homegrown but Norwich do not wish to sell
  • Nathan Ferguson 19 (WBA) English but WBA do not wish to sell
  • Ricardo Pereira 26 (Leicester City) Portuguese - non-homegrown but Leicester do not wish to sell
  • Djed Spence 19 (Middlesbrough) - English
  • Nordi Mukiele 22 (RB Leipzig) French - non-homegrown
  • Mehmet Zeki Çelik 22 (Lille) Turkish - non-homegrown
Before we look at strikers, let me remind you we can only sign one non-homegrown player this window unless we offload other non-homegrown players and one that looks like he might be leaving is Christian Eriksen.

He has reportedly agreed terms with Inter Milan on a three and a half year deal and there are suggestions they are prepared to pay our asking price of between £17 million (€19.96m - AUS$32.13m- US$22.2m) and £20 million (€23.48m - AUS$37.8m - US$26.11m).

PSG are also interested in him. They had tried to include 28-year-old (29 in August) Matías Vecino in the deal but we want a cash offer.

Description

That would allow two non-homegrown players to be bought in, Gedson Fernandes and a striker.

Strikers

Our list of striker options includes:

Description

  • Krzysztof Piątek 24 (AC Milan) Polish - non-homegrown
  • Paco Alcácer 26 (Borussia Dortmund) Spanish - non-homegrown
  • Victor Osimhen 21 (Lille) Nigerian - non-homegrown
  • Moussa Dembélé 23 (Lyon) French - non-homegrown
  • André Silva 24 (Eintracht Frankfurt on loan from AC Milan) Portuguese - non-homegrown
  • Description

    Vedat Muriqi 25 (Fenerbahçe) Kosovan - non-homegrown
  • Gabriel ‘Gabigol’ Barbosa 23 (Flamengo on loan from Inter Milan) Brazilian - non-homegrown
  • Christian Benteke 29 (Crystal Palace) Belgian - non-homegrown
The first thing you will say is Christian Benteke, surely not. He has been offered to us rather than us enquiring about him and we have told them we are not interested at the moment.

Well, he is a fall back option if all else fails and it would be a loan with an option to buy so we can have a look at him first.

I consider him to be a one-trick pony requiring aerial balls and crosses, but we are playing longer now so an alternative when things are not going right?

He has lost all confidence so that would need restoring and going on old form would certainly make a reserve striker but is he mentally strong enough to handle the role and maintain form?

Hopefully, we will be able to conclude a deal for one of our other targets though.

Lyon striker Moussa Dembélé is probably too expensive. If we bought him it would leave us with less money for other targets and there are various parts of the side that need strengthening.

We are looking for loan deals while clubs are looking to sell.

AC Milan wants to sign right winger Matteo Politano from Inter Milan who wants to sign Christian Eriksen.

Tottenham want to sign Krzysztof Piątek from AC Milan while Napoli have also now also come in for Politano (loan with option to buy) which may put pressure on AC Milan depending upon how keen they are to secure his services.

Roma are also keen on AC Milan right-winger Suso who is having a poor season although there is one report that suggests Milan technical director Paolo Maldini has blocked a potential swap deal involving Suso and Cengiz Ünder.

Does that mean the deal for Politano is not close or he wants greater competition for places? Is there any knock-on effect on the other deals?

What has all this got to do with Spurs?

Well, AC Milan have no money, they have spent over £366.06 million (€430m - AUS$692m - US$438.12m).

on transfers, coaches, administrators, directors over the last couple of years and can only really do loan deals at the moment, hence they need to sell players, rather than loan them, which means we could perhaps get a deal for Piątek at a rock bottom price.

That would allow us to take a chance on him, assess him for the rest of the season and if it doesn't look as though he is going to be a success, although we all hope he would be, sell him in the summer without losing money.

That would give AC Milan money to buy Politano and a meeting has been scheduled for next week between Inter and AC Milan to discuss a potential deal again.

Verdat Muriqi has reportedly told his agent that he would like to work with Jose Mourinho while reports in Germany suggest Paco Alcácer would like to move back to Spain.

Spurs have offered sixth place Ligue 1 side Lyon, Victor Wanyama as part of a deal for Moussa Dembélé.

We'll see what develops next week.
