Tottenham Transfer Talk on Saturday with THBN

Gedson Fernandes has been offered to several London clubs with Benfica president Luis Felipe Vieira would rather hoping to sell the Portuguese international (2 caps) in January suggests O Jogo.

The unreliable Portuguese newspaper, who are basically a sales tool for Portuguese teams, says the 21-year-old (22 next January) central midfielder is available for £34.05 million (€40m - AUS$64.37m - US$44.48m).

Let's be clear, he is being offered to clubs as opposed to clubs approaching Benfica to sign him, although all the top clubs have been scouting him for quite some time, including Spurs.

Fellow Portuguese side Sporting appears to be in financial difficulty again and is looking to sell their main asset Bruno Fernandes, who is being hawked around Premier League clubs too. Some are getting mixed up I fear.

It is a report on beIN Sports that says the agent of Bruno Fernandes is in London talking to a London club.

Take your pick from the Gedssn Fernandes talk:

  • West Ham United have agreed on an 18-month loan deal with Benfica in principle with no option or obligation to buy
  • Chelsea have made an initial 18-month loan offer with an option to buy which could lead to a £55 million (€64.57m - AUS$103.95m - US$71.81m) move provided he plays at least 50% of their games
  • Tottenham want an initial 18-month loan deal with a £33 million (€38.74m - AUS$62.37m - US$43.09m) option to buy
  • Tottenham have reached an agreement with Benfica (Platforma Media) for an 18-month loan with a £50 million (€58m - AUS$94.5m - US$65.29m)
  • Wolves are leading the chase to sign Gedson who is linked with an 18-month loan deal say Portuguese newspaper O Jogo (who can not be believed)
  • Everton are leading the race for Gedson

Any potential move will probably be dependent on Christian Eriksen moving to Inter Milan, with neither Barcelona or Real Madrid showing any interest in him this window.

The boat for Bruno Fernandes has gone I expect. While Sporting were stubborn over price in the summer they are now under pressure to sell but circumstances are no longer right for us with other priorities and the non-homegrown quota hampering us.

From what I hear he is going to be at the game today and will assess our interest. Tottenham have no interest in paying around the £60 million (€70.44m - AUS$113.39m - US$78.34m) that Sporting wants.

His agent spoke to Ed Woodward (Manchester United executive vice-chairman) hence the press all shouting a deal is imminent, oblivious to the fact that agents talk to several clubs to gauge interest and negotiate potential deals in principle.

When that process is concluded then the player, his agent and the selling club will consider their options before deciding which move is, they feel, in the best interests of all parties.

Because of the long term Hugo Lloris injury, Tottenham re-signed Michel Vorm as cover.

The Dutchman has been injured himself also but his signing took up a non-homegrown place in the squad so we only currently have one non-homegrown place available this window unless we sell a non-homegrown player, probably Christian Eriksen or Victor Wanyama.

This is a major factor in who we can sign at the moment and a striker is now the priority to take that one place. That leaves no room to sign Bruno Fernandes when we need a central midfielder to replace another long term injury to Moussa Sissoko.

Not forgetting, of course, that Tanguy Ndombélé is carrying a groin injury that needs managing until he can have some extended rest.

Even more important that we have cover for that position rather than attacking midfield where we have Giovani Lo Celso adapting to the Premier League and starting to show signs of promise.

Ben Davies will be returning next month to provide competition for Jan Vertonghen at left-back or left side of a back three.
