Tottenham Transfer Talk - Eriksen and Gabigol Update

Tottenham Hotspur Blog News (THBN) is ahead of the game again as so often is the case with news breaking now about Inter offering Tottenham Gabigol for Eriksen.

Negotiations between the two clubs begin in earnest over the next couple of days with the goal of quickly finalizing a deal for Eriksen after sounding each other out over what might be possible.

As readers know, Inter offered us Matteo Vecino, which we were not interested in but 23-year-old (24 in August) Gabigol is a striker we have followed since he was first in Brazil and came to prominence as a teenager.

Spurs chief scout Steve Hitchen took in the Copa Libertadores semi-finals between Flamengo and Gremio (Oct 3rd and 24th) while on a South American scouting trip so Gabigol is a player on our radar and he was casting his eye over 22-year-old (23 in May) central midfielder Gerson too.

Inter chief executive Giuseppe ‘Beppe’ Marotta is confident Gabigol will be sold this month and Flamengo wants to sign him permanently. They had an agreement in October that the figure would be around £13.62 million (€16m - AUS$25.75m - US$17.8m).

But, reports from Brazil suggest Flamengo are turning their attention to Pedro at Fiorentina. His salary demands are understood to have proved to be an obstacle for the Rio de Janeiro based club.

Elsewhere you will see false figures of £20 million (€23.48m- AUS$37.81m - US$26.11m) being quoted when in fact that figure should be in euros, thus Inter are looking for a fee in excess of £17.03 million (€20m - AUS$32.19m- US$22.24m).

That figure amazingly ties in with the sort of figure Tottenham are seeking for Christian Eriksen.

Given that Flamengo can't afford him we may be able to pick up a bargain.

Obviously, if we can tie up a deal then we won't be bidding for Krzysztof Piątek of AC Milan, that is why that deal isn't progressing as fast as some would like. We have plenty of irons in the fire.

Tottenham primarily wants loan deals this window with rebuilding in the summer but a swap deal for Eriksen, possibly with some cash too for a former Brazilian wonderkid might be good business.

We do not want to be going out splashing the cash when Harry Kane will return and take over duties, thus we need a cheap replacement until April and possibly a player who could then also play with him long term.

If a signing doesn't work out we would need to offload them in the summer bt with loan deals with an option to buy we can just send them back.

It is the same reason we often can't sell players because that is the type of deal other clubs want while we want a player off the books permanently with a known income amount.

It also needs to be someone who happy to come to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium knowing when Harry Kane is fit he'll be back in the team and thus may have to accept rotation, spells on the bench, cup games and cameo roles.
