Christian-Eriksen-Transfer

As ever, for many of the Spurs fans it is all about how much you spend, not what you spend it on. I'd rather we buy the right players, like Son, Lo Celso, rather than a household name.

All this crap about a marquee signing, they are meaningless, they certainly don't frighten the opposition.

How many of these big-money buys would you class as a success?

Big Money Transfers

  • Paul Pogba (Manchester United) - £94.5m from Juventus in 2016
  • Mesut Özil (Arsenal) - £42.3m from Real Madrid in 2013
  • Alexis Sánchez (Manchester United) - £30.6m from Arsenal in 2018
  • Harry Maguire (Manchester United) - £78.3m from Leicester City in 2019
  • Ousmane Dembélé (Barcelona) - £112.5m from Borussia Dortmund in 2017
  • Gonzalo Higuaín (Juventus) - £81m from Napoli in 2016
  • Nicolas Pépé (Arsenal) - £72 from Lille in 2019
  • Álvaro Morata (Chelsea) - £59.4m from Real Madrid in 2017
  • Christian Pulisic (Chelsea) - £57.6m from Borussia Dortmund in 2019

The assumption that every player improves a squad is false, it merely changes a squad, whether it is a success remains to be seen. Given that there are so many big-money failures, doing your research properly before you spend is paramount and the amateurish way football goes about that in this day and age is laughable.

If you are spending tens of millions then reducing the percentage of failure by accessing all possible information is common sense.

Given the minimal cost involved, do you take professional advice about the mentality of a player and thus have a better idea how he will react in given situations or do you take the advice of an amateur who has just chatted to family, friends and coaches?

Tottenham shoed again against Southampton the need for a striker with several opportunities to score that were squandered with poor finishing and once again poor decision making and poor execution around the box.

That game should have been won easily before Serge Aurier though he was Pele deep inside our own half when he should have just cleared the ball.

It is that lack of mentality you need to know about.

Yes, he produces crosses but he produces error after error that lead to goals and dangerous situations for us. Why give them a needless free kick in the dying moments of a game? Mentality does that.

Right onto transfer talk.

Christian Eriksen is booked in for a medical on Monday for Inter, Lo Celso is looking like he is going to be a better player than the Dane.

The CEO (Chief Executive Officer) of Inter Giuseppe Marotta told the media:

"We are not hiding behind a finger, we have been negotiating with Tottenham for a long time. I am optimistic and I hope that it will be concluded as quickly as possible. I am confident that it will, can solve already in the next few days "

PSG offered Eriksen more money but he chose to go to the more competitive league in Italy where the Nerazzurri are regaining some of their former status under Antonio Conte.

On Friday evening and Saturday evening there were dinners with the Nerazzurri's managing director, Beppe Marotta present together with the two intermediaries who are handling the Eriksen deal, Frank Trimboli and Paulo Busardò.

The Italian club's lawyer, Angelo Capellini was also present. An agreement with Tottenham was reached during the day during meetings at Viale della Liberazione. Now the paperwork and only the official announcement await.

That resulted in Eriksen's withdrawal from the Southampton fixture, hence why you didn't see him involved in the squad, despite travelling.

The two intermediaries, Trimboli, working for Spurs and Busardò arrived at Inter after they indicated they were prepared to raise their offer to Daniel Levy's asking price.

Szymon Pacanowski, the agent of Polish striker Krzysztof Piątek, has held further talks with Rossoneri officials at Casa Milan over his clients' future.

The Italian club are insistent they will only sell, not a loan and only for €30m (£25.29m). If they don't get a suitable offer they will wait for the summer and review the situation again.

Piątek does not want to be a backup to Ibrahimovich and is, therefore, seeking an exit so as to not jeopardize his place in the Polish team for the UEFA Euro 2020.
