Son Performance Video, Improvements Required

There you go, no sooner do I point out one law for attackers and another for defenders (link below) and it happens.

The ball hits Sanchez arm in our last home game and his goal was ruled out, even though it was a total accident.

The against Burnley Spurs have a free-kick that Son takes and it hits the Burnley player flush on the arm, giving Burnley an advantage and it is not a penalty.

One rule for attackers, one rule for defenders. It is plain wrong, it is corrupt. It is legalised cheating for defenders.

Also in the first half, I have talked about our finishing in the last third, plus Dele Alli needing to improve his game in that last third.

Dele was through again, slowed down and didn't decide what to do allowing the defender to get back. A shot or a pass and we would have scored another. Son was guilty of the same thing, Aurier was picking either wrong passes or poorly played passes.

It is an area we need to work on, our decision making is not always the best.

You win things and improve by looking at what you do not do well and improve on it, but you also look at what you do do well and improve on that too.

A 5-0 win will help our goal difference massively and a clean sheet will help us in the future, but one game doesn't cure our ills. We are moving back in the right direction but not a time to rest on what we are doing, we should always strive for more.

A quiet game for Dele Alli, just the one assist!

Kane back on the score sheet after 240 seconds and I was pleased to see him score something other than a yap-in. He took both his goals superbly and reminded everyone he is not just a striker inside the box with a superb all-round display that saw him assist Sissoko for the fifth.

As a defensive midfielder Sissoko stops us playing with his positional play, but further forward, now the mental barrier has gone with his first goal than another come along and he hit the post.

Harry Kane in the Premier League for Tottenham:
  • 193 Appearances
  • 134 Goals
  • 20 Assists
  • 8 Hat-Tricks
  • W112 D39 L42

Son is doing what Son does, but even he added a Maradona type goal, running some 90 yards with the ball and simply running through what seemed like the entire Burnley team.

I advocated Dier playing and he is starting to get back into the swing of things. This was his most assured performance to date. He gives us an aerial presence in front of the back four and allows them to stay defending rather than being pulled out of position by coming foir a header. That simple adjustment makes us a more secure defending unit.

Serge Aurier is now starting to show some consistency. I suggested before the season started that this, his third year, could be his best at Tottenham as statistically, that is when new signings hit their peak.

His crossing still needs plenty of work, it is a bit hit and miss, but when he gets it right they are very effective.

We can see under Jose Mourinho that his attacking duties are important and defending comes second, not news to regular readers.

Harry Winks will need to continue to develop his game and perhaps develop into the role he played for England, rather than the out and out defensive midfielder he has been to date.

Tanguy Ndombélé missed the game with a groin injury and is still adjusting to the Premier League but he has a lazy way about him and needs to improve his positional play. He doesn't overly rush to get back goalside when he is passed but does have an eye for a forward pass.

He can cut a defence and can play balls that get us moving up the pitch although too many go astray, completing more successfully must be a target.

Davinson Sanchez is still giving the ball away with some sloppy passing. He seems to pass the ball assuming his intended recipient is running forward, but when they aren't, his passes are along way from the player.

He has to immediately revert to a defensive mindset with an on-running opposition player picking up the ball, usually in our half. Something that needs work, we must not give the ball away cheaply in our own half.

Christian Eriksen does not want to sign a new contract and thus is sitting on the bench. He'll probably play against Bayern Munich as it is a dead game and it gives us the chance to rest a couple of players, Harry Kane we know to be one of those who won't be playing.
