Spurs no nearer to Isco than before

Spurs no nearer to Isco than before

Tottenham Hotspur Blog News (THBN) has reported Tottenham discussions with Real Madrid way ahead of the regular press and indeed between the two transfer windows (Winter and Summer) made it clear our stance over Christian Eriksen.

That was that we wanted Isco as part of the deal and as an alternative, Marco Asensio. Isco is now 27 (28 next April) while Asensio, who is out for the whole season with a cruciate ligament injury, is 23 (24 next January).

News is emerging from Spain via El Desmarques (picked up by The Sun) that Spurs are once again trying to get Isco in January with Eriksen going the other way. This is not new news.

Regardless of what Eriksen says in the press, he is not committed to Spurs and as such, it is a physical impossibility for him to give his absolute best, his subconscious simply doesn't allow that, his subconscious holds something back.

Our future is not his future, he has no investment in it so it doesn't matter to him, it's not going to affect him. He is simply running down his contract because Real Madrid and Juventus have clearly both told him he'll get a fat signing on fee and wages.

The fact Tottenham have turned him into a star appears to be immaterial to him. He has been excellent for us, there is no denying that but he struggles to make a difference in the big games, indeed he nearly lost us the tie against Man City in the Champions League and that wasn't the first time he has made mistakes late in big games.

Zidane isn't a huge Eriksen fan and neither is World Cup winner Lothar Matthaus who belives while being a quality player he is too slow.

"Eriksen is a fine technician, a typical No 10. But he’s too slow, and Niko Kovac likes fast players.
"For me, Eriksen is not the kind of player who makes all the difference at the highest level, so concentrate on the transfer of Kai Havertz next summer, and you still have Philippe Coutinho, who plays well as a 10."
Italian star midfielder for many a year, Andres Pirlo commented during Italian TV coverage of the Champions League Final, that Christian Eriksen was hiding and he knows a thing or two about midfield play and the role of a playmaker.

Target Isco has struggled for game time under Zinidine Zidane. First time around because his style does not suit the style Real Madrid play under the French boss. Second time around Isco is struggling for game time under the Frenchman again.

Modric and Kroos are now injured so he may be forced to start Isco for the next few games with alternatives running out but he is a bit-part squad player, not a regular first-team starter.

Personally, I would think Bayern Munich or Juventus are favourites to land him, not Tottenham, if he decided to leave Real Madrid or was forced out. They can both guarantee him Champions League football and trophies, being in what are basically one-team leagues.

He keeps moaning about playing time, makes noises about leaving but never actually does and it seems to me, has never had any intention of leaving Real Madrid. We can talk, but I doubt whether we are any nearer signing him than we have been before.
