At the first-ever  'Awards For Asia' which was organised by the Asian Sportswriters Union AIPS Tottenham's 27-year-old (28 next July) South Korean forward Son Heung-min was awarded Best Male Athlete.

Tottenham were, of course, delighted that South Korea's victory in the Asian Games 2018 earned him exemption from mandatory military service.

He has recently on the Asian Games with South Korea and played an important part in reaching the UEFA Champions League Final with Spurs, having also qualified for the competition once again this season.

He also helped South Korea eliminate Germany from the 2018 World Cup in Russia becoming the first Asian team to beat them.

"Son is an amazing football player and we are delighted he has been selected as the first winner of the Asian Awards" said Korean Sports Press Union President Jung Hee Don.
